>Since they didn't like anything remotely acidic, shops stocked only dark roast coffee
boomers were and are retarded consumers who just buy what theyre told is good, and dark roasting coffee is a great way to hide defects and low quality, so thats what cafes stocked because it allowed them to make shitty cheap coffee palatable.

trips of deception, world champs use ridiculous meme techniques to bring out the bizarre notes of their overly processed beans in order to shock judges
doesnt mean we as home brewers cant learn anything from them but they should not be directly emulated in my opinion

Those meme techniques come from the home bud. Employed baristas aren't toying with new shit during the work day, they're just serving coffee. Personal experimentation breeds innovation, that innovation bleeds over into competition. Why the fuck do you think Rolf has been traveling and filming randoms? He's fishing.

>>
>>20464577
you have a point but for the most part home brewers arent going to have access to the same lots as competition brewers so those drastic techniques wont necessarily help them
hence why i said we can potentially learn from them
>>
I've been drinking espresso pods free at work to save money. Felt guilty about it at first but it's honestly not awful

I don't need to be constantly buying CoE ethiopians or La Palma legends to fuck around with flash chilling. The "technique" is still going to be the technique.
>>
>>20464604
yeah you can try it and see if it works for whatever coffee and adjust it to your taste
by direct emulation i meant copying the techniques 1:1 on any given coffee thinking it will certainly result in a superior cup because the champs did it and won

I want to try Aeropress, but I refuse to buy an all plastic brewer. The most plastic I've got in a brewer is the Hario Switch and I justified that with the fact I can probably rig something wood or metal in place of the resin switch.
Why can't they release a glass or metal Aeropress already? HOW DIFFICULT IS IT TO MAKE A STAINLESS-STEEL TUBE IN WHICH TO BREW COFFEE?

I recently tried some arabic coffee and I loved how it tasted. I have had turkish coffee before, but just the coffee and cardamom was all I needed. It was one of the most enjoyable cups I had had in a long time. It left me thinking I might have to get one of the basic Turkish coffee making apparatuses they use, but then I remembered that this stuff is unfiltered.

What is the verdict on unfiltered coffee these days? Years ago I ended up grabbing a Hario V60 because it sounded like at the time people were pretty convinced you should stick to paper filtered coffee if you drank coffee daily. Is it still like that? I would be drinking Arabic coffee daily so I'm worried about if having the unfiltered coffee might be introducing some negative stuff into my diet.
>>
>>20467080
If you're truly concerned you can always filter the coffee through whatever filtering apparatus you've got. See >>20464333
>>
>>20467125
Yeah I was thinking of just continuing to use my Hario V60 afterward as a filter, or just one of my Aeropress paper filters since they are way cheaper.

Does anyone have recommendations for a Turkish/Arabic coffee maker if I were to get one? Both an electric and standard one as I am curious if the price difference would justify going for an electric one.

New Nayib Bukele red bourbon honey amber beans bruhs.
>The farm of Emilio Lopez, owner of Cuatro M, with its Ayutepeque, El Manzano, Santa Julia and El Naranjo estates, needs no introduction. For several years now, Emilio and we have been experimenting with different processes, different plot sizes and different botanical varieties, to bring you coffees of rare diversity.
>Cuatro M produces, processes and exports its own coffees, as well as coffees from neighbouring farms. Led by Emilio Lopez since 2001, Cuatro M has a long tradition in the coffee industry. Emilio is the sixth generation of coffee growers in the family. In taking over the management of the family farms, Emilio's main aim was to create a new and unique business in El Salvador. In 2005, Emilio and his team set up the processing plant (the bénéficio) on the El Manzano farm. Today, with one of the finest production facilities in Central America, he is able to transform his coffees using a variety of treatment methods and processes, always with the aim of achieving perfection.
>El Manzano is one of Emilio's flagship farms. It was with this farm that we first introduced Cuatro M coffees to Europe in 2012. Located 16 km from the town and the volcano of Santa Ana, also known as Ilamatepec in Nahuatl (the language of the Uto-Aztecan family), El Manzano is the heart of the company, as the processing plant is based there. El Manzano is a 70-hectare farm situated at an altitude of between 1200 and 1500 metres, on volcanic soil. It is owned by Margarita Diaz de Lopez, great-granddaughter of the founder, Cornelius Lemus. 90% of the farm is planted with Red Bourbon, but other plots are planted with Pacamara, Yellow Bourbon, Typica and Kenya.

>For the second year running, Emilio separated the highest part of the farm, El Manzano. We thought it would give a sweeter profile than the rest of the farm, given that it's at an altitude of between 1,500 and 1,600 metres. Emilio called it La Cumbre ('the top'), because it's the highest part of the farm! We gave it our first try last year as a plain Bourbon Rouge and loved the very fruity profile of this coffee! This year, we're offering the Cumbre in plain, honey and washed form.
They smell like cocoa, taste like hot chocolate with caramel. Balanced bitterness and acidity, the mouthfeel is thick and syrupy with a proper lingering aftertaste.
Really tasty cuppa.
I'm sated.

Aeropress premium should be coming out later this year. Glass, alu, and steel. I'd expect it to be north of 100usd.

I'm not paying more than 50 USD to deal with the fragility of glass. If it costs more than that I suppose I'll take my chances with the Australian o-ring. Why haven't the Chinese come up with a mass produced stainless steel Aeropress clone? There's plenty of plastic aeropress clones out there. They have the measurements.

During the work week, i tend to go for Nespresso pods or drip coffee because i don't want any hassle. however, during the weekend, i'd like to take my time and try to make a nicer coffee.
i was initially looking an espresso machine, but now looking into a Moka Pot. it looks like a fun way to make coffee and from what i read it takes a certain amount of proactice to get it right.
thoughts on the moka pot?
>>
>>20472779
Possibly the worst brewing method available. Get a hario switch instead.
>>
>>20472798
whats so bad about it? wasn't really looking for a pour over type
>>
>want a bigger moka pot
>Get the stainless steel Venus one instead of a larger aluminium classic one
>It's better in every way
God I feel like an idiot not buying stainless from the start. I can actually clean it and the silicone gasket actually prevents leaks without having to death grip tighten the thing. Somehow it seems to conduct heat better too since it actually brews faster as well (not that much faster, but still).

Also I can run citric acid water through it multiple times to actually clean it and it is fragrance free and don't need to worry about a bunch of aluminium particulates or pitting my aluminium with deeper rust.

>>20472779
Literally the only practice you need is knowing when to take it off the stove to prevent it from hissing and pissing hot steamy shit into your coffee.
>>
>>20472779
I only drink espresso when I go in a cafe. (2-4 times a month) Espresso needs fresh coffee beans. I can't drink enough at home to have them always fresh. Espresso is like the benchmark of coffee. At home I enjoy mediocre filter coffee. I'm not autistic about it anymore.
>>
>>20472957
do you enjoy making it with the moka pot? you tried other methods?
>>
>>20472963
No, I don't enjoy making coffee because it's always a mess, even if you spray your beans with water, grounds still go all over the fucking place.
In terms of other methods? It's literally the least hassle one and is the best in terms of consistency, as far as I can tell. Unlike other methods and machines, you can fully service these shits too without much hassle. The output is "espresso like" and you can dilute it with water and it basically tastes like any kind of generic Americano or regular percolated coffee (drip brew, pour over, whatever).
>>
>>20472963
If you want a list of what I tried before:
Aeropress: sucks ass, very inconsistent, painful to vacuum seal, messy if it decides to channel around the outside.
Pour over: pure, unadulterated autism and probably the least enjoyable way to make coffee. Inconsistent as fuck as far as I'm concerned unless you're autism maxx or a professional barista cuck.
Any drip machine machine: it's ok...
Immersion brewing (e.g. French Press, basket brewing, etc): hit or miss. Oily as fuck, works well with some coffee, not so well for others. Probably the easiest way to make coffee and you can do it with low hassle.
>>
>>20472954
At its best, its a pale imitation of espresso. If you're looking to waste time on your days off go for it. If you're looking for better coffee on your days off, look elsewhere. Switch gives you pourover autism when you want it and french press simplicity when you want something easy.
>>20472969
>even if you spray your beans with water, grounds still go all over the fucking place
sounds like a skill issue?

There are no local roasters in my area. I live extremely rural, so I try roasters from all over the country instead. The best Cafe near me buys its coffee from a Sydney based roaster and we are in the Snowy Mountains region which is quite a distance away. The closest roaster to me is ONA and I'm sick of buying their stuff, I want to try new things.

>moka pot is fun and easy once you have half an idea what youre doing
What do you have to know? It seems pretty simple from everything I've seen.
>>
>>20475237
#1
Don't fill the basket/funnel to the brim. Leave a millimeter or two of empty space. This gave me the biggest improvement in taste. No more acrid taste that many associate with moka brews.
The fresher the roast, the more empty space you should leave. Aerate/distribute the coffee with a toothpick or sewing pin. Absolutely do not tamp or pack it down in any way.

#2
Don't expect to get the advertised amount of brewed coffee out. I have a six cup (advertised as 300ml) and I consistently get ~200ml brews out before the hissing phase kicks in. If you try to get the full advertised amount out it will taste bad.

In what way?
Is it too bitter? Grind coarser, higher brew heat (faster brew, less extraction).
Is it too sour? Grind finer, lower brew heat (longer brew time, greater extraction).
Is it astringent (sour, bitter, and burnt tasting)? Put less coffee in the funnel, remove from heat before it starts hissing.
But honestly, sometimes the coffee just doesn't work with a particular brew method.

Does this listing seem to be selling original C3, or is it just a very good scam? It's one-third of the price of the cheapest kingrinder I could find in my eastern european currency, and that makes me suspicious.
https://pl aliexpress com/item/1005006389606750.html

Also, are those third party upgrades a good idea to buy for a quarter of the difference between the C3 and the C3ESP?
https://pl aliexpress com/item/1005005658481664.html
>>
>>20478685
Does this ship to your country? If the K6 is out of your budget, I would consider the iCafilas over the C3. Heptagonal burr and external adjustment vs pentagonal burr and internal adjustment. I haven't tried it myself but it's worth a shot over the C3.
aliexpress com/item/1005006443994668.html
aliexpress com/item/1005004716483115.html

Anyways, there seem to be a lot of these cheap no name Chinese handgrinders on AliExpress these days. If the above recommendation is still too expensive for you, I can look around for something cheaper. Let me know.
>>
>>20478738
I'll have to check them on pc to make sure, but it looks like they ship here. But I have two questions about iCafilas. First, what is the difference between the two listings you posted? One names itself as upgraded but doesn't say in which way it is. And the second one is about how versatile H40 seems to be. I couldn't find anything on reddit about iCafilas or Turin H40 with the help of google aside from less than five people mentioning it's a good cheap grinder. I like to mostly brew with a french press, V60, and mokka pot, so being able to grind from coarse to fine is nearly a must have, and from what I found out, C3 can do it okayishly, but what about iCafilas?
>>

>>
>>20478853
>First, what is the difference between the two listings you posted?
No differences in the product itself as far as I can tell. One is sold by "i Cafilas Official Store" but with less total sales. The other is sold by a standard dropshipping store, but with higher total sales. I mainly posted two links to give you another option in case one didn't ship to your country.

>And the second one is about how versatile H40 seems to be.
It's another Chinese Commandante clone. Seems to be the same burr geometry as the C40. I don't own one personally, but its similar enough to the Kingrinder K6 (which I do own) that I would give it a shot. Should perform similarly to C40 and K^ for anything from moka to french press. Timemore C3 burr produces more fines than C40 burr and clones.

is there any advantage of having a pannarello wand over a normal (some call it "commercial") steam wand?

i am looking at two coffee machines, they're exactly the same, even their price is the same, except one has a pannarello and the other one has the commercial wand. according to many people i've read online, the latter option is better and many even tweak their machine by replacing the pannarello with the commercial one. so if i like coffee drinks with milk, should i go for the version with the commercial one? is there anything that can only be made with a pannarello but not with the upgraded one? apparently the pannarello injects extra air into the milk so it's better for making it foamy like for cappuccino, but that can also be achieved equally well with the commercial wand with some techniques, right?

sry i'm kinda newb in this, i hope i asked in the right place.
>>
>>20480553
Panarello wands are ez mode, normal wands will take more practice to use but will give you better texture.

I guess not perfect copy of a good design would be better than okish design here. Just be mindful that if it will break after few uses I'll find you and eat your liver out :3 And by "Timemore C3 burr produces more fines than C40 burr and clones" you mean espresso levels of fine or still in the mokka territory?
>>
>>20480698
>Just be mindful that if it will break after few uses I'll find you and eat your liver out :3
Funny you should say that, I just ate some liver not even 10 minutes ago :D.
Please remember that I still reccomend the K6 if you can afford it. I'm only recommending the H40/iCafilas as a cheaper K6 alternative.

>you mean espresso levels of fine or still in the mokka territory?
Eh, C3 burr geometry is similar to Kinu and clones (Kingrinder K4, 1zepresso J series), which are definitely more espresso focused grinders. It would probably work well for moka, but not ideal for pourover and french press.

H40 and C3 are 200 poor bucks and K6 is 950 so that's a big difference and I would like to wait with buying something that expensive until it will be discounted or I could get good electric grinder on a discount too.
And I plan to mostly drink mokkas when I would grind it by hand buy I also want to keep one grinder for long so versatility is more important here. I can always get something more espresso focused later or with a bit of luck just get something at a discount in a future. And if you're scared than don't even worry to barricade your doors and windows, I will come from below :3

>>20481196
Just fyi, Kingrinder has recently released a new cheaper model line, the P series. In which the P2 is the C40 equivalent. But I strongly recommend against it. The burr itself is fine, but everything else sucks. Biggest downsides are the high amount of static due to the plastic construction, and weak plastic itself. I lightly tapped mine on a towel covered countertop to dislodge some stubborn fines and the burr assembly became unbound from the plastic. Luckily, I was able to fix it, and this didn't affect performance. This on top of many minor inconveniences mean I cannot recommend it in good faith. I got the P2 as a beater grinder so I can keep my K6 in better condition, but in retrospect I should have looked into another C40 clone like the iCafilas.

>until it will be discounted

X axis is extraction %, Y axis is total dissolved solids. The brew ratios are the isolines, for example a 1:12 will have a lot of dissolved solids even with low extraction and the end result will be sour. With the same extraction and a lower ratio (1:17), your coffee will have less dissolved solids and the end result would be sweeter.

I will buy one... eventually.

New 110th country, brazil laughs wamen washed bourbon, catuai, caturra and pache beans one day late for pachamama's day.

>This blend of fully washed SHB EP coffee was produced by a group of 124 women producers working with the Asociación Civil Comercializadora Maya Alternativa (COMAL).

>With the support of COMAL, the women producers who contributed to the Café de Mujeres batch are focusing on improving the quality of the coffee and the environmental sustainability of their farms. They take part in livestock-sharing projects, produce their own organic fertiliser, attend workshops on entrepreneurship and financial literacy, and regularly renovate their rootstock to keep the trees healthy and productive.

>While coffee is their main cash crop, they also grow honey, fruit trees and subsistence crops such as maize and beans. They also plant trees to preserve biodiversity and protect groundwater reserves, as well as a variety of flowers and plants that attract bees and increase their honey production.

>Each producer processes and dries her own coffee on small terraces. They each have their own small pulpers, fermentation tanks, washing systems and parabolic dryers. COMAL organises the collection of dried parchment from members and delivers it to the FECCEG dry mill in Quetzaltenango. Here, the quality team analyses each batch. Depending on the quality, it will either be kept separate and sold in micro-batches, or mixed with other coffees from the same producer organisation and quality group.

>Strictly High Grown (SHG) specifies the altitude at which the coffee was grown. A coffee must be grown at an altitude of 1,200 metres or more to be considered SHG. The higher altitude and lower temperatures mean that the coffee fruit ripens more slowly, creating a denser bean.

Pulled a double. Impressive thicc body, rich balanced taste as the bitterness and acidity blend to my liking. Aftertaste, super lingering and pleasurable.
Delicious cuppa.

Hello goffee friends, it's Mokafrà.

Are you ok, frens? Are there new Moka chads?

I'm still helping friends and people who need help with coffee despite not touching it since 4 months, it's hard, and the Flair is still sitting here next to me on my desk. I don't know if I should sell it, it hurts not being able to use it.

I miss (you), XO XO.

>>

>>
>>20489115
I have a P2 I bought as a beater grinder so I can keep my K6 in nicer condition. In my opinion these plastic kingrinders are not worth it due to high amount of static and sub-par build quality. Plenty of metal body C40 clones on the market for only slightly more money than the kingrinder P series. Sure, the burrs might not be as good as kingrinder, but they should be close enough. Get a K series if you can afford it Don't waste your time and money with the P series.

I always wondered how coffee grew, thanks anon!
I wonder how long it takes for a new nut to grow on the stalk after harvest
>>
>>20490200
>Most established coffee farms have a nursery in which to raise seedlings before planting them out on the farm for production. The coffee beans are first planted in rich soil, and will soon germinate. The bean itself is then lifted out of the ground by the developing shoot, and at this stage they are often called ‘soldiers’. They look strangely like a roasted coffee bean has been attached to the top of a thin green stem. Not long after this, the bean bursts open to reveal the first leaves. Coffee plants grow quickly and after 6–12 months they can be moved from the nursery into production.
>Most coffee trees have one main harvest per year, though the trees in some countries have a second harvest, which is usually smaller and often of a slightly lower quality. The cycle is first triggered by a prolonged period of rainfall. This causes the trees to bloom, producing lots of white blossom flowers with a strong scent that is reminiscent of jasmine.
>Insects such as bees pollinate the flowers, although Arabica is able to self pollinate, meaning that unless they are knocked off the tree by adverse weather, the flowers will always yield fruit.
>It takes up to nine months until the fruits are ready to harvest. Unfortunately, coffee cherries do not ripen uniformly. The coffee producer has a difficult choice between harvesting all the fruits from each tree at the same time and having a certain quantity of unripe or overripe coffee cherries in the harvest, or paying pickers to do multiple passes of the same trees so each cherry is harvested when it is perfectly ripe.

Quick pastejob from World Atlas of Hoffee.

Can we talk about milk frothers? I bought a 35,- mug-like frother, but it seems it is already breaking down by no longer being able to reach the right temperature. The milk comes out as bubbly and not foamy.
So I am looking for a replacement for it and I saw manual frothers much like a french press as well as the Sage Milk Café.
What are people's thoughts on these things? I don't want to invest in something that will potentially break in 6 months or a year, and I think the manual ones are too much work (?): as in you have to heat up the milk to the correct temperature and you can potentially make a mess.

Do people really drink coffee first thing upon waking up? Caffein is a diuretic, and the human body is already dehydrated after 6 - 8 hours of sleep. Personally, I drink coffee around midday, hours after waking up, giving my body plenty of time (and water) to rehydrate in the morning.

The only way that coffee can dehydrate you is if you just eat the beans, any water in it will hydrate you more than what you urinate
However you should not drink caffeine until the sleep hormone (I forget what it's called) metabolizes out of your blood or you'll crash
