I don't know if its fungal, viral or bacterial. What I know is that it is caused by parasites. Even oncologists will admit that to their patients as they say it is caused by an infection. If you keep to a good hygiene your chances of catching it will be slim to nil. At least for lymphoma. Perhaps the more aggressive types of cancer are caused by a more exotic species of parasites in which you could unfortunately catch (in a similar way to Lyme disease).

Most importantly make sure your living space is properly clean and sanitized. Much of these people who have parasites (such as acne) live in squalor. I would even say to buy an anti-vandal mattress (PVC 450GSM) as you can easily clean them.

A contributing factor is that a lot of people wash themselves with inefficient soap or shower soap. That stuff is alright if your body is already clean but it will not give it a deep clean which is needed. Antiseptic soap is an essential to basic hygiene. I find Carbolic soap is to be the best. It even kills Malassezia (from my own experience using it to sanitize my scalp). If you choose to wash your scalp with it make sure to use coconut oil shampoo afterwards to moisturize it or there will be blue residue from the Carbolic soap left on your scalp that will remain for two or three days. If not coconut oil then some other natural moisturizing shampoo.

Not to mention sanitizing your body from the inside is also a must. Carvacrol is great for that but be careful with the dosage if you are a beginner. I noticed that fennel seed oil is great for sanitising your throat to cleanse a white tongue and bad breath.
