Oh hey, this is cool of you to do.

These novels aren't like perfect or anything, but I do think they are fairly enjoyable overall, I remember ordering them as a teen in the 2000s because I had always been obsessed with Doom as a kid, I tempered my expectations because of what I'd heard, but I thought they were pretty damn alright actually and did not regret buying them.

I see you're numbering the thread, but it's probably gonna be easier to follow if you number the next thread as Chapter 03, or maybe just C#03 or so if you think it's too long. Anyway, thank you, I have a bit of nostalgia for these.
>>
Oh wait, maybe you're doing multiple chapters per thread. Hm. Maybe consider writing out the chapter number each time.
>>
I was only gonna read a chapter at first, but I forgot this was an exciting story.

The weapons in these novels are pretty weird from a practical perspective, and I could sperg a bit about them.
I'd start with the USMC using what seems like the 10x25mm Auto cartridge, which, sure, that'd work for sidearms, but best I recall, the unnamed pistols operated on some sort of gas piston, which would be really excessive and uneccessary for the application, and you can just make it work on cheaper and simpler short-recoil (for instance, the Glock 20 pistol is plain the regular Glock 17 design scaled up from 9mm Parabellum to 10mm Auto).

The second part is the "SIGCOW," which I believe stood for something like Standard Infantry Gas-operated Combat Weapon, which might be the name of the development program and trials for it, but probably not its designation, it'd get a boring designation like M5 or something.
It also uses the same 10mm as the pistol, and apparently even the magazines, which would be a very strange, out of place, and antiquated idea for a frontline infantry weapon, but which could make some sense for Military Police duty. That is, the guys guarding military bases, and who go arrest the orher soldiers if they're fighting or otherwise breaking base rules, or even the law (like someone gets found to have illegal drugs or stole a weapon).

The SIGCOW would probably actually work pretty well at indoor ranges, but be limited in practical range (and probably suck at penetrating body armor). Seemingly most of them are semi-auto only for some reason, while the later books bring up a full-auto one with a drum magazine.

I actually kinda like the weird weapons though, and since Doom was never really realistic, I think it's fine to take liberties.

OP here. This book has been received a lot better than the previous one (again, sorry about that) but I want to touch base with you guys, make sure I'm headed in the right direction.

I'll be done with this novel by Tuesday, and I had plans to start the second novel next Saturday and do all four books, but then I got worried that I might just burn everyone out before I'm done. So, I made a little poll, just to see what people want from me.

The plan was to do the whole book in one thread (it's about 220 pages, well within the image limit for /vr/) but the first one died so here we are. I'm taking a lot of cues from a Darren Shan book club that /lit/ had a while back, which includes only doing a few chapters per day - I posted an entire Sonic the Hedgehog novella back in early December in one go, and everyone told me afterwards that I should've spaced it out.

I was vaguely curious about the guns, but I'm no /k/rackhead so my knowledge is virtually nil. Thanks for getting technical about this stuff!

Fuck me, do I even wanna know what the book you posted before this one was?

Anyway, to answer your question... I dunno, you're probably fine. Maybe post something shorter inbetween the Doom novels as a palate cleanser, if you're so worried about people losing interest.
