Lots of C64 games have been coming out in the past few years that almost look like Amiga games. Most are free, too. Or "pay whatever you want or nothing." And the non-free ones? Well, they're cracked, trained, and intro'd by the best. Some of the people in the scene have been doing it for over 40 years.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sELUtMnKkFs
C64 SMB source port using original assets and code where possible, but all graphics and sount routines were written from scratch for C64 obviously, but it still needs SuperCPU or some other form of turbo for smooth play:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLb0SDlvmfIC64 Game Gear Sonic, this one's excellent and runs without a hitch but it's not a port, it's all original code re-implementing the game, so it runs perfectly on a stock C64:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4CGwp4N9xgC64 Puzzle Bobble, port of the MVS version. This one also runs great on a stock C64:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_eqMTktsShAC64 Eye of the Beholder, with entirely new hand-drawn graphics for the C64 (not converted) which are faithful to the original in every possible way, this one doesn't need a faster CPU but requires a 16MB REU:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jojvXF6JlvEIn fact the C64 got more new exclusive games last month, than the Nintendo Switch, XBox Series series, and PS5 have *COMBINED* lel.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYU7bqXKdIs

Awesome post anon!I'm more of a speccyfag but I love seeing new microcomputer homebrews.
>>12863321Spectrum scene exists, but it's maybe got 1/100th the energy compared to C64 scene.
It's a bit old now, but I recommend the Metal Warrior quadrilogy. They're very polished action adventure games with an ongoing story centered around the main character Ian Smith. If you haven't played them yet I recommend starting with MW Ultra which retells the story of MW1. Think of it as a heavily upgraded first game in the series.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOFcboudOB0
Was Newcomer any good? I was waiting forever for some ultimate edition to come out and I sort of forgot about it.
>>12863630Yeah, I completely forgot about this game. There's like three versions - Newcomer, Newcomer Enhanced Edition and Newcomer Ultimate Edition. The last one has been in development for like a decade now, but from what I'm reading it's never going to be released because the authors lost the files for it. The game looks cool and ambitious.
>>12863648Ah, so that's why the ultimate edition was never released. Outside of the screenshots, I never could find any actual gameplay footage of it. Only the intro which was pretty cool.
>>12863687They were working on a version of Ultimate Edition for the PC in 2017 supposedly, but I guess that went nowhere. The C64 game is still listed on Protovision's website as a work in progress, so who really knows at this point. The C64 Ultimate Edition was supposed to address the issue with compatibility with NTSC machines, so I guess it isn't that different from the Enhanced Edition.
>>12863648>he last one has been in development for like a decade nowI remember reading a walkthrough for the original game in something like 1996 or 1997.

>>12863696>The C64 Ultimate Edition was supposed to address the issue with compatibility with NTSC machinesthey still haven't addressed the compatibility problems introduced at day one of manufacturing so it's unlikely any bugs / problems will be addressed in any other version unless it's a problem that breaks the machine and stops it from functioning. i've asked about it. bugs with emulation of various components are not considered high priority for them. i'm also told they did very little compatibility testing despite having the tools and software to do it. lol.

>>12863871>1MHz slog says raging lolcowlmao. z80 runs at 3-4mhz and is literally slower than a 6502 because z80 takes insane amount of clock cycles to execute similar instructions. this is why z80 runs at 3mhz or greater. here's the spec sheet:http://www.z80.info/z80time.txtanyway, this is a c64 thread. not a spam thread for losers and lolcows that make up schizo fantasies about computers and consoles you've never seen or owned and don't understand how they function
>>12863956Sure, sure, that's why Outrun-like racing games are so good on C64 and totally not a slide show eyesore. Because its powerful CPU has no problem doing math. >sperg accountingCSDb is a scene database that documents scene releases (not just game cracks), not game releases. Lemon64 is sorely lacking.GB64 lists 31695 titles. The search's year dropdown sucks (only goes to 2023), but it does include games released in 2026 (you can manually edit the year number in the link). Spectrum computing lists 33118, but seems much more complete when it comes to type-ins. This is with the ZX Spectrum machine type which should include all Spectrums.GB64 lists 356 games in 2025.Spectrum computing lists 261 games in 2025.Solved your spergument.
>>12864863You seem more reasonable and this is actually an interesting topic. If you pick only games spectrumcomputing lists 18273 entries currently. One problem with GB64 is that it lists duplicates (see picrel), it'd be interesting if you could list by unique entries. Spectrumcomputing also has that issue, but only when it comes rereleases in game packs.
>>12864880*comes to
>>12864880The various languages being counted seperately is my biggest gripe (though it is interesting for text adventures), as that seems to be the biggest inflator of the numbers. Okay, that's been added to the list (including some variants). You got me with that one, so it's currently 1 - 27 in my favour. Now I think the NES, or as I have recently taken to calling it the Family Computer, is the best system ever made. I find it objective fact that consoles and especially computers released prior to this are garbage that never amounted to anything nor have anything worth playing around with.
