disclaimer: I'm tech illiterate

I have some PDF files I want to "text-to-speech" but opening them in microsoft edge doesn't give me the option to "read aloud", like it does for most other things

I tried downloading a free version of adobe reader on PC but couldn't find the text-to-speech feature. I checked out some youtube tutorials and they DID have it. you have to go to where it says stuff like "file" and scroll over to "view", and it would be near the bottom. but on the adobe reader I was using, there wasn't even a "view" option. I asked some weird AI assistant about text-to-speech and it told me about other apps I could use, like it wasn't a base feature.

I also checked out some phone apps. most of them had awful reviews saying that it was a scam and to not even bother. I tried one with positive reviews but once you sign up: you get told you have 3 days for free and the subscription is like $160 for a year lmfao

does anyone know how to get text-to-speech for PDF files?
if not, I think I can convert them to other files, but does anyone know which files will let me text-to-speech (preferably on microsoft edge)?

unfortunately, this seems like an app to be able to speak voice commands to the PC; not have the PC read things aloud to you
