>>
>>100089178
Pretty much just bill credits on trade-in and the like. Large carrier numbers seem to be stagnating, so they're trying to attract new customers, but it's hard when by and large they're tethered to whatever deals are being offered by manufacturers and they're floating those offers to all the big boys, like the current Pixel deal.
>>
>>100091394
LG V60. Can be had NIB from ebay for your requested price point or much cheaper for used/refurbed. I just got mine in the mail yesterday with the dual screen and it's frigging amazing. Paid 150 for both with tax.

Because making the camera nice is one of those easy selling points, since it's a feature most people use since your two options for a camera nowadays is either phone camera or DSLR, except for outliers using vintage stuff as a gimmick and the rare cheap-ish point and shoot.

to do banking on your phone in most cases you need either play integrity fix or aurora store to download them in first place
not many banks nowadays bother to check for anything but root in the app so if you hide that you should be fine

Several reasons.

The iPhone:
>1080p screen, not 4k or 1440p
>No reverse wireless charging
>No dual Bluetooth
>No headphone jack
>No option for sd cards
>No split-screening your apps
>No foldable displays
>No second screen
>No fast charging
>USB-C 3.0 only in the 15 Pro Max
>No built-in Stylus
>Can't keep more than one account saved on apps
>Cant torrent
>Can't do Picture in picture with every app (yes, we can even do it for YouTube for free)
>Updates constantly slowing phone down
>Can't have gifs or videos as backgrounds
>Can't customize alarm (or notification tone) with song that they own
>Cant customize ringtone with song that they own, have to purchase ringtone from Apple app store
>Cant emulate games without jailbreaking
>Can't download apps not in app store
>No phone charger in box
>No in-screen fingerprint scanner
>$120 wireless headphones DO NOT COME WITH PHONE
>It doesn’t tell you how long your phone has left to fully charge when you plug it in
>No way to close all apps at once
>Can’t pause or stop a video while recording: you can only stop a video and start a brand new one
>No option to flip the camera around while recording
>no separate volumes for ringtone/media/notifications/alarms/calls
>no ascending volume (for wake-up-alarms)
>cannot set more than one timer without a hardware-dongle (apple watch) or siri
>Can't put space between apps
>Can't limit ram usage
>Can't turn phone into desktop
>Can't record phone calls
>No t9 dialing
>Can't adjust height of keyboard
>Keyboard doesn't have row dedicated to numbers
>No clipboard
>Can't picture in picture their video calls
>Can't take long screenshots outside of safari
>Can't change hotspot name without changing device name
>No cloud gaming
>No 100x zoom
>>

And the kicker is that to download 1 of these 2 apps, you need to be subscribed to the developers' Patreon account.

Today I switched from a Samsung A3 (2017) to the iPhone SE (2022).
I mostly switched because Google sent me an email to announce that they are dropping Google Wallet for Android 8, but I was already considering switching because performance was quite bad, photos were crappy and I had not enough memory on my phone.
Already had the iPhone because it was provided by work (but never had to use it). I'm very happy for now, transition to iOS was smooth as I already have an old iPad still rocking very fine. Also really happy to dodge the giant phone trend. With this new phone I should be good for 5 years \o/.

Could you recommend a good case? I was considering the Tough Armor from Spigen, any other similar recommendation?

I'm an Applecuck, looking to buy a budget Android tablet. Mostly for browsing web, reading and other multimedia.
Looking at Honor Pad X9 since it comes with Google unlike some other Chinese tablets.
But it seems like it's not possible to root the device.
So... how important is to have an ability to root the device? Am I losing some important apps that require root to run by not being able to root the device? Or is it mostly for people who want to tinker with alternative ROMs?

I'll keep this brief because it seems you don't know jack shit about android so I'll just summarize
>rooting
For custom Roms and extended features, not a deal breaker unless you need a specific use case, or ...a custom ROM
>sideloading
Can be enabled in the android settings and is one of the things that sets android apart. With this you can install fdroid and apps straight from github
If you need to web browse, use brave and set adblocking to aggressive. Idk what it is about fennec/firefox but it is so slow in comparison. If you prefer fennec for whatever reason, install ublock origin.
As for other multimedia, I have no idea what you are talking about, but tachiyomi/mihon, aniyomi and MPV with youtube-dl are all a quick install away if that helps. Also, Librera FD is the best eBook reader.
Also, that tablet is shit. I don't care how cheap it is, its fucking 2024 get you a tablet with 8gb of ram atleast. 6gb bare minimum. And the batter is too small. I'm not too worried about the CCP watching me so I would just grab something from lenovo or xiaomi. Plenty of ram and FAST. But this isnt about me. Just make sure the tablet you get has ufs 3.1
I think that is the main shit. I didn't want to go into too much detail because it felt unnecessary. Also most android tablets have micro sd support so pop that in there as well.

....Is what you thought I was gonna say!
Just get a fucking iPad. You will not like android. It is not worth it for you brother. You know that comfy Apple ecosystem is all you will need.

So I want to ask/say something I know will upset people, and I shouldn't say/ask.
(hope smartphone general is right board)

I Need to build an android phone app, but I don't want to take the time and effort.
It's a simple feature, a tool, I think all of G could use and will like.
Let me explain, and you tell me if it's worth making (for someone here to make, that is not me?)
So, go into any app (all apps soon) Let's say google or something that is usually built in like google app.
So
Step 1 - go into (google) app info
step 2 - go into (mobile data usage, there are 2 other app settings too)
Step 3 - You'll notice it's On for every app automatically, and you have to turn off.

Now to do those steps for every app one by one, is a lot.
Only 3 steps, but multiple that by 50 or 100 for all apps.
How hard can it be to make an app to do that, change that setting for all apps, in like 1 click?
Now if you know an app that does that, for that setting (I haven't seen it) let me know?
But there are Two more settings.

Open by default - open background links - is auto on, and needs to be turned off.

And I think a new setting? I didn't notice till i updated.
App battery usage - allow background usage - is auto On, and needs to be turned off.
(I thought the background data setting dealt with that?)

Now if we can make an app that turns the 3+ steps of turning each of those settings off (or on again) in One click, I think it would help a lot.
Does anyone else care about these settings being auto on for every new/installed app?
How much do I need to convince someone else to make this app tool?
Is making an app tool to change these settings in ONE click, worth making&installing a app for that? Would you install if you saw it?

I should note other app tools such as going into ALL apps storage setting and clearing cache, obviously exist, so i assume this new app would work like those? (going into app setting and changing setting inside the setting - sub-menu.)
>>
>>100112456
How hard to write programming for an app like that? I assume for a person that makes apps already, not too hard?
>>
I have some questions.

I need a phone that does not have google and all that shit, and I think so far that a pinephone with GNU Linux is the best option.

I can do without any apps, I just need it to have wificalling and also bluetooth without the stupid "low energy bluetooth" location tracking bullshit.
I have a physical code card for my banking and can log into my banks through a webbrowser so I don't need banking apps anyway, but I plan to keep internet browsing and stuff like that on my PC.

But I can not get a pinephone in my country. Any ideas on how to get it or are there even better solutions/phones nowadays?

This is practically a retro review, but after setting it up and playing with it, I wanted to give my thoughts on the V60. Got it with the DS as I mentioned upthread, and wanted to talk a bit about the pros and cons.
Pros:
Very smooth display. It's only 60 hz, but the screen is beautiful and very legible. In real world application, I really don't much notice the drop from my now retired Black Shark that I kept at 120 hz.
Feature rich. I'm an old grognard for this, but having a good headphone jack and expandable memory is a novelty nowadays, and I really hate that. If you want this as your main point and shoot and music player, it'll perform admirably with up to 2 TB of extra storage and some great software for the 3.5.
Overall performance. It's smooth and decently quick. With the dual screen able to operate as a main display to lay most of the weight in your hands, you can map controls easily to the main display and use it like a DS. It's a cool gimmick that works well provided whatever you're playing supports external controllers.
Battery life. I was worried that the dual screen would tank battery life, but honestly it lasts a very long time (about 6+ hours of SoT), even when using the secondary for media and the main for browsing and e-mail. Wireless charging is supported up to 15W, so even though I don't have my wired charging adapter yet it charges respectably quick and holds the charge well.
Camera. This is still a solid shooter for the average user, and as much as I'd love a proper telephoto, the binned images are very readable and work fine for my applications.
Cons: the dual screen is most of the cons for this thing. It's bulky, the software is very limited, the case gets in the way of even slightly chubbier 3.5 jacks(mitigated with a skinny 3.5 adapter, but still), and it makes handling it as a camera a bit awkward due to the sheer size of the device when unfolded.
Overall well worth the 150+tax I spent for the setup.

Go ahead and do it if you can. There are thousands of android app tutorial videos on youtube and probably some udemy courses too if you want to spend money.
The funniest thing is all this stuff your talking about, my firewall (netguard) already does this for me. I have it in lockdown mode for wifi and mobile data and only enable the shitni need. It does all of that stuff. Except for that battery crap, but feel like an app using your wifi in the background will probably effect your phones battery and performance more.
Also idk about other androids, but on miui the default setting is always battery saver afaik. Which selectively restricts background processes.
Many apps will tell you this and ask youbif you can disable battery restriction for their app to work correctly though.

I looked at some lenses to put over my phone's lens to make it telephoto or some for macro but I just don't know what to think

all the "good" ones (shilled online) seem to be made for apple phones because they have only 30 models per year vs the 500 models yearly for androids
smartphone camera bumps always change so nothing seems to be a universal fit

imagine a world without modern nu-consumer globohomo autism

imagine these kind of phones
with modular design
imagine being able to shoot a 9mm bullet through your phone's display, and buy another display for just $200 or so, and install it by connecting it to the compute base module with a couple little screws and a flex cable

god dammit the future could have been so much better than what we have now

a phone with the pocket footprint of what the typical smartphone size is now would allow for some seriously great flip devices with a physical num pad but we don't have them

we're scraping the bottom of the barrel being cucked and fucked in the ass at every corner, with manufacturers mocking us and telling us we're nothing but retarded slave niggers and must take what they give us, like with samsung adding the bixby button that can't be remapped.. but nobody giving people what they ASK FOR with a shutter/customizable physical button

>>100126102
No, computational devices remain mostly identical to day 1 performance or simply stop working entirely.
There may be some aging related performance loss resulting from thermal issues (thermal pads/paste drying out, etc) but with welded/soldered connections or typical solid state (non gaymer fag) devices this isn't an issue.

The actual thing that makes "old bad, new good" when it comes to phones is totalitarian policies, customer abuse, corruption, malice, evil, and did I say corruption already? Oh, yeah. Well that's a big part of it.
When all of the pure fucking evil things don't come into play, the next real issue for "performance loss" isn't performance loss at all, but just added software complexity instead. Apps update, might start doing things in sandboxing or other shit, and all of that consumes more. Newer devices are faster so they appear to be working just as fast on new devices as before but the workload shifts.

If you have a phone sitting on a shelf for 10 years and don't connect it to the internet and run the same version of applications it had installed 10 years ago, everything should be exactly as fast as it were before.

If you connect to the internet your apps might be bloated and run slower.
If you have an Apple phone and connect it to the internet, it will probably update and SLOW ITSELF DOWN on purpose to get you to buy the newer Applel products.
This is not a myth or a theory, this is a fact.
Applel has a record of purposefully slowing down old phones to make people more likely to upgrade since their phone feels sluggy.
https://www.cnet.com/tech/mobile/apple-to-start-paying-out-500m-in-iphone-slowdown-lawsuit/

This is the evil I was talking about before.
Nothing technical, just pure evil/corruption/etc.

On a technical side your device never slows down unless it's overheating. In reality, software bloat happens, and sometimes your manufacturer becomes a nigger and forcefully throttles your device.

Damn. Well thanks for the answer.

Modular phones are still consumerism and prompts annual releases and the all familiar marketing.
Globohomo has nothing to do with it either, you're just throwing in the familiar words.
The word you're looking for is unfair manufacturer practices.
Wrong words being used to describe everything based on things being barely related is why I hate meme culture.
>>
>>100126363
Anon, where do you think unfair manufacturer practices come from?
I'll leave you a hint.
The word starts with g and ends in o, with an h near the middle.

From my point of view, the reason for this is as global as it gets, the way economy itself works.
Got to keep numbers growing, got to keep pumping out products, both hardware and software.
Hardware can be slowed down, yeah, but in my vision devices getting bloat and slow down is a result of IT being an F1 car of economy. Companies HAVE to hire programmers, the cheaper the better, and make them pump out code, the quality of which doesn't matter, the only thing that matters is KPI, if they won't the other company will and they are out of business the next day.
As a result, simplest apps are at least 200 Mb by now because of bad code and countless frameworks. This forces hardware manufacturers to push computational power. It's like non-stop throwing coal into train engine.

Human greed, plain and simple, but hey, you do your conspiracies, because people aren't evil as is, they need organization and motivation to do evil stuff like those bad guys from Austin Powers, right?

I'll just leave this here for you.

Yes, individuals can be evil. So what.
The evilness of one individual cannot match that of giant corporations or globohomo or hurt anywhere near as many people as giant corpos can.

Autsin Powers movies are great, they're satirical/parody but honestly not far from the truth in underlying themes.
Elon Musk in real life is unironically not all that far from Dr. Evil, he may be less evil, but his starlink satellites have already tainted normal human ability to take photographs of the night sky without satallite spam ruining images with ugly fly-by streaks caused by them. I know this might sound conspiratorial but assume I am not an idiot and just think about it for a moment.
Slaves are mining cobalt, Elon is shilling electronic vehicles, and we've got a private space industry that launched a sports car into orbit for memes and his company has filled the night sky with visible low orbit satellites. He's not a comical villain like Dr. Evil, but to some extent he (regardless of his intentions) resembles him in some ways quite well.

Cardinal rule of smartphones: If it's not from China, it's not worth your time brah!
>>
>>100126553
Do you get paid in yuans or social credit?
>>100126536
Are you American?
There's something in American consumer mindset I don't understand. They complain about products getting worse or marketing deceptive, but they don't stop using them.
If Roku stick is showing you ads atop non-Roku video, just unplug it and throw it away.
Same goes for everything else: coffee, websites, tourism, cars, you name it. It's not like every single manufacturer and provider on the planet is scummy predator. Not yet that is.
>>
Nuclear powered smartphone when?
>>
>>100126553
>If it's not from China
Define "from China".
The majority of iPhones are technically from China.
>>
Is there any point buying an iPhone 15 Pro now or should I wait until September?
>>
>>100126597
Yes.
No, I don't own Roku products. You cannot even use them without creating a Roku account and connecting them to the internet.
I do not own a modern smartphone (mine is old, before they started going overboard on locking shit down). I do not pay for streaming services.
The last good Microsoft operating system was Windows XP.

>>100126624
Almost all smartphones are made in China, in one way or another.
The latest meme trend in defrauding consumers is to say "Made in X, with global materials" when that can legally allow for it to be Made in China, and "assembled" (which can be putting two pieces together) to allow for a "Made in X" label. Internal components may still have "Made in China", but they won't always be visible from the outside.

>>100126674
Why wait until September?
iPhone 15 Pro is either good enough now, or it isn't. If you need a new phone you can't wait 6 months. If you don't need a new phone, you probably don't need what's coming in September. Have some restraint.
>>
>>100126674
Will iPhone 16 be worth waiting? We can't know. Save a couple hundred dollars when the price drops? Couldn't hurt.

Any phone over $200 is decent, any phone over $300 is good.
Just get what you feel like getting, bro.
>>
>>100126553
Sadly not true. Its so hard to find budget phones ($300-$200 range) with ufs 3.1 and a snapdragon chip.
Its like they all just decided to cut costs and the two most important things, the syoage speeds and the cpu.
Every Chinese phone I see past 2022 has a shit ass dimensity chip.
Fuq nooooooo! I'd rather die before I come in last.

Its very east to find a ufs 3.1 budget phone with a snapdragon chip from non Chinese companies.

There doesn't seem to be any reliable rumors yet about a new Razr, also the previous models came out in 2020 and 2023 (2022 did not release in the US). Next Razr could be this year, or it could be 2025-2026

does anyone have one? is it good? how's the aftermarket ecosystem?

nice!! I'd get one myself if it wasn't for the limited FLAC support, lack of headphone jack, and most importantly, usb-c. But other than that, it's one of my favorite phones out there
