The remake of this guy just game out, so we're having a DRPG thread.
Playing the second game>super fast combat when you're holding down X/A>autowalk, even across multiple maps>varied outdoor areas>race/gender/class specific portraits but you can change portraits to use other classes' I love it. I wish they kept the vancian magic system from the first game though.
>>3466857Literally bought a psp for this game because I was a big etrian odyssey fanBiggest we have Etrian Odyssey at home moment thankfully they released Elminage 1
Just beat EOU1 classic, after beating the post game I'm probably gonna play Potato Flowers next or Wizardry 1-3 SNES. Any good western DRPG recommendations that aren't tile-dancers? Nothing against them I'm just in the mood for stuff closer to Wizardry.
>>3466857I was just about to make a thread too, fun series. Probably should have used this pic instead. Its out on Steam, PS5, and the Switch
>>3466932Elminage Original is okay, my main problem with it is that its dungeons are too large and have too many pointless rooms. I'm finding the dungeons in CoH2 a lot more enjoyable so far.
>>3467234I don't mind big dungeons, it's fun to explore what I can't stand is the autistic alchemy system, it would be okay if it was sort of optional upgrades but if you want anything good you have to use that shit
>>3466946>Wizardry 1-3 SNES>SNESdon't do that, the campaigns arent even in order
>>3467250Which version should I play then?
>>3467240My problem with Elminage 1's dungeons is that they are intricate but feel somewhat procedurally generated and have next to no placed content. It takes a lot of busywork to explore every nook and cranny but there's little reward. With CoH2 I can see chests in the distance and try to find out how to reach them, or simply how to reach the other side of the dungeon to progress to the next region. That's another thing I like a lot about CoH2, it feels like Wizardry 6-8 / Grimoire where all the maps are connected together and you go to different regions on foot like it's an open world rather than just selecting them from a menu like in Elminage or Dungeon Travelers 2.
>>3467313the ps1 version
How are you supposed to use devils without destroying your party affinity? A party full of those blue gnomes? Also are idols good?
>>3467584Are those Japanese only?
anyone knows what those two stars mean right above the map's name? I'm guessing the first is for fully revealing the tiles, but I haven't gotten the second one
>>3466857How's the translation? I'll pick it up if it's not too fruity.
>>3469565The first star can't be for fully revealing tiles, I have it for maps where I still haven't explored lots of tiles. Maybe it's for when you've picked up all the chests? I also have a star for the "Forest's Treasure" map in Witch's Forest even though I've never visited it yet.
>>3469548yeah but there's an English option in the menus that translations stuff (outside of names)
>>3466857On the PC version, ss there an in-game option to switch text language, or do you need to do it through Steam?
>>3469920i don't see any language option on main menu, probably need to set it up on steam
https://youtu.be/Nb9XC26LGQk?si=3DtfO3YUtjjskwKGhttps://store.steampowered.com/app/2929540/Dragon_Ruins/Weren't one of you retards excited for this? Anyways, its out today.
>>3466905>Perma deathHow is this allowed?I keep hearing people recommending newcomers to start with CoH2 instead. Am I missing much if I skipped CoH1?
>>3472364Perma-death is just one of those Wizardry mechanics, in general CoH1 is just an anime reskin wizardry. >I keep hearing people recommending newcomers to start with CoH2 instead. It's an easier game with better difficulty curve, handmade dungeons (CoH1 uses randomgen), and plenty of QoL improvements. CoH1 can be rather brutal especially for those new to the genre while CoH2 is very beginner friendly.>Am I missing much if I skipped CoH1?Not really, the games are completely separate from each other.
>>3472308>Asset pack game from the devs who brought you asset pack gamehttps://store.steampowered.com/app/2395150/Demon_Lord_Reincarnation/
i think this might be bricked
>>3473036Be sure to make 3 of them good and 3 of them evil. Also put your Celestian, Halfling and Sprite on the front row.
>>3472371>in general CoH1 is just an anime reskin wizardry.please dont post retarded things about wizardry
>>3473126Nonono, he's right. The team that did the Wizardry Xth games in Japan split up and part of them ended making CoH1. Under the hood, CoH1 is nigh identical to Wizardry Xth2.
>>3473492>The team that did the Wizardry Xth games in JapanThats not wizardry.
>>3472371>Perma-death is just one of those Wizardry mechanicsThank god for the save function. Gonna save scum whenever I can. I got burnt real bad after losing my Samurai at lv8 with my best equipment for stepping on a invisible trap following a bad encounter.
So is CoH1 worth playing or should I just skip to 2?
>>3473505Do you like menu-ing? CoH2 offers many QoL improvements that cuts down all the slog.
>>3472308>>3472495>AI images with filter on topew
>>3473608>>AI imagesThey're from an asset pack that's been on sale for at least 8 years.
>>3473501Yeah, it's pretty forgiving due to save-scumming. Had similar experience with Labyrinth of Souls, though perma part of death was thankfully not a common occurrence. I do like the concept, but these games are not exactly built around it.
>>3467584what are their differences?
>play COHG2>no idea what i am doing>read some guides here and there>about classes and rerolls>realised it has perma death>and everything is expensive as hell>having fun either way>try grinding>somehow reached floor 2>see treasure chest>disarm using ranger>its poison gas trap>whole party get hit with poison>meh, it will go away on its own>it doesn't>whole party got wiped during battle>cant even escape>try to load previous save>the automatic save overwrite my manual save >WHICH IS AFTER my party got wipedWHO DESIGNED THIS SHIT
>>3475711You just described my first 2 hours with this kusoge. Do yourself a favor and roll yourself a sorc. Monsters in later dungeon (eg. Ancient Labyrinth) will be highly resistant to phys damage and will require light magic. Also they have teleport to fast travel between towns.
>>3473494It's more wizardry than 6-8
>>3475711That's... just how these games work. It's not an issue once you become accustomed to such things and take it slowly, learning to prepare for such adventures.
>Boss room with adjacent tiles with anti-magic and instant kill attributes>Need to find items for each of your party members because lol no levitation for you>Said items are limited to 1 per store across different townsHow is this allowed?
>>3475822Nope, you have no idea what the original games were trying to do.
>>3476751Certainly not letting you rest everywhere
>>3475822>>3477107lol, non-hub gameworlds really mindbroke japs
>>3477113Hub world =/= just rest everywhere and throw out of the window any need for resource management
>>3477132You get constantly attacked while resting in 7 and competing NPC parties are simulated, so the resource you manage is time, there's just no designated safe place to flee back to in those games.
>>3477157Sounds awful, no wonder it killed the series everywhere
>>3477165lol, you haven't even played it? Figures.
>>3477170I did and dropped it because of the awful aesthetics and not playing anything like real wizardry
>>3477172lol
>>3473036If you want to min-max then just take 6 Felpiers. They have balanced stat (except low luck which is the least important stat) with the highest total stat sum and high affinity with other Felpiers.
>>3466932I really liked Brandish. It's not really the same kind of dungeon crawler, but I just like to bring it up any chance I get and someone talks about PSP shit. Falcom or Xseed or whomever the fuck did a dick job at marketing that game. Which bites because I'd love nothing more than for them to have remade 2 and 3 the same way. PUT IT ON STEAM!
>>3479516i will play it on my vita just for you thanks anon!
>>3466857I think my biggest problem with CoH and CoH2 is that when paying them all I could think was that if I want a all in Wizardry clone I should just play Elminage instead. They weren't bad but had nothing interesting going on.
>>3479528Nice.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edmYw_HQhx8&list=PLzFTGYa_evXgTmZ8PRvllyzXeXSqOIKsp
Do we have any good info sources on 2? I started it and there's a lot of mechanics not explained. Is there a way to teach spells to any class or do they only get them at certain levels? Do classes that don't have magic really get nothing other than a few passives and one active skill or is there a way to expand their move list?
>>3483445Just reincarnate if you want to give magic to other classes, you get something like 24 class changes per character.
Are they finally going to re-release 3 (and maybe final, too) this time or is it just CoH 1 & 2 again like always?
Playing EO3, 30 hours in, on floor 8. How the hell do people finish this in 50 hours?
>>3466857Oh nice, I thought it would release frebruary at most so I forgot about it.Been playing Starcrawlers. Hacking makes way more money than regular missions and The Social Stage gives you a shit load of rep for little cost. Some of the puzzles are the big cringe though, since they demand you to move around the place to press on consoles.
Witch and Lilies goes on early access next weekhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKYNfVyvh1shttps://store.steampowered.com/app/2525810/Witch_and_Lilies/Relationship is the key of this game
>>3486222>romantic relationships between girlsThat's so gay.
>>3486222>early accessoh boy, it worked for Chrono Ark, but for a real, non-roguelike dungeon crawler I can't see how it's a good format
>>3486222>yuri
>>3466857Been playing the first game and have been loving it despite never messing with a DRPG before (one hour of EO1 years ago doesn't count, although I'm now more open to giving it a fairer shot). Currently having to go through the labyrinths and beating the bosses in those. Unlocked the arena not long ago too and it's a nice little cash grinder for when I'm running low, which I'm honestly surprised about not having any downsides whatsoever for dying because I was expecting something besides just adding to the death counter.
Playing the first game. Managed to reach Holdeah Range by passing through the Holdea Cave. No other options seem available to me from there. How do I reach other areas?
I dont play many DRPGs, but I'm gonna start EO4 as my first EO.What am I in for? Anything I should know before I go in?
>>3486222I've been looking forward to this one since last year when it was announced. I really hope the gameplay is good and character, as well as battlesystem are somewhat complex and fun. Best case its somewhere around EO, worst case its an experience slop. I could be accepting of latter depending on how good the yuri is. I am also a little reluctant about the relationship system. A party of five means that one girl will be left over. Should that be my genderbent self-insert i keep away from the other four and watch their romance from afar? How reliably can i control this system and how much is rng? I want as little as possible jealousy shit or worse, ntr, happen. Looking at the devs and the little webcomics about this game it seems to target the "overcome hardships with the power of yuri and your soulmate" theme. I want the four girls i choose to overcome hardships, yes, but keep their bond as pure and vanilla as possible. I want to watch them hold hands, be all flirty with each other, share a kiss here and there. Looks of despair as they see their loved one in a near-death situation that i, as my genderbent self-insert tactician dps support character, still somehow manage to turn around but still let them rescue each other to strengthen their yuribond. Become all hot and bothered hearing them moan at the inn at night and thus taking my leave when suddenly, the big-breasted innkeeper pins my loli gender-bent self-insert against the wall and makes out with me. Yes, if all this is possible it will be my personal goty. I hope EA is not a redflag by the end and the game has actual content.
>>3466857Damn, now I'll have to replay it.There was this brief period where I didn't play any video games at all and the thing that brough me back was RPGs on handhelds like the PSP and DS. This'll probably bring back a lot of memories from that time.
>>3488025least unhinged yurifag
>>3487971The monkeys are very friendly, run right up and pat them
Hey DRPG friends I need your help. Someone on /v/ posted this image in a "4 niggas in a row" thread and left without giving sauce. Anyone recognize this 15 niggas in a row game? It looks like a DRPG to me.
>>3488114Labyrinth of Refrain
>>3488114That's clearly labyrinth of refrain
>>3488121>>3488123Thank you very much. Time to go look up how 15 niggas in a row is.
>>3488114can you link the 4 niggas in a row thread?
>>3488025most based yurifag, I pretty much hope for the samealthough early access for a dungeon crawler seems very weird to me, it's not the kind of game where I want to be stopped halfway through with the game telling me "sorry the next floor/dungeon is not finished yet, fuck off and forget about the game and come back in a year"
>>3488564It was 2 weeks ago on /v/. There's probably been 60 more 4 niggas in a row threads since then. I basically gave up trying to figure out the game I was looking for until I saw this thread in the catalog.
>>3488213I liked it a lot. Great writing, great characters, plenty to work with for lorefags. Dungeons are great both to explore and for how alive they feel, which the sequel improves on the former but falls flat with the latter. Combat was kind of underwhelming to me but serviceable.
I just finished Cirnozardry, my first ever drpg and I loved it. Had to use a mapping tool, it was slow at first and I had to rely on a character that could show a bit of your surroundings, but after some days I felt confident enough to drop that one unit and eventually learnt to map the dungeons based on the blocks I could see. Could've used the walkthrough and save time but I just had too much fun picking all the icons and whatnot. Some of the fights were potentially quite punishing if you weren't geared well enough but there was always a workaround, it all boilled down to team comp and gearing. Take the very last boss for instance, very intense fight with tons of status ailments and AoE attacks and I just couldn't make much progress last night, but today I tried out a different strategy and to my surprise I beat it on my 1st try. Had my fair share of bullshit moments but the moment I could overcome those really hard fights I felt very satisfied. Now I want to try other drpgs. Considering I wasn't even aware of Wizardry before playing this game you can deduce how little I know about the genre. Any recomendations?
>>3488114It's honestly pretty mediocre, I don't recommend it.
I realized that I liked Mary skelter because it had a set cast of characters, are there more games like that ?
>>3489134A few. As for a set cast of cast that are also the party members, that kowloon game and saviors of sapphire wings are the only ones I know are about Games like strange journey have characters and story but they are never your party members
>>3483445Late but an anon posted the whole guide book on a /v/ thread a few weeks ago for CoH2 PSP. >>3488716i tried searching the archive and i couldnt find shit. what 4 niggas in a row games do you like? i want to play one. it's not traditinal but chrono ark has been fun and its 2-4 niggas in a row
>>3489379The majority of 4 niggas in a row threads are just idiots going back and forth over turn based combat vs action. Personally I like basically any turn based game. There's only a few I put down and won't pick back up. If you're asking about DRPGs I like Etrian and SMT because I'm a basic bitch.
I'm playing CoH2 and strangely kind of enjoying it despite how primitive combat is and a lot of mechanics in general. Like why am I not allowed to see the costs for the tension gauge skills? Why are all the spells each class gets hidden? Why can't I select which individual enemy to attack and only select the row? Why does the enemy box window show up right on top of the 2D illustrations instead of you know, just moving it above or below it? I'm assuming it all comes down to classic Wizardry influence autism but it makes me curious as to what 3 is like. I don't think it was ever translated so I guess I'll never know. I found the old CoH2 psp guide on gamefaqs so I know some information about what spells each class gets but I still wish there was more ways to build each character. Right now the only thing I know of is to learn the spells of one class then change jobs to the one you want to use. But each race is very restricted on what classes they can use so this is still very limited building. There is the penalty of cutting HP/MP in half but it seems like as long as I change classes at a high enough level, the level 1 unit's HP/MP will still be higher than what they original had at level 1 anyways. Also the RNG based stat gains and chance to lose stats annoys me.
>>3486222I remember seeing it as a shame that labyrinth of galleria let you establish very specific relationships between characters (rivals, childhood friends, princess and knight, lovers, etc.) only for it to not mean anything gameplay-wisethis could be good
>>3489134Dungeon Travelers series.I also prefer set cast of characters since I can't bother making units from its name to stat growth.
