I really want to become a scientist in Neuroscience and also become good
at Medicine, but I can't find good scientific books about it for free (I have no
money). I discovered a place called "sci-hub" that somehow has that stuff,
but I heard it is illegal. Can someone come and we can talk about it?

Of course it's illegal to download textbooks that would normally cost money. In practice however nobody cares if you download a bunch of textbooks. If you wanna stay on the legal side, try visiting a college library. Don't know which country you're from but I'm in Germany and live near a large public university with library which you can freely visit as a guest (which I did a few times). If I were you I'd just download those books, something I did myself with a bunch college-level history books from Anna's Archive. If you're really paranoid use a VPN or something I dunno.

Have you looked in your local library?

scihub is illegal, because it is piracy. literally nobody will catch you or is looking to catch you though.

here are some other sites
https://libgen.is/
https://annas-archive.org/ (indexes libgen + scihub as well as some other sources)

I don't live near a library.

So, to is basically illegal only if they catch you somehow? I literally have no contact with anyone outside this forum, in what kind of situation could I be discovered?
>>
>>1457474
you will only be discovered if you share the content again on the internet (you're fine to share physically with dvds or usb drives or bluetooth file transfer), and even then it's extremely unlikely. if you only download the content, from websites (not through torrenting), there is quite literally 0 chance you will ever be caught or get in trouble, ever. 0%.

Thanks very much then, is good to see that people want to help me in becoming a neuroscientist.

Also, can I ask for a good PDF viewer? I have the adobe one, but I want one that is more, "private," to say in some way.

adobe acrobat will work fine, but you can also use a web browser or sumatra (https://www.sumatrapdfreader.org/download-free-pdf-viewer) or okular (https://okular.kde.org/download/)

Okay, thanks.

SumatraPDF

Thank you too.

Now, I will search for a private browser, is TOR good?
>>
>>1457498
tor is very good and offers a high level of privacy, but it's overkill if you're only downloading books. there's no harm in using it but you might find it a little slow when downloading larger files.

I tested it downloading a game of somewhat 300 megabytes and it was kinda slow.

libgen.is

calibre
pdf epub mobi and edit and convert

VPN optional and private window. never had my ISP get bent for going to libgen but they ding me instantly if I leave my VPN off for movie "rental".

You can travel to a library. Libraries also have buses that serve more remote areas.

Side question, OP, are you not enrolled in any university/college? It's cool that you want to learn but without a degree you'll never be allowed to practice medicine.
