Cover has just announced that they have begun experimenting with Unreal Engine in their 3D Lives and will unveil thier results during Holofest 6.If you think this will just be another Hololive 3D concert think again. Just when Nijisanji has released demonstrations of their brand new 3D studio, Hololive has once again left them to the dust.
I know the unreal engine they're using is probably some modern piecr of miracle hardware but all I could think about was the original quake game from the 90s for some reason.
NOOOO YOU CAN'T JUST INVEST IN VTUBING, YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO SPEND IT ON YACHTS AND SPORTS HORSES!!!
>hololive concerts will now have shader compilation lag and traversal stutterhow can nijikeks possibly compete lmao
>>88661451>using stuff to help out your sla... talents? bah!
>>88661212announcing it right when their stock is rising, cover is riding the wave.
>>88661212>unreal engine Top kek
>>88661472Alex what are you doing here
>>88661592Good for EPIC too, they need some good PR
>>88661212>use unreal engine for 3D>still uses their proprietary Live2D software?????
>>88661300Unreal is not a magic pill, still need talented people to make things look good.
>>88661212What have they been using for HoloEarth?
>>88661779Unity probably
>>88661212It does make some sense to use Unreal Engine, as it has a lot of features for film makers and live broadcasts.Biggest issue for Cover would be to make a decent anime/toon shader. Not impossible but needs people who know how to do it. (Either custom engine branch if you want the best results, or live with some limitations if you go via Materials or Post Processing)
>>88661212>Nijisanji has released demonstrations of their brand new 3D studiothey did?
>>88661993Yes, it was a mod of Paper Mario with so e organs as the cast
>>88661212unreal and unity can be configured to look exactly the same, the only difference is the performance and default settingsanyone who thinks otherwise is a retard who falls for epic's hype marketing
>>88661300>unreal>quake
Thread might be a shit post but it does have a bit of truth to it. If they aren't reinvesting to at least bridge the gap towards current modelling techniques they will all suffer eventually.
>>88661451>Holobronies say Holo invests into Vtubing>Holo actually doesn't pay their employees What did they mean by this?
>>88662892Subcontractors aren't employees retard-chama.
>>88662892>''Holobronies''>confuses employees with contractorsYeah, Nijikeks really are idiots, perfect marks for Riku's grift.
>>88662396It fucked me up, too, but I just chalked it up as bait.
>>88662892>anon doesn't know the difference between contractors and actual employees
>>88661212Girls und Panzer uses Unreal Engine for the tank scenes in the recent OVAs, this can do great results if the people doing it know what they are doing
>>88661212>announcing a project set to release in half a year and telling engineers to apply nowholoearth 2? see you in 5 years
>>88661212Not new, Codemiko did it as an indie, she did spend a pretty penny and had the technical know how to make it work, but she used a realistic model; I don't know how it would work on anime models, you can only improve details on anime characters so much.
>>88663800See Girls und Panzer
>>88661779Scratch
Tencent soon #1 stockholder of Cover corp.
>>88663831Maybe I should, it's been in my backlog for years. There is something i wish they would improve thou, clothes and limps clipping, it's not an easy thing to fix, we still have that problem in most modern games.
>>88661957They're a jp company so they probably made their own engine to keep all the rights, which ended up wasting too much time and money in development. Or at least that's what I think to make sense of why holoEarth is so deprived of any content and features that's already present among similar software/games alongside the long wait for updates that delivers little to no content.
>>88664142It’s about low cost for fabric sims. You can fix it with more math, but to do so in a live simulation as opposed to prebaked animations is really computationally intensive.
>>88664280You don't consider artificially limited digital items a form of content?
>>88661212so what exactly will UE do for them that they can't do now? is it just purely graphical fidelity or is there something more?
>>88663997Hope not, they’re smart investors. I’m gonna liquidate if they increase their positions in a fucking meme industry
>>88664586>>88664280HoloEarth is DOA, they should just kill the thing and use the funding on something more productive. They had vastly underestimated video game making, especially MMO. I don't even know what they were hoping to accomplish with it, but with how they've handled in game items, I suspect they originally planned it as a NFT project but backed out realizing how much bad press NFT brings and the hype was dying down.
>>88664910It needs to be an anime project. I like HoloWitches but Earth has much more promise in that regard
>>88664280Theyve been doing everything in Unity both concerts and HoloEarth
>>88664640Physics simulation is a big one, remember physics are expensive to compute, doubly so for live settings. Tools specifically for live performances etc are also included in UE now. Remember that whole movies have been directed and shot in it, so it's not lacking for tools when it comes to productions
There's already a Suisei concert in Unreal Engine, we know how it would look like.https://youtu.be/bb2TnCOWXrE?si=yKBKIX46JRbe53yh
>>88661212Imagine thinking Unreal Engine was something to brag about in 2024 KEKW. Shit is ancient history and looks like trash
>>88666059fr literally every indie WHO game is made in unreal, and they're always laggy and jank on stream when people play them
?
>>88665850>physics are expensive to compute1998 called, they want their toaster back>>88664640>so what exactly will UE do for themhundreds of big company media plugins from music and video production to stage tech hadware controllike controlling physical camera booms and lights from inside the game engine, controlling in-engine audio with real professional mixer boards.
Literally half of all games use Unreal engine, how is this an epic nijinigger own?
Arent they like obligated to show Unreal Engine's obnoxious splash screen at 100% volume at the start of the live if they start using that engine?
>>88672756No, that's just indie devs using the free version of the engine
>>88662396Unreal Tournament with the modern engine never ever by the way.
>>88673190Still mad about how UT4 was treated.
>>88661212>Cover has just announced that they have begun experimenting with Unreal Engine in their 3D Lives and will unveil thier results during Holofest 6.They have been hiring dozens of employees to develop HoloEarth in Unity but they will be making Hololive concerts in Unreal? That is a baffling management decision since they still use a proprietary system for their Live2D software. Considering that management couldn't even get a VRChat collab to work for 3 hours I am skeptical on them making their software more complex.
>>88672756>>88673025the splash screen is mandatory unless you contact them directly, but obviously for marketing reasons they still want the logo somewhere visible
>>88674389>proprietary system for their Live2D software>Unreal Engine comes with Apple AR kit integratedBest face tracker currently on the market, one could wonder why didn't they switch earlier
>>88666020ok that's quite an upgrade.
>>88675087fuck the face tracker I want them to finally get those fucking arms moving. I want more miko arm kino.
>>88661212>slopengine5 will make everything bettererThe fuck did they use so far anyway? Unity? If so thats some serious weaksauce https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_ErytGpScQ
>>88661619That year end medley had already really good racetraced reflections and global illumination. Looked really good, I wonder if they want this for realtime instead of baking the video for hours?>>88666020I don't like the look that much feels like the shading/lightning still needs tuning, looks like a plastic model trying to move. The medley had better shadinghttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SirMcRmSEB4
>>88664910Yep you could tell it's aimless by them adding a building and survival mechanics too far in development. It's like they just added it in since they saw it was cool with palworld but ended up looking like a copy pasted mechanic from other unity building games with no hint of originality.
>>88674389Probably they have decided to switch engines for HoloEarth because of some nothingburger limitation. Expect a 1 year delay for the engine switch + another year for underestimating the engine switch + 1 more for the feature creep they decide to add because "we're in unreal now!"
>>88663997looking forward to it
>>88661212>Unreal EngineIt's over, Unity chads. We lost.

>>88661212>not using Godot

>>88686061>liversSEAsters can't even shitpost
>>88661212I mean it makes sense that something you can use for free and is designed to be used for next gen cutting edge games would also be adaptable for having some dumb girls goof around on a 3d set with too and suddenly bring in a bunch of physics and shaders etc that cover seems to lack at the moment. I've seen a few JP twitters messing with unreal VR and it looks good, very very good. I bet people at cover noticed the same and thought "what are we doing pretending we're a VR software company still when this is out there waiting to be used" Though I think you actually do have to pay licensing etc if you make a certain amount of money with unreal, which cover undoubtedly would hit, but the license cost must be far far less than the salaries of hiring people to spend years coming up with something that'll be way behind in the end anyway. The only thing lost is pride.
>>88661212I assume it'll be mostly for effects and such, sounds exciting though.
>>88664910HoloEarth would make hundreds of millions of dollars if they added lootboxes and item tradingImagine an Unusual Gura Hoodie with orbiting shrimp effect
>>88693241They wanted to be unique instead with how lacking it is compared to other similar software and went for digital scarcity path for their microtransactions.
>>88661212I thought that was the basis of their 3D already
Still failing to see how using one of the most widely used 3D engines since 1998 is an epic Niji own
they just want to play with raytracing

>>88696477I'm sure Niji does too, which is why cover is about to pass them in stock value
>>88663800didn't suisei x midnight grand orchestra use UE4 for their first 3dlive?

>>88691855Is that a chuuba?
>>88692323Also, rightly or wrongly, Cover is clearly interested in making games, so just using Unreal across the board is a logical move. >>88666059 >>88666212Unreal looks bad because companies don't know how to optimize, and wouldn't do so even if they knew how: they take optimizations literally made specifically for Fortnite, cram those into the game, use the "optimizations" Unreal makes for lazy/cheap companies that are doing exactly that, and then ship. You *can* very much strip out the Fortnite optimizations though, and while that doesn't leave the engine with any major advantages beyond accessibility, there aren't really any major downsides either.
>>88661212>Just when Nijisanji has released demonstrations of their brand new 3D studio, Hololive has once again left them to the dust. They haven't even hired the engineers yet, you cock-gobbling retard.

>>88702382It only took this long because Cover was making long-term investments in their business, while Anycolor spent the past few years going full Leeroy Jenkins on pumping up the shareholder value. AC fucked around by spending nearly all their money keeping the stock price as high as possible, and now they're finding out that they'd been doing so at the expense of their ability to continue making money. Meanwhile Cover is being run by competent businessmen who know that the point of money is to buy stuff, and the company has been using some (not all!) of their money to buy stuff (including stuff that will help them continue making money) instead of just throwing all of the money onto the money pile.
