Do you prefer gameplay-focused or story-focused JRPGs, /vrpg/?
>>3456671no.
>>3456671Nope. I prefer good games instead.
>>3456675Ape Escape Tournament - Pure KinoNeverwinter Nights - Pure LudoBaldur's Gate - Kino+Ludo
>>3456671Story. Obviosuly the gameplay still needs to be good, but if the story is as loose and goofy as ffv I'm just not as invested, no matter how great the mechanics are.
>>3456671>no skies of arcadia*drops your image in a flaming dumpster*
>>3456671Story obviously because the gameplay of Jrpgs is bad and shallow.
>>3456671Don't give a fuck what genre it is, gameplay should always come first. DQ and FF for example only got worse the more the focused on railroading the player for the sake of plot
>>3456671Those are all irredeemable garbage manufactured for easily impressed, unwashed retards. Jarpiggers are a walking display of dysgenics.
>>3456675how does it feel to still be latching on to a game from 1998 with nothing else in your entire genre to show for it lol
>>3456675>Real Tranny with PenisWorst genre of videogames ever
>>3456714Phantasy Star 4 is pretty good.
>>3456671I prefer porn-focused JRPGs. Porn is the only thing worthwhile thing in a JRPG, and even that only because western porn in RPGs is a freak horror show. An average JRPG has garbage robotic grindfest for a gameplay and an average JRPG story is 50 shades of cringe.
>>3456765>50 shades of cringeSounds like BG3's story
>>3456671A truly good JRPG has both good gameplay and a good story.
east vs west threads are p. shit, but it is strange that jrpgfags and normal rpgfags have to share the same board.
>>3456774i wanted a kino vs ludo thread i didn't ask for this shit. can we discuss kino vs ludo? thank you
>>3456671A good chunk of those aren't even JRPGs. TITS/FE are SRPGs, Ys Origin is an ARPG etc.
>>3456774True. Westrannies should go to /lgbt/ to discuss their slop.
>>3456671Gameplay + cute girls unless it's a monster taming game.
>>3456785>final fantasy tactics and 7 remake aren't jrpgs hurr durr
>>3456675Cringe
>>3456671I hate kinoI hate ludoI hate kino+ludoI like 1-2 games in each category of that image
>>3456675You could have at least posted 2...1 is half baked and the only interesting thing about the entire game is Sarevok's intricate plot.
>>3456782you can, you need to go to a passive media board though, /tv/ or /lit/ or /a/ or /co/ or something
This is actually a very good recommendation list, for once. Where do you bros would put FF7 and Nier: Automata?
>>3456671Paper Jam is bad.
>>3456671I'll never understand how people can say "FFV is gameplay-focused" when the game is as easy as it is. It's a mash A to win ATB RPG, ATB alone should preclude it from being on any "gameplay-focused" lists because of how garbage it is, but for some reason people are dazzled by a class-system that doesn't actually have any meaningful choices, or matter at all. Also, the story is quite substantial in the game, it's just less serious than the other Kitase FFs.
>>3456675but why didn't you post one
>>3457060Square Enix fans are the bethestards of jrpgs. You can instantly assume anyone who likes square enix games is completely retarded.
>>3456785if you think trails in the sky and fire emblem play anything remotely similar to one another you're on crack mate. It's not the same genre.
>>3457090Especially the front mission and saga fans
I find it difficult to get fully immersed in games that are mechanically generic. Like Earthbound for example. If I wanted a story I would read a book.
>>3457111Some games (e.g. OFF) are worth playing regardless thanks to their unique aesthetics, but in general I agree. I find it hard to get invested in anything that's too mechanically simplistic or does not provide a challenge.
>>3457056It doesn't matter that the story and setting is generic mandateslop, it still has the best gameplay of any Mario RPG.
>>3456671Trails games will never be anything but low budget garbage that is on the same level as Neptunia and Atelier.
>>3457271Name one other game series where events in one game actually matter five entries later with consistent continuity, and rewards players for putting dozens of hours into the games with the biggest storylines in gaming.
>>3457355Black Souls
>>3457271All true jrpg fans like trails. It's a litmus test to see if you really like the genre or not.
>>3457355You mean, name something with no story that just goes on and on and on? Grey's Anatomy, but that's a TV ''show'', not a game.>>3457361I would challenge you and say that Trails fans don't play anything else. So how can you be called a JRPG fan if you are limiting yourself to one seires?
>>3457365trails haters just want every game series to be like mega man battle network, where the player is treated like a baby, nothing that happens in one game gets referenced in the next and the writers actively hate veterans with a passion
>>3457361As a JRPG hater, I agree. I hate Trails and I also hate traditional JRPGs like Chrono Trigger and Dragon Quest. The only JRPGs I like are either heavily experimental or with heavy western influences (as funny as it is to say that, given that JRPGs were born from Ultima and Wizardry).
>>3457369>nothing that happens in one game gets referenced in the nextIsn't that, like...Ys?
>>3457355>game series where events in one game actually matter five entries later with consistent continuityMight and Magic
>>3457361Nope, it's entirely about whether or not you like bad anime. Like bad anime? You'll like Trails.
>>3457459I like bad anime and I don't like trails
>>3457470It's not the same thing if you actually understand that it's bad.
>>3456671there is nothing "ludo" or "kino" about garbage like xenoblade chronicles and ys 8
>>3457359yes keep listing games that don't even represent the genre
>>3456677>Ape Escapefinally, a good game mentioned on /vrpg/>>3456671I think a combination of both is best, but I only really give a shit about the story if the gameplay is fun enough to keep me engaged throughout the playthrough, so gameplay should be prioritise over story. But there's nothing kino about Persona 3
>>3457355>consistent continuityDidn't they forget that Kevin exists during a scene in Kuro where they showed all the Gralsritter and had to patch him in?
>>3457589poor bait
>>3456671This image is scarily accurate lmao
>>3456671Story
>>3457361This is the case, yes. It's the peak of JRPGs and it continues to ascend. Kondo-sama...I kneel
>>3456671story obviously. i have mostly outgrown the appeal of gameplay, there's a reason adults don't play with toys
>>3456671this distinction is a symptom of the fact that we are still in vidya's childhood, soon kino + ludo will become the norm
>>3457030nier is kinoludoff7 is not even in the list, unless its ff7r in which case ludo
>>3460338Nah, both NieR games would be just kino.
>>3456677>Neverwinter Nights - Pure LudoYou are insane if you believe this
>>3460807isn't it the gameplay-focused of the trio?
>>3456671smt4a is ludokino
>>3457355>Name one other game series where events in one game actually matter five entries laterWho really wants that? I want things to happen now, not five games later.
>>3462672ludocringekino, yes
>>3456671I love conquest, smt4a, conquest and dq9 so I guess im a pure ludo guy although I would argue pokemon black and white should be kino ludo
>>3460547Automata is 100% ludokinoGestalt is just kino
>>3456675B-B-B-B-BASED
>>3456789Jarpiggies have no room to talk in regards to "trannies".
Can someone explain what the fuck is kino and ludo?
>>3464402Buzzwords from outside vidya used by passive media addicted poseurs.
>>3464465>heh, look at me, i NEVER use words from imageboard culture, only NORMAL ENGLISH! I am so based and adult!
>>3465572lol OP mad
>>3464402Cinematic and game-related.
>>3464333>Automata is 100% ludokinolol, lmao even
>>3464345Remake's animations weird me out.It tries going for these outrageous or theatrical scenes and no one fucking emotes.
>>3456671When the gameplay is repetitive and the stories are forgettable, how can I choose? And is there a point playing this genre at all if the game doesn't do both to its utmost level of mediocrity? Their real strengths are the artwork and music.
>>3456671i'm glad that paper jam is finally getting the recognition it deserves!
>>3468360no it isn't
