>download no-intro set>random italian, german, etc versions wasting space>third-world pirate games no one gives a shit about>fucktons of beta versions>shit like mini and virtual console dumps that are completely useless outside of a few casesWhy hasn't anyone made a sensible rom pack yet? Imagine the space you'd save having only the essentials: USA/JPN retail releases only. There has to be a better way.

could someone explain to me the phenomenon of zoomers downloading gigabytes of games they will never run?
>>12196708are you really too stupid to grasp the concept of convenience
Interestingly, over the last few days, I've been creating ROM collections for each console that interests me. I download one version of each game and generally ignore pirated games, although the NES and GBC have some good ones. I've also watched videos showcasing all the games for each console to help me choose unfamiliar ones that might interest me. Unfortunately, I don't have time to play right now.
>>12196708>gigabytesAnon....
I'm setting up an emulation handheld for a gift and Tiny Best Set was pretty good at having one copy of each notable game https://lewdev.github.io/apps/tiny-best-set-list/
>>12196708As a zoomer, I do it because I know these things don't last forever and any day these ROMs could become harder to find and store, so I get a full collection now so I don't have to depend on them being easy to find in the future, in case bigger companies that hate emulation, like Nintedo, don't ruin it for me as I decide to play something, only to realize I didn't go grab a ROM when it was easy to do so.
>>12196683There's actually some European roms worth checking out. They fit exclusive games from Japanese developers that weren't released elsewhere (not even in Japan!) like Alex Kidd in Shinobi World, and oddities like their version of Contra are a curiosity worth checking out just for the bizarreness of it. And if you get into computers, there's a lot of stuff that only runs properly on PAL systems (especially for C64). Yes a lot of European roms are absolute garbage, but they need to be curated it's not as simple as deleting anything PAL.>save spaceIt's not really enough to bother with it. I have complete rom sets for every cartridge-based retro platform on my PC and the entire collection takes up less than the space required by a modern game. You could throw it all on a USB drive or an SD card and call it a day. You only need to start worrying about space when you get into CD-based consoles.>>12196708ROM sites can go down at literally any time because they're not legal, so it's good to have it on hand in case the sites go down. Besides, they're digital and take up basically no space on a hard drive.
>>12196846>they're digital and take up basically no space on a hard drivePre-PSX era don't take up anything, but then it goes up drastically. PS2 rom set is almost 18TBs.
>>12196851>PS2 set is 18TByes but 17TB of that is pure garbage so its time to start curating
>>12196851What >>12196857 said.As I said in my post: you don't need to start curating until you get to CD-based consoles. From that point you should eliminate European games entirely, and most North American games also. Keep all of the Japanese ones.
>>12196851>>12196857There's maybe, maybe, two TBs of PS2 games worth collecting. That's being quite generous. You don't need every year of Madden or other sports games, or the same games from different regions. There's only a few 2GB games worth having, most of the best PS2 games are sub 1 gig. I try to only collect games I have played and enjoyed and a few games that I heard good things about but missed out on when I first got it. Most Gundam games are total shit but I will still play them.
>>12196706>menstruation
>>12196995There's also games that were better on on other platforms.
>>12196846>It's not really enough to bother with it.It is when considering cd based consoles
>ctrl+f>type all the PAL territories and other shit you don't want>ctrl+a>deletewow just fixed your romset and you don't have to complain anymore
>download complete romset>filter it according to a dat filewhoa that was hard>b-but I don't want to waste megabytes on games I'm not going to playdon't care, it's better to just distribute a complete set and a 1kb dat file than having 50 billion custom romsets floating around
Do none of you niggers know what 1g1r is? Is this bait?
>>12196683Keep the games with ! and delete the pal ones and then realize later that I deleted Mr Nutz.
>>12197424Do you have to use that word?
>>12197454My ancestors weren't slaves and suffered through him crow just for some nigger to tell me I can't use that word. Especially a nigger that doesn't know what 1g1r is.
This is a non issue
>>12197463I just think you could be getting your points across without usage of that word. That's all I'm saying.
>>12197475I have most slurs filtered not cause they're offensive, but cause they're almost exclusively found on worthless posts
curating your collection is more fun, convienent to access and far less soulless than downloading whole sets. I mean jesus fuck absolutely no one actually plays more than 10% of a consoles library at most. just download the games you actually want, retards. plus who the hell wants to scroll past a fucklong list of shovelware everytime they want to boot something up?
Imagine being such an entitled brat that you have to complain that other people did all the work and delivered everything to you on a silver platter, but nooooo, I guess they should have cattered to (You)r needs instead since you're such a Special person. P.S: "Special" is what we call retards when we don't want to hurt their feefees
>>12197449But it was released on SNES in North America and that's apparently the best version?
>>12197475Where do you niggers even come from?
>>12196846>>12196781>in case the sites go downthat makes sense, thank you.
>>12196946>From that point you should eliminate European games entirelyNot really, there are some games with bug fixes or improvements, and if you are in PAL land they may even have optimizations that make them better on account of running in higher detail. From the top of my head, Soul Calibur 3 had the "delete your entire memory cart" bugs fixed for the PAL release making it the definitive PS2 version, Keio Flying Squadron 2 only had an english release in Europe, Gradius V ran in full screen and proper speed in the PAL release, so did a great many first party Saturn games like Panzer Dragon 2 and Virtua Fighter 2. Some Genesis games also ran with a larger screen in Europe, like Streets of Rage 2 and Strider.
>>12197527It’s more soulful to play the same handful of games over and over and never explore the rest of a given library? I’d have never discovered half of my favorite games if I did that.
>download a full set of roms>it's filled with every rom from the set>go screech about this to random anons on 4chanwhy?
give me 5 games worth playing from this
Niggers don't know about Jdownloader and regular expressions
>>12198818what are you, a nerd, lol
>>12196683You either be a normie and go for the tiny set or you go the pro route and build your library from the ground up. Only the biggest retards download the whole sets if they're not datahoarders/archivists.
