I came across this article a couple months ago, briefly read it, and made the mistake of assuming it was accurate,
https://archive.is/bXUCM
I offhandedly mentioned it to someone I know that was planning to move to Spain, and they took what I said as accurate at face value, too, which made me realize my mistake and re-asses it.

For starters, it's on Medium, which is already sketchy, and the 'author' is a guy with a photo that looks AI to me, who has a different article saying how he used ChatGPT for his job for the past 6 months,
https://medium.com/@henry-becker.de/about
https://archive.is/8MoVG
Strangely, the article Spain article says it was originally published on the website henry-becker.de, and even though the author goes by "Alex Carter" on Medium, the url for his profile is under "@henry-becker.de"
Looking at the article on his site, it isn't by "Alex Carter," but by "H.B."
https://henry-becker.de/the-hidden-truth-about-american-expats-in-spain-why-3-out-of-4-return-home/
The illustrative image for the article is also almost certainly AI in my opinion, especially based on the text.
I can't find fucking anything about this henry-becker site anywhere else, and most importantly he doesn't cite any data for either article.

While I want second opinions on the article itself (although when I lay it out like this it's pretty clear it's untrustworthy), my question big question is; is anybody able to find actual reliable information about the return rate of American expats from Spain? This isn't my field, and I dunno where to start.

OP again.
Okay, so the entire article is copy pasted from this article from a month earlier,
https://medium.com/@globexs/why-73-of-american-expats-leave-spain-within-2-years-industry-data-you-wont-like-f1ae2b7cc5ac
It was actually written by Globexs, a relocation company. It's almost certainly an advert for themselves.

I'm pretty embarrassed ngl.

Do they bind books backwards in Spain, or why is the cover where the back should be? And all of the text is out of focus, because A.I. is notoriously bad at it.

I mean, yeah, the text was the reason it looked AI to me.
