What are the best retro visual novels or dating sims?
>>10881460The only one I really know of is Tokimeki Memorial. There's also Galaxy Fraulein Yuna I think, which is more adventure/VN than dating sim. Surely there's plenty more on the Japanese computers, PC Engine, PC-FX, Saturn, etc. but I don't know how many have been translated into English
>>10881460Paradise Heights 1 and 2. 3 had scat so is bad.
>>10881460>retro visual novelsWhere do you draw the line between VN and adventure game? If you're more open to the latter then Snatcher is a quintessential pick
Doukyuusei 1 & 2
First three Ace Attorney games are god tier, very much recommended
>>10881460YU NO. Music alone is worth it.
>>10881945Ace Attorney does betray its VN origins at times.
>>10881460sentimental graffiti is the first one I ever learned about
>>10881460
bible black
>>10882326Nice. Saeki best girl.
>>10881460i recently found the yarudora series on PS, they also ported it to PSP. It's only in japanese though. I played the fan translation of double cast and it was pretty accurate, couldn't spot mistakes. Quite kino desu
>>10882109It's definitely a crossbreed, but if I had to pick one I'd label the Ace Attorney games as adventure games. At least the original trilogy.
>>10882326Which one has the best cock?
>>10881665Snatcher is an adventure gamePoliceniggs is a VN (not a game)
>>10883373--- me ---
>>10881460subahibi's retro enough for this board. so that.
>>10883373Alfred Chicken
>>10881460Any dating sims that aren't visual novels?
>>10882290Never heard of it before, but it doesn't look like there's any fan translation so I'm not surprised.>>10883410I thought the shooting segments in Policenauts were more annoying.
>>10885110Azure Dreams, Thousand Arms, Sakura Wars. It depends how you define not visual novels though. I gave them in the order they are lightest on text.
>>10885571I learned about it on /a/ because of course it has an ova :^) it's not very good though the games canon is big gay so it's not surprising the sequel failed.
>>10881460Saya no Uta is /vr/ now so that
>>10885110>>10886226
The Sims
>>10886714>It depends how you define not visual novels thoughI don't mind if it has a lot of text but I want there to be regular gameplay segments, at least 50% of total playtime.I'll check the ones you've listed.>>10886935Everytime I play this, I end up not marrying anyone because my farm takes priority, lol.
>>10881460Clannad is my favorite. I think a lot of people forget that it's retro.>>10881665>Where do you draw the line between VN and adventure game?Visual novel is a western term that refers to a few different genres. So there is no difference between visual novels and adventure games, as adventure games fall under the visual novel umbrella.Of course, the word visual novel was actually an official branding by one developer so if you were to focus on genre names based on what the Japanese call them than there are only 6 visual novels.
>>10888007>my farm takes prioritysigma male
>>10882290i preferred the e-hentai
>>10882319Soulless art
>>10889653It's not soulless at all, you're just gay.
>>10889718but they look like they have no soul
>>10882319soul for ants
>>10885110yeah but they're all in japanese
>>10891760You can list them anyway.I'll be glad.
>>10881665They are all ADV or SLGs though?

>>10892846oh shit sorry most of them are not retro...
>>10892846>>10892849I appreciate it
you can get married in dragon quest games supposedly japanese salary men would get into heated arguments in bars over which girl was best, nera or bianca
>>10892846Most of these are VNs dumbo.
Morenatsu. Specifically the initial build from November of 2007 so that it's /vr/ approved.
>>10894776really? hmm I guess I have my genre wrong then? I mean most of the games I posted have gameplay.
>>10892846>DōkyūseiHey something I always wondered was why do some of these dating sims have official demakes for the super famicom? tokimemo has one too. I can understand meme ports like gameboy for the portability but stuff like the famicom? It's weird.
>>10897606For the same reason PS1 got many (censored) ports: popular systems with big userbase
>>10897616Yeah a lot of eroge gets turned into a dating sim due to censors on console that's also weird to think about. Like a porno with the porn removed but the story left in. Weird to think about.
With pic related recently translated, 2 of the 4 Yarudora games are now in English.Has anyone played these games? What do you think of them?I've seen how unusually high qualty these games are but also how intense they are, especially as they have many bad endings.
>>10881460Not sure if 2007 counts as retro, but my all time favorite "old" VN is pic related, it's one of those old visual novels that actually feel like games rather than novels, due to sheer number of branching paths and unpredictable results, it's kinda amazing how many routes they managed to pull out from simple plot of "group of serial killers try to murder a girl", from normal slasher horror developments, to like three variations of our heroine turning out to be the real apex predator all along and going postal on the killers, from direct mortal kombat shit, to home alone style massacre, to player having ability to straight up miss the killers by accident and go do something else entirely instead, it's honestly amazing how much they managed to cram into that story (84 endings) and sad that VNs moved on from that style of storytelling.Only other game I know of that's like that kamaitachi, which had like 3 remakes, I only played latest one and it got mindblowingly creative with it's routes as well.
>>10898150>Not sure if 2007 counts as retroIt is an enhanced port of a Super Famicom game so allowed.
>>10897606>DōkyūseiBased. Yui is MAI WAIFU!
>>10897641I love Maria!
Desire if you like Netorare
>>10900316>ntrpeople break game discs over that stuff
>>10901406Cuckyuusei
>>10901406>>10901432Anons stop being selfish, her body her choice because (You) don't own her.
>>10901406>>10902475I think of this every time I imagine what kind of people play dating games regularly. Even for someone like me, a loser who has little confidence talking to women, these types seem a bit more hopeless. Maybe I should feel bad for them, but to be honest, only disgust permeates the image of them in my mind.
>>10901406>>10902475LMAO
>>10902475T/N: 火球星 - lit: fireball planet is a homonym of kakyuusei.
>>10902776I didn't notice it kek
>>10902505You won't believe me and I would be posting off topic if I told you I have no trouble with women and play them. It isn't really any weirder than being a woman into bodice-ripper novels and you wouldn't assume a girl into that has trouble with men. You do need to be weird to play them but not necessarily an autistic shut in. Some people just like romance.
>>10903651yeah but I think he's referring to people who have an unhealthy obsession with them
>>10904171He admitted he's a loser who can't talk to women so it sounds like he just made up an image of people he can feel superior to regardless. Also considering the death threats / doxxing / etc, modern devs get for bugs or nerfing characters in online FPS games or whatever, a broken CD and politely-worded letter expressing dissatisfaction is pretty well-composed. Paying $80 USD or so for a sequel to 8 year old wish-fulfillment romance game to be reunited with your waifu only to have the developers troll you with their cuck fetish should understandably upset people.
>>10904295Anon if you think that conduct is "well composed" you need help.
>>10904295What is written in the letter next to the broken disc?
>>10904418It's zoomed out and the left side of the text is cut off so it's hard to read but the language throughout is all very fluffed up with formal business-speak. Something to the effect of "I speak highly of your company less and less...", "...the following is my reason for returning the product", something about the virginity of Saimon Tamaki, then I can't read the rest without a decent image.
>>10904463>returning the productWhat? He returned the broken disc to the company? He didn't ask for his money back, did he?
>>10904491Yeah, the letter is addressed to the company.Reading the end a little closer, he asks them to handle an enclosed item which was damaged during his last play and the last sentence directly says the letter isn't a demand for a replacement or refund.
>>10904520I never play Cuckyuusei series but I love Doukyuusei series. If he was angry because one of the girls is not a virgin, there are non virgins in Doukyuusei series too. I never heard anyone was angry like that.
>>10904295>Paying $80 USD or so for a sequel to 8 year old wish-fulfillment romance game to be reunited with your waifu only to have the developers troll you with their cuck fetishNo matter how angry I would be if that happened to me, I can't not laugh at it happening to someone else.
>>10881460Nocturnal illusions will never be beaten. Seasons of Sakura is overall the goat
>>10904531He's not angry because she's not a virgin he's angry because in order to get her route you have to stalk her and her boyfriend and see them date each other while you watch like a cuck. I think he even fingers her on a bench and you just watch. She brakes up with her boyfriend and picks you in the end I think but that kind of simp shit is mega lame. But I also respect the devs for trolling the boring normies who pick the main girl over the side girls. Normies get what they deserve.
>>10905395Holy shit! This is the first time I heard about it. I only heard that Tamaki screams her ex bf's name when she has sex with the main character.
Sayonara wo Oshiete deserves to be mentioned imo, I loved ithttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvOeTX0iQTkMoon. by Tactics (proto Key, Jun Maeda's team) is ok, tooI really like some titles that have already been recommended itt >Yu No>Clannad>Bible BlackAlso, if Muv Luv is considered retro, it's an obvious classic that's not to be missedFor ren'ai games/dating sim stuff, True Love is nice and playable on asenheim project. Pretty close to the original tokimeko in terms of stat management, but with less bullshit to deal with. I still have to try To Heart 2, it's available in English and considered a good, influential game. The Dungeon Travelers spinoffs are amazing, so I'm confident it'll at least be a nice read
>>10904418you can find some info in a thread on vndb: https://vndb.org/t5928i say it's very japanese to send such a polite letter with a broken disc with it.
>>10885110I hate that comic so much.
>>10907260>The Dungeon Travelers spinoffs are amazingThe one that actually is a spin off of To Heart 2 has the worst characters. Or maybe you are expected to already know them before you play it but I found them all pretty annoying.
>>10907312sounds more like he's coping by acting polite it's obvious he snapped the disc in a fit of rage
>>10909212Some Japanese are like that. They speak/write politely but they also give hints that they are angry at you.
>>10901406>>10902475>>10907312im more impressed at how clean the cut is
>>10909306Is it cut perfectly in half?
>>10909306samurai rage forded mirrion times.
>>10908140That's probably because most of them are written to aggressively pry themselves into the life of an MC that tries everything in his power to avoid girls for 0 reason. Basically every problem with TH2 can be traced back to how shitty the MC is, one of the worst in the medium.
Has anyone managed to play this VN? It's a Psychological Thriller story but despite having a fan translation for years, no one has actually talked about this despite having.>High Production Values that puts most VN to shame as it's animated rather than using sprite stills and CG backgrounds>Uses popular and well-known seiyuus at the time.>It's scary as hell.
>>10910364no sex
>>10902505I actually think disk letter thing is pretty funny, while an actual hopeless loser who has little confidence would probably do nothing.
>>10881665All VNs are called adventure games in japan. VN is a western term.
>>10910630unless it's and eroge or galge
