WASD for moving, and maybe arrow keys for turning maybe? A small minority of people like playing keyboard only, but it you're to mouse and even analog sticks, then a gamepad setup would still give you the same thing but with better ergos and comfort (DPad for movement and shoulder buttons for turning).

Scuba Steve and co were being dicks because it's basically a really well disguised keen map (which they couldn't tell) and the mapper eventually fucked off from Doomworld with the thread being hidden along with others at the mapper's request.

Apparently it kept being brought up in the wider issue of cliquey bullying on that shitty forum, and it sounds like the the staff quietly cleaned the thread up and then made it public again to try and look less like a bunch of shits who look the other way for their buddies.

tl;dr Doomworld being Doomworld
>>
Some Emerald City got recommended in the previous thread to some anon. It was on my list as well so I started playing it.
Just finished map 8 and boy, am I tired as hell. Took me over an hour to get all the secrets and it also bugged on me and I couldn't get the last 8 kills. What a bitch of a map. Way too long.
>>
>>12224230
>Belot
I initially was an apologist for Steve because communicating progression properly is very important, but then I actually played the map and if it were any more obvious it would have had a video showing you exactly what to do.
The only quibbles I could find with it were that the statues don't react to being hit (they have Keen health, so they can survive a few whacks, which could trick people into thinking they assumed wrong) and they're all brown so they blend into the background. Easily solvable by a shake animation for being whacked and perhaps a subtle bright map, but hardly crippling.
Also the Arms and Armor words blend into the status bar, but nobody cares about that.
>>
>>12224424
Yeah I tried it when it showed up in the thread before really knowing about the fuss and it seemed pretty obvious you had to do something to them so I went down the list of usual interactions till one broke, then I knew what the objective was.

I don't think it's the best wad ever but I can see why it's got it's fans, it didn't feel like yet another Doom but fiddled with a little wad.

>The constant excuse of 'a bad contract for Blood Fresh Supply that only gave them one or two patches'
Ignoring that Kaiser shit the bed with reverse-engineering and Nightdive trying to twist it into "reverse is bad, source code good" narrative.
>'we have to rebuy Blood Refreshed Supply for Nightdive to fix Blood'
If they really wanted to make things right, Refreshed would've been a console exclusive with Fresh Supply getting fixes from the first half of its development before Nightdive got the source code.
>The cope is eternal especially that Hendricks warned the community well in advanced with Doomworld and Nightdive discords shooting down any and all critiques as bad faith attacks.
What's more funny is that none of Nightdive devs even tried to test his claims (aside from Edward, but that cunt will argue with anyone). Probably because of the extras he gave them though.

Ive heard some people say its not the best maps ever but its fun. I also like that you can use the freedoom monsters on vanilla doom maps like the opps all tech bases if you load it up with freedoom. Its gonna load those assets but if you load btsx it'll load doom monsters. Is there any way to play freedoom with doom monsters?? I know they released the freedoom 4th episode with doom monsters but im kinda enjoying using the freedoom assets at the moment so I probably won't do this. Maybe later but its fun to switch back and forth
>>

Watch him fire back with some dumb shit like 'hurrdurr ur a shill horf dorf.'
>>
>>12225270
>I know they released the freedoom 4th episode with doom monsters
Other way around, Ralphis and RottKing donated the use of Double Impact for FreeDoom to use as its episode 4. In one way, that's quite generous, because that's a very good Doom 1 episode, but on another, it feels a bit cheaty because I think it's better if FreeDoom had all original levels.

It's kinda how I don't like having those Demon Eclipse assets in there. Yeah, they're placeholder and they're okayed for the use, and they're good, but they are very recognizable assets which look very distinct, and they don't really fit with the rest of the stuff.
There's stuff I like about FreeDoom, but there's stuff I don't, and they seem to struggle with actually advancing the project.
>>
>>12225270
I remember reading somewhere that ND were beginning Atari to buy them. Can't find it now but if that is true the whole thing is absolutely their fault
>>
>>12225270
>Is there any way to play freedoom with doom monsters??
You'd have to pull all the sprites out of doom2.wad into a pwad, and load it on top of freedoom.wad. There's no dehacked or any fiddly shit to worry about though.
>>
>>12224718
FYI neither of those nightdive devs are managers or have a clue what their bosses will allow. They're both speculating. Maybe they'll get 5 patches, maybe 0. Who the fuck knows?
>>
>>12225304
Wait that might not even work if some of the freedoom sprites have rotations the doom2 ones don't. I forget if that's actually the case though.

>>
>>12225309
Okay so delete everything between S_START and S_END in freedoom.wad then extract everything between S_START and S_END in doom2.wad into a pwad. I guess? I don't have enough dopamine to try it right now.
>>
>>12225309
>>12225320
You just delete all the monster sprites and sounds in Freedoom and load it was a wad for whichever Doom the phase is for.
>>
>>12225313
>uhhh i read some unsubstantiated thing somewhere that i'm going to choose to believe is true so it's all ND's fault (even though it's fucking impossible for ND to have the control over the things i seethe at them for)
i swear the people who seethe over this dev have a total combined IQ of 15. this is why reddit is a wholly better place for these discussions. they understand the basics of the gaming industry, who has control over what, and aren't seething over discord screenshot compilations that mean jack shit.

>g-go back
don't worry, i have several reddit tabs opened up next to my 4chan ones. that make you seethe, bitchboy?
>>
Manlet time.
>>
>>12225330
No because you're loading Freedoom as an IWAD. So then you have to load a PWAD like BTSX that already has a full set of monster sprites. If you delete the sprites from the IWAD they have to come from somewhere.

>none of those are ND's fault you gargantuan retard.
It is Nightdive's fault. They messed up Fresh Supply with bad reverse-engineering and then weren't in a hurry to negotiate more patches with nuAtari (proven by Nightdive dev). With Refreshed, they worked with Warner Bros since day one for console money. Source code only appeared halfway in development, according to Kaiser in Atari Podcast.
Recently, there was a EGS article that confirms the Refreshed Supply part.

Doom 64 also has Hell Knights, and uses them more often. It also gives you quite a lot of rockets, and the SSG and Chaingun are actually a little faster, so they're less bothersome to fight.

But yes, memory constraints and cartridge space constraints made for a bottleneck on how many monsters they could have.

a mix of both? The guns certainly didn't feel as fun as in most other games of the time and enemies were spongy. However I endured it up to Water Temple area, thats when I started to hate level design too, the player movement is abysmally terrible

To be fair, the usual ones are just easier to make. I've been scratching my head about showing some stuff hidden in the depths of idgames I've played and enjoyed, but with GZ moving forward it's a bit of a hassle to track down specific versions. I admit I sometimes get caught in the trap of showing what I know will get attention, even though pretty much anything Doom-related I upload is basically guaranteed to do that. Kinda hate when that happens.

>How is it so far?
It's interesting, has an entire class/money/shop/inventory system complete with charms lifted straight from Diablo 2, seems to suffer from damage type immunity stuff scaling with your level so the further you get, the more you seem to need to have coverage of the various damage types.
>Is it actually locked to Zandro?
Throws up errors on GZ/UZDoom, might possibly be fixable but half the time i've had that it's been stuff looking for some Zandronum-specific functions.
>>
>>12226494
I've beaten Blood before. Tough game for sure, but I like the way that it's tough.
My issue with Dumpsterdive is that they're charging fucking money for an update to their existing product, you gormless wanker, a product they didn't even goddamn finish to begin with, and we have no idea if they're even going to unfuck everything for good with their supposed allotted single update.

Even Kaiser admits that buying this update isn't actually worth it, which is like the only respectable honesty in any of this. No doubt he caught fucking hell for actually saying that.
>>
>>12227181
Hell yeah!
>>
>>12227283
You do know that actual developers on Nightdive like Kaiser don't make the business side decisions. The corpos that do those aren't the ones from the community and do not interact it with it. The ones who don't even play games to begin with, but instead spend their free time fucking kids and other shit the rich people do. People here seem to usually confuse the working class mappers and programmers with the suits. Developers get their basic monthly salary and not any extra. They can't decide to use their work time on free patches that are not bought.

Just didn't like the forced depiction of masculinity as being bearded up dudes where as I was always clean shaven. Later I found out about guys with weak chins and jawlines preferring beards to hide it so that might have been another factor in my annoyance with the trend.

I'm just thinking he might have similar art things I had at the time.
>>
>>12227425
Well thanks but that's hardly valuable for Doom community, grandmotherfucker.
>>
>>12227417
Never. I think it is another Mordeth. Let me explain.
When Mordeth E1 came out it was very advanced. It did shit with vanilla that no-one thought possible. (Bear in mind it came out 10 months before anyone had even seen the game source code.)
But Mordeth E2+ got stuck in development and the rest of the world caught up. What Lahout had was no longer special. So he had to revamp it until it he felt it was leaps and bounds ahead of everything else, again. Since this is impossible, it's got stuck in development hell, unable to ever live up to its own author's standards for himself.
I think BTSX is the same. It was highly advanced when it came out. It did stuff with vanilla no-one thought was possible. But the rest of the world has now caught up and overtaken it. There's no way E3 will have the same wow factor as the original. But Sarahfortium has too much ego to release it without that huge-technical-leap-forward of the first two episodes. The community has moved on. It will never be released because it cannot possibly ever be good enough in the eyes of its creator.

>I think he just likes Signalis
Oh, I've never heard of this. So it's just a reference I don't get. Fair enough.
>>
>>12227320
I like Signalis, more specifically its Replikas since they remind of Tsutomu Nihei's character designs and I'm a big fan of Blame! (if you couldn't already tell from Eraser, Doomed Proxy and my general fondness for concrete hellscapes). You can just ask if I'm a dude if you really want to know, but I think you already know the answer. I suppose I'm a weeb by technicality, it's been years since I watched an anime, a few months since I read a manga and generally don't engage with weeb culture past listening to music made by Japanese people.
The day I'm a furry, you have my express permission to put a shotgun's muzzle into my mouth and shoot until you run out of ammo.

I'm gonna be swapping that avatar sooner or later, it doesn't fit me anymore and I've grown to dislike the sort of attention it gathers.

To be fair, there's still one group that cares enough about vanilla to make BTSX, and it's the group making BTSX.
Maybe Arsinikk may release something.

Mordeth E2 is at least no more in development hell now than the source port it's switched to.

He said that it's not worth it "if you don't mind inaccuracies in Fresh Supply"... while also lying about Refreshed Supply being "made from scratch". Later , after Hendricks266 said what was actually up, other Nightdive devs and Kaiser were more truthful about it.

It's not so much that it's vanilla, it's getting that wow factor, the sense that your project is so far above the state of the art that it stands out from everyone else's.

It's truly crazy how nuAtari gaslighted Kaiser into hating Build Engine to a point where he decided to do sloppy reverse-engineering for Fresh Supply.
Edward getting raped for revealing that Fresh Supply wasn't being updated because Nightdive and nuAtari didn't bother coordinating was too messed up.
After that, they kidnapped Stephen Kick, tortured him and threatened to starve every Nightdive dev to death just so they would work with WB on a 'new" standalone Blood re-release. These bastards even broke his ankles because he got hands on source code when initial Fresh Supply overhauling was done in around 50%.

>Are those actual 3D?

Yeah, these guys are 3d with polygonal models and everything, they got that "psx platformer look" don't they?

> What year is this?
1996, rather early, also it's from Origin Systems which i don't think they were having a very swell time at that particular moment.

>How's the combat?
Didn't go that far, pretty much only played up to what you see here, everything feels pretty barebones tho, which makes sense.

tcrf says the following:

>Transland is a game made by Origin Systems employees to help prepare them for making 3D games. While certainly playable, it's very rough around the edges (to the point of having its intro told entirely in storyboards) and any plans to expand the game further were shelved due to other projects taking up time. As such, the game was quietly posted on the company's website.

>Same question, how's the actual gameplay and combat?
1996, made by SCi Games, not a top of the line UK dev house.
Pre-rendered weapons, but the enemies are polygonal and so are many of the objects here.

As for the combat, i'm not gonna sugarcoat it, it feels pretty ass.

Time to Kill is an average Tomb Raider clone that hasn't aged amazingly well but it has its moments.

Honestly the only significant drawback is the music is on the generic side and probably a better fit could be made but the autosaves are implemented perfectly, boss battles are great etc.

They typically do an alright job with games like Turok too, but every now and then as is the case with Refreshed Supply and Blade Runner they fuck up hard.

In Blade Runner's case it's because they had no option to upscale the game besides using AI so it looks like shit, but honestly it's easily forgivable compared to the cynical cashgrab Refreshed Supply looks to be. Publisher's fault or not.

To the extent that it becomes a vanilla compatible wad for doom 2
>>
>>12229872
It's not "AI hating troons", it's literally everybody else on the GZDoom dev team except Graf.

And the big issue is that AI-made code is incompatible with the GZDoom GPL license. So Graf was literally violating the core principle of the project and that pissed everybody off. This was on top of a long chain of Graf being a goddamn retard for years like you said yourself, so it was a straw that broke the camel's back. And the AI code was shit too, it apparently didn't even compile.

And they're not 'pretending GZDoom was bad/slow" because UZDoom is literally GZDoom without Graf at the helm. Like it's literally exact same code. All the people who used to make GZDoom except Graf now make UZDoom.

Me too, but there still should be an option to go switch to unaltered version in the re-release itself.
>>12229305
>How much does that really matter?
It's everything for them. Nightdive & nuAtari didn't care about updating Fresh Supply because they were busy making more remasters that also released on consoles. Devs even say that Refreshed is a thing only for the consoles.

>How's the game itself?
Refreshed Supply is objectively better than Fresh Supply in terms of accuracy, although there are weird things like some audio triggers not working, introduced new map bugs, some enemies using the wrong death sound, etc.
Multiplayer is currently broken across PC and consoles.
Kaiser will apparently (see >>12229196) fix it but who knows.
All of these bugs did not exist in the original source code.
>Also something about the skybox?
Skybox is currently fucked and not in sync with the viewport. The re-remaster feels rushed, best to wait to see if it'll be fixed or abandoned like Fresh Supply.
>>
>>12230207
it does, though
provide objective facts, and I will, in fact, fuck my face against your non-existent wife's breasts
doom 64 port is GREAT (I think there were a couple issues like censored medkit crosses and some other thing - both fixable with a patch)
that tomb raider thing, I heard is pretty good (Is it nightdive?)
powerslave is good
system shock remasted is good
Nightdive consistently provides palatable/good ports - you got anything to say to that instead of autistic contrarian screeching?
I normally use source ports, but when nightdive makes an actually good port, I switch to it

>How's the new Blood release?
It's fixed version of Fresh Supply sold separately.
>Does it come with remastered cutscenes like in the trailer?
Yes. Can't switch to original cutscenes though.
>Why are reviews mixed?
Because of underlying greed behind this project. Some bugs are there, but largely it's due to Fresh Supply.
Discount part is shady too. The way it was done made it a better deal for someone to buy both versions of Blood if they had none prior: you would've paid WB less, while nuAtari and Nightdive got more. Of course, no discount now and FS itself is delisted.

Just pirate it.

>It's not shit, right?
It has some odd changes here and there, but it's not bad.
>Better than source ports?
Sorta. Quake 2 ports kinda fanned out in different directions and nothing set a clear path for singleplayer stuff. The re-release filled the void there more or less.
>Heard it got a new DLC - worth playing?
The new expansion is pretty good, but a mixed bag. Play the original expansions first.

The TR remaster was good (had some absolutely fucked up lighting at launch, but from what I saw they fixed it, or at least most of it), but the fact they still found a place to shove in their politics is why I will never buy their remasters.

Nta, but the black/white thinking is retarded and childish. They have done shitty ports and shitty business decisions, but you'd know there's actually good stuff there and there if you actually play retro shooters.

Currently the best ports for these games are the Nightdive ports

How does the Dark Forces nightdive remake play? I remember playing the ms dos or whatever version recently. Had to...do some realy weird fuckery to assign controls. I think you also coudn't aim with your mouse, but for some reason, you could aim up and down with your keyboard. Overall, it was pretty meh- also, I unironically got lost on some dark station/city. Did complete it. Honesty felt mediocre after doom, duke, shadow warrior, especially blood
Did they make it better? Is the port good?
>>
>>12230428
In before suspiciously positive reply
>>
>>12230428
Pretty sure there's a sourceport somewhere. I remember seeing Nightdive did something to fuck up the cutscenes in Dark Forces (I think using some AI animation interpolation), and it looked like turbo dogshit.
>>
>>12230428
You could probably just grab The Force Engine and have a similar and "less upscaled art" experience. It's a solid port.
>>
what's the difference between DBP and DBK? and where can I find DBK projects?
>>
>>12230397
So, change the space into a plus or not?
I'll bake a little later on.
>>
>>12230472
My suggestion is to replace the space with a plus, and retain the quotes. In other words, the third form, in post >>12230375 . Thank you for your consideration.
>>
>>12230464
There's a DBK now? Doomer Boards Klassic? Doomer Boards: Kvlt? Doomer Boards : Kunny?
Or is like a reverse Brutal Doom? Doom, Brutal: Kill/Karnage/Kombat?

That said, is there like a tier list somewhere which ranks all the DBPs by which are the best and most enjoyable? I would outright take DB's own opinions/votes on this, they seem like they'd be reasonable honest about it. Probably.
>>
>>12230474
And that would slightly expand the scope in the archive search, while also making the link readily clickable on mobile devices?
Sounds good to me.
>>
>>12230478
If I recall correctly it stands for doomerboardskrew
As I understood it they were a few doomer boards contributors who for some reason fell out with the administration and quit the forum en masse. Yet for some reason they kept the group name.
>>
>>12230482
It wouldn't expand the search. I think we agreed getting rid of the quotes returned false positives (threads which had "doom" and "thread" in their opening posts, but which aren't doom generals)
>>
>>12230478
>now
First one was released on 2021. It's Digital Bards Krew, but the name's intentionally looking like spin-off of DBPs. It's community project series led by Big Ol Billy. He started his own series, because of some drama that I really don't know or care about. DBKs are really good though and you should play them. There's not a lot of them.
>>
>>12230478
>That said, is there like a tier list somewhere which ranks all the DBPs by which are the best and most enjoyable?
How would one even go about rating that? There's almost 80 of them by now and sure they're often shorter and all but that's still a lot of wads, I don't know how many people are there that actually played every single one of them. I myself play them a lot and I still haven't played a quarter of them, probably.
Not only that but people play very differently from each other. Pistol start, freelook, jumping...
>>
>>12230574
I think a simple "I played this and liked it" sort of list would do, personally. Maybe split them into groups and review every 10 of them.

I'd write a couple of lines about the ones I've played if someone decides to organise this stuff.
Maybe a large spreadsheet with all of them and anons rate them from 0 to 10, you feed all the ratings and it spits out the average. This sounds like my autism speaking.

If you have Fresh Supply you can copy and replace the movie files in Refreshed Supply. You can also rename the Atari, NightDive, and Kex, movie files to skip them entirely. Still, I'd probably just use NotBlood unless you really want Steam achievements.

>How does the Dark Forces nightdive remake play?
It's okay, but not really worth it. New graphics and cinematics are just ain't that good. Maybe look into Remaster if it starts getting +70% discount. I would say it's not worth it for current price and discounts even for achievements and I'm saying that as achievement junkie.
Just pick original and use The Force Engine.

I don't know. It's been while since I've played Turok 3 and I played it for single player. The experience was actually fun unlike with n64 emulator. Turok 3 has always been my favorite Turok, but I never liked the fact that it was only for n64.
