Anyone else fatigued about modern discussion? This is centered on retro games but I guess it can be applied to anything as it seems to be a general phenomenon:We no longer talk about the thing itself (in this case, video games), but about meta shit surrounding them.People will start or stop liking a certain game depending on which perceived group of people also like that game and what not, like we no longer can talk about fighting games without talking about the FGC and in fact that's most of what the discussion revolves around. Most video games nowadays are now tied to which eceleb made a viral video about it.There's no real substantial discussion, it's all meta commentary. And it doesn't seem like it's healing anytime soon, if anything it seems we're falling into a void full of post-ironic layers to the point who knows if 10 years from now people will even be able to be aware if they like or dislike something in a genuine way. What do you think about discussing retro games in 2025? Is it still genuine for you?
>>12031306Pic related is my end goal of game collecting
>>12031306everyone is retarded and insincere about the games i like so it's more important to point out how retarded everyone is
holy shit, the formatting of your post is actual fucking cancer, it literally hurts my eyes to look at.next time you want to post something on here you should just not even waste your time. go fuck your mother instead

>>12031326What's wrong about the formatting?
>>12031306this website has a bizarre obsession with other online communities. there is nary another place on the internet that seethes over everything from reddit to twitter to youtube and beyond. it's extremely exhausting.
>>12031363It's more vocal here (and in a way it's understandable) but it really happens everywhere.People online end up doing meta-discussion consisting of 90% ad-honinem , 5% irony, 4% brainrot and maybe 1% actual topic. It's anonymous here but on social media people never discuss anything, they just check the person's profile and find something to make fun of them of.
>>12031374>it really happens everywhere.no it really doesn't. the majority of threads on this website are filled with the word "reddit" being used in a derogatory manner. a majority of reddit threads are not using the word "4chan"
>>12031330you're really gonna diss my boi the angry nintendo nerd like that>>12031352I was kidding. It just sucks and looks ugly, and i'll fuck your mother for you
shit thread
>>12031306>There's no real substantial discussion, it's all meta commentary.4chan is full of anti social, terminally online people, so..Nothing to do with the "modern" scapegoat, just the company you keep
>>12031306It's not a modern thing.>People will start or stop liking a certain game depending on which perceived group of people also like that game and what notYes, it's stupid. Just don't waste your time caring about it, as there's nothing you can do to cure people's thirst for validation from online strangers based on the most asinine things such as what their taste in video games "says" about them.>like we no longer can talk about fighting games without talking about the FGC and in fact that's most of what the discussion revolves around.Fighting games and online games in general however are exceptions because the online userbase (or "community") heavily influences how much enjoyment can people derive from them, even if the games have single player modes. That said, I get what you mean if you're referring to the people who spend more time discussing the community than playing the games. It's kind of a necessary evil though given fighting games are a niche genre with continued development costs in the form of DLCs (necessary to keep their novelty and thus interest going for the majority of players) so their publishers absolutely need the casual players, and hype and things like celebrity workship attracts a lot of them.>Most video games nowadays are now tied to which eceleb made a viral video about itThat's because casual players generally don't go out of their way to seek new releases or look for themselves for games they might have missed, and instead outsource those tasks to youtubers/streamers.>There's no real substantial discussion, it's all meta commentaryThat depends on who you CHOOSE to talk or discuss video games with. Nobody is forcing you to interact with the people you're complaining about. If you ignore them it's as if they didn't exist.>What do you think about discussing retro games in 2025? Is it still genuine for you?Of course. Just talk about the games and disregard those not interested in them.
>Guys, let's discuss retro... so... modern gaming, amirite????
