Why did every platformer developer in the 90s have this uncontrollable urge to fill every game with retarded minigames, vehicles and sewer levels?
>>12379287blame rare and dk64.
>>12379287Because the run and jump formula has its limits and at some point you run out of ideas.
I don't need a 45 minute long video to tell me the vehicle levels in crash 3 suck ass
Advertising is against the rules and nobody likes furries.
>>12379287Look at it from the devs' perspective. They obviously play their own product a lot in the process of development and playtesting, but they're unlikely to develop an autistic fascination with it in the same way people like us are, satisfied with it across decades and excited at the prospect of sequels with the exact same gameplay, just in new levels. They're trying to keep up interest and attract new players, so after coming up with an entire new game's worth of ideas for #2, probably implementing many concepts conceived during the process of making #1 that had been tossed aside at the time due to deadlines or because they didn't think they could get them to work, they have to try to invent even more stuff that's interesting and engaging for #3. At that point the creative well is probably completely dry, so they're really scratching their heads for shit to include.
Crash 3 mini-games were better than Crash 2 mini-games.

Crash 3 is by far the best game of the classic trilogy and I had no idea that 'the vehicle levels all suck' was a common opinion at all.By all means, hate on the bi-plane levels all you want, but everything else was cool and added variety to the game just like the boar/polar bear/tiger levels, giving you more things that were interesting to run for time. I find the idea of hating the jetski levels particularly bizarre.
>>12380741The polar bear levels in 2 are better than all Crash 3 minigames. 3's tiger levels just feel like an easier watered down version of them. The jetpack levels are horrible, I'll give you that.
>>12379287Why did you set your language settings to Chinese before taking that screenshot
>>12380774What about the diving and motorcycle levels? Never liked those. Tiger levels are the only minigames I really enjoy. Jetski is okay, at least it controls fine.
I play Crash games for the platforming gameplay. Having to spend half the game in half-baked minigame levels ruined Crash 3 for me. No reason to bother with mediocre jetski levels when Wave Race exists, or with the motorcycle levels when nearly any actual racing game is far better.
>>12380753Such is 95% of YouTube vids, especially gaming related ones
>>12380839>No reason to bother with mediocre jetski levels when Wave Race existsYou're figuring out how to navigate moving obstacles in order to best smash boxes in under a given time, in levels that you move around freely rather than in a circuit. That's completely different.
I like them. I also like the spaceship levels in Ratchet and Clank 2. Faggot youtubers with wrong opinions will not be listened to.

>>12379287Plok is a great game, until you realize half the levels are spent inside shitty vehicles. That's why Miyamoto ultimately couldn't give his blessing to publish it as a first party.
