How long does it take for a Console to be considered Retro? the PS3 and Wii are turning 20 this year so for me they already count as Retro for me how many more years have to pass for it to be officially recognized as such? 10 more years?
>>12313765You can still discuss 7th gen on /v/. /vr/ does not need to be polluted with Wii shovelware and Dark Souls threads.
>>12313769You can still discuss all gens on /v/. /vr/ does not need to be polluted with threads about any games ever.
>>12313765I will never consider anything made after 1999 retro. But that's me. But what's retro for you might depend on your age.
>>12313765They don't really feel nor play "retro".....maybe with the Bethesda shit as they're already felt like busted ancient shit when they launched lol
>>12313765When the mods arbitrarily decide to change the rules.
>>12313765>>12313769This is why we need a /v2k/ for 5th-7th gen games. Yes, 5th gen should not be on /vr/ because these consoles have built-in 3D accelerators and we're all playing basically the same games today as in the late 90's.Just look at this image: which game do you think is the odd one out? If you answered the NES game on the left, well, according to /vr/'s rules you are wrong. The fact is that 3D LITERALLY added a whole new dimension to games and it is (again, literally) mathematically impossible for there ever to be such a huge change in what games can be. The dividing line between old and new is pre-3D acceleration and post-3D acceleration.PS1 is not retro. 5th gen discussion wasn't even allowed when this board was created, but piling 5th and 6th gen discussion on top of what should have been a space for actual old school gaming has just caused too many issues. We need a /v2k/ to fix this:>Gen X gamers and Halo zoomers wouldn't have to compete for the same catalog>we'd finally have a way to discuss 7th gen without going on the fast-archiving shithole that is /v/>/v2k/ would align with actual backwards compatibility: 360 can play Xbox games, PS3 can play PS1 games, etc>people who are primarily interested in 3D games wouldn't have to deal with Auster or the Sega System spam>oldfags wouldn't have to deal with constant "pre-NES games aren't worth playing" threads>classic RPG fans won't have to deal with Personafags asking why these games don't have a lot of cutscenes>Genesisfags would never have to worry about Sonic's green eyes ever again>SNESfags would never have to worry about gaijin-developed Metroids ever again
>>12313765Retro is anything made pre-2001. 9/11 changed pop-culture.
>>12313793>shartmericaYou will never dictate the global culture.
>>12313765>Google "retro movies">"80s, some 90s, select few early 2000s picks"Get fucked OP, 2005 isn't retro
>>12313785>5th gen discussion wasn't even allowed when this board was createdFor only two days. Everyone who says this leaves that out for some reason.
>>12313808What's the point in moving the goalposts like that? The rules that were in effect for those two days should have remained in effect, moreover we need /v2k/.
>>12313796COPE
>>12313765Handhelds: up to GBA (2001)Consoles: up to PS1 (1994), but not N64 (1996)so 32 bits, no more.
>>12313785Nobody would want to moderate yet another fucking /v/ spinoff. /vr/ already evidently lost most of its janitors as it is.
>>12313803>I just googled retro movies>Borat and Jackass 2 are on there>Released same year as 360/ps3/wiilmfao, you just BTFO yourself, sweaty.
>>12313816>muttmerica zog copeno one cares cletus sanchez
For some reason Pitfall and Mario 64 are allowed to fit in the same retro category. But something like Final Fantasy XII and Final Fantasy XIII is an excessive discrepancy....
>>12313835Because /vr/ is a shithole. /v2k/ actually has demand.
>>12313773>80 year olds calling NES brand new>Only call Magnavox and Atari and similar retroIf your age mattered in this discussion, retro would be ps4 pro, kid
>>12313765why are you so adamant in killing this board? go away.
>>12313842/vr/ is already dead. Long live /v2k/!
>>12313838They really shouldn't have allowed gen 6. It utterly opened the floodgates.>>12313839Jannies quit because of the hack.
I have entered the thread and there will be no survivorsbam bam bam bam bam bam kaboom
>>12313803>>12313836Google search results are curated for individuals and proves nothing other than your own bias
I think the entire 4chan format needs to evolve. For example: within the main /video games/ category there should be a general category (/v/) and subcategories for 1st generation consoles, 2nd generation consoles, 3rd generation consoles... and so on.
Allowing the Wii, DS, and PSP would cause less damage than allowing 6th gen consoles did; I would even argue it wouldn't cause damage at all.
>>12313839/vr/ was made to be a slow board for anons to discuss games that would be otherwise pushed off /v/ because of how fast it moves. Wanting a fast /vr/ board misses the entire point.
>>12313861>/vr/ was made to be a slow boardAnd it shall return to one if 5th and 6th gen are moved to /v2k/.
boards.4chan.org/vr/1stgenboards.4chan.org/vr/2stgenboards.4chan.org/vr/3stgen...something like this
>>12313864boards.4chan.org/vr/1stgenboards.4chan.org/vr/2ndgenboards.4chan.org/vr/3rdgenfixed lol
>>12313857But then PC lards would seethe about "generations", so you'd need to break that down into half-decades.
>>12313765Gen7 will never be retro. It's not a matter of time passing, it's about different categories of games.
Tick tock uncs...
>>12313785Trvth nvke. Anybody who disagrees with this take is a faggot. This change would fix many of this boards problems.
>>12313796America does dictate culture to a large degree. You have to get over it. Your insecurity comes off as pathetic.
>>12313765Retro isn't defined by any length of time, it's defined by a state of being. The 7th generation is philosophically identical to games coming out today.Games today don't even look much better than how they looked on the 360/PS3 and they play identically.
>>12313765I want to discuss Wii games but I'm scared the people on /v/ will bully me. I can't talk to them like I can talk to you guys.
>>12313921You need to sneak that into a Wii homebrew emulation thread
>>12313921reddit.com/r/wii
>>12313803>>12313836>>12313853all i got were films and documentaries with "retro" in the title
>>12313919I never got this argument since you then you have retro throwbacks being eligible regardless of how old or new they are. Meanwhile modern feeling 6th gen games would also be cut off because some fuckers feel they’re too modern. What’s a board where Shovel Knight or Freedom Planet are allowed because they feels retro while COD4 and Oblivion are arbitrarily kicked out for vague reasons of modernity?
anything with hardware accelerated 3d is not retro and will never be retrofite me
>>123137657th gen will never be retro you fucking tranny, same with everything after it. you just want it to be retro so you can try and pretend that transcore garbage like cod or gears of war are actually "cool" or some shit and then spiritual boomers will just artificially inflate prices for everything
