Hello! I'd like to start a new general where we read through the Vampire Hunter D novel series written by Hideyuki Kikuchi and translated into English by Kevin Leahy. I've posted an identical thread on /lit/ because I'm unsure which board would be more appropriate and have set up a strawpoll for those interested to vote on. I do this because while they're novels, the series has spurred several Manga and Anime adaptations making it /a/ adjacent. However, the main focus of these threads will be on the individual novels as we read through them.Currently, I've only ever seen the anime movie, Bloodlust, but have acquired the first three volumes. I'd like to read through the series and see if any other Anons would care to join me. I think I'll aim to post this general once a month on the 13th (because it's a spooky number) which will give us enough time to read the next Volume. Each Volume seems to only be around 200 pages, meaning about 30 days between threads should be enough time for everyone to finish but I'm open to extending or shortening that time if others feel I should. As of right now, there are 30 volumes and The Readers Guide translated into English, meaning this book club can go on for quite some time. In these threads, I'd like to discuss the books in depth and see other peoples opinions, reviews, and impressions or just hang out. Also, any official interviews, reviews, or news clippings for the series are more than welcome in these threads. If (you) are interested, please post a reply and aim to finish Volume 1 by May 13th.I'll provide a google drive I've set up containing every volume currently in English here: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/2/folders/19YrG2dC2B5vQ_eaYrfe_QD4e1ljveOSHVote here for which board you think this should be posted on in the future:https://strawpoll.com/GeZAR6R0byVSorry for the repost, but the Previous Thread died way too quickly >>287281665 I won't post another Book Club thread until May 13th.
>>287288596>drive linkDon't post plaintext links on 4chan, and ideally don't use drive. Use something like mega and obscure the link through leetspeak (ie m3g4 dot c0m)Otherwise chances are your drive will get found by webscrapers and/or deleted. Check general threads on /tg/ for examples
>>287288659Thanks for informing me of that. I'll use mega in the future and obscure the link. Here's the new one I'll use in the future:https://mega (dot) nz/folder/M1RD3IqI#EgmOfATaz5QkMVqCtZ2xtQ
>generalFuck off.
>>287288596Too bad the translations are slow as fuck considering the current novel is past volume 40+ but i'm already going throgu it
>>287289159So English is 10+ novels behind? And yet the spin-offs got translated.
>>287289159I'm actually hoping volume 31 will be translated by the time we reach it.
>>287289248Yeah,they started releasing from start with the omnibusses, last one is up to volume 30, so next one should start picking up from where it left,i never touched them so i don't know if content was changed though.
>>287288596>previous thread>anon suggesting to skip vol 5anyone else read that far?
>>287289498It's a "dream" type volume but considering the nature of the work i don't think itt's necessary to skip, but i'm not sure
>>287289570I don't plan to skip any volumes regardless. If that months volume sucks, so be it. Its part of the ride. Truthfully, I wish that Anon didn't spoil that.
>>287289818>Truthfully, I wish that Anon didn't spoil that.it's not really some kind of twist. 90% of the novel happens in a dream. it's a good novel and one where d is actually challenged, but ultimately inconsequential.
>>287288596a hard read honestly. tried doing it in japanese and i didn't stop because of my ability but the sheer amount and verbosity in it
>>287288596>mfw whenever D is described as beautifulThere's a running joke you'll get hospitalized 100 pages in if you take a shot whenever it gets brought up.
