when i think of ninja games i think of ryu (gaiden) and joe (shinobi) first. fighting game dudes come way later, since their genre just doesn't engage with actual ninja shenanigans well.

Hell even later really only Scorpion got katanas and some real ninja armor in DA, and by that point he was the only canon "ninja" It's fine because really all the cool ninja archetypes are entirely historically inaccurate, but they take it even another step away into just these masked super power guys

Running on water, shapeshifting, making clones, all stuff from Japanese folklore over the centuries. Down to the connections with frogs and handsigns(the latter of which stems from esoteric buddhism) Mortal Kombat is weird though since it was also heavily inspired by Chinese movies, but arguably ninja fiction is a form of wuxia anyway

So many annoying hazards and enemies that you need to chase down (probably because once you understand the systems you can combo things to death consistently) plus some truly awful bosses.
