>AMD was shit but eventually found the secret sauce to make great CPUs that actually compete with and in many cases beat Intel's, going on for several years now>but they can never come close to doing the same with their graphicsFucking what is stopping them from making competitive GPUs? What is Nvidia's sorcery that AMD can't replicate?
It's been a little over three weeks since I switched from a 4070super to a 7900gre. I sold the 4070ti and what I got in return was:>30-40% better performance in games>A better driver UI>AV1 encoding using relive (which shadowplay doesn't have)>Better HDR support, I keep HDR on at all times nowand I've had (almost) zero issues besides some weird screen flickering when on my desktop, which was caused by amd freesync. In fact I've actually had less driver issues because relive doesn't shit itself and constantly corrupt videos like shadowplay does, and on windows 10 ltsc nvidia has some hardware acceleration issues with steam, which kept crashing the overlay. All of that, gone.
hey guys I have to come clean I've been spreading misinformation and lies for the last year and seeing you guys struggle was pretty funI'm a shill and I do it for free (for lols) and you idiots keep falling for it

going from 60hz monitor...should i go for 144 or 240 hz? noticeable difference?
>>100172233Definitely noticeable for either one you choose, especially coming from a 60Hz monitor
>>100172250h-halp...
What now?
>>100172233I went from 60 to 120hz years ago based off seeing what 75hz can do. Going from 60 to 144 will be extremely noticeable. I can't speak on the difference between 144 and 240 though.
>>100172279yeah but is the difference between 144 and 240 big enough to matter?
>>100171980Intel got caught sleeping and AMD actually sprinted in front. Nvidia have not been caught napping even once and last gen when AMD “caught up” they still lost on DLSS/RT/CUDA which with them not doing much for those in this gen means Nvidia has managed to maintain its lead. People think RDNA5/CDNA5 will be the Zen moment for AMD in GPU but I don’t think it’ll be as simple as that because Nvidia are still innovating and improving
>>100172283Your system probably expected a different RAM profile that the sticks couldn’t run, hit an error and went back to default then the sticks started working

>>100172306Is that some setting in the bios? >>100172408I would go with the AeroCool since it's modular, I'm not a fan of non-mod PSUs
>>100172570it' not modular
>>100172408Did you check to make sure the RAM you selected is on the QVL RAM list for your motherboard?
>>100172577You sure? Your picture shows no wires plugged in compared to the Zalman which is definitely a non-modular
>>100172370First off the raw performance can be considered identical. You won't notice ±5% and neither GPU is powerful enough to productively utilize >8GB. As for the advantages of the 4060, there's framegen if you care about that plus it's much more power efficient. If they're the same price then get the 4060. If the 3060 is available at a substantial discount, say $50+, then get that unless you really want native framegen.
>>100172294Anecdotally, in my case it matters.I can't see the difference between 144 and 240 fps by just watching. But I can definitely feel it when playing.I'm certain it's not just placebo, since my scores in rhythm games are better at 240, and when I'm on 144 by mistake, it feels sluggish in a way.One thing I can see is motion clarity in fast scrolling games, like arcade type games, shmups and such. 240 is clearer than 144, as I can now see the details on those moving sprites, but still not perfectly clear.

Is native fps over 60hz really useless for non-competitive games? Most video games seem to shit themselves above that number. I like my 120hz C2 for its responsiveness however.

First time buyers tempted to consider the RX 7700/7800 XT by AMD’s army of Advanced Marketing scammers (youtube, reddit, twitter, forums etc.) should be aware that AMD have a history of releasing benchmark busting, heavily marketed, sub standard products. Although Nvidia’s 4070 only offers comparable performance, it has a broader feature set (RT/DLSS 3.0) and offers far better game compatibility (drivers). PC gamers looking to join AMD’s “2%” GPU club (Steam stats: 5000/6000/7000 series combined mkt share) need to work on their critical thinking skills: Influencers (posing as reviewers) are paid handsomely to scam users into buying inferior products. Experienced gamers know all too well that high average fps are worthless when they are accompanied with stutters, random crashes, excessive noise and a limited feature set.

I think my 4TB mechanical drive is dying. Sometimes it's really loud, sometimes it's unusually slow and rarely I get a blue screen while trying to access files in it. What program should I use to check it's health? The manufacturer's diagnostic tool didn't tell me much other than it passed it's check. If I'm going to replace it, what should I replace it with? Another mechanical drive like the WD black? Or a cheap SATA SSD? All my M2 slots are taken up right now. The primary role of this HDD is some media storage and storage of older games that don't need a SSD
>>100176388Late this year is the current guesstimate.

>>100176632they literally can't compete at the high-end. focusing mid and entry-tier GPUs just makes more market sense to both them as a company and to consumers looking for value. not everyone can buy or even needs a high-end GPU.the real question is what is nvidia going to do about their entry and mid-tier GPUs in the 5000 and later product stack. because it's generally accepted the 4060-4070 were terrible value propositions and the 4080 and 4090 were only ones worth getting. i can't imagine the market segment for mid and entry-tier GPUs can stand being shit on by nvidia for so long, as nvidia's oversales and market share have shrunk the past few years.
>>100176590You're not running 4x DDR5 kits at 7200MT/s, safest is 2x 32GB @ 6000MT/s CL30.Anything higher is a gamble with dual-rank modules.Using all four DDR5 slots isn't recommended because the memory controller isn't guaranteed to be able to handle it above JEDEC specs.Board is fine, it's basically an ASRock board with NZXT cosmetics.Alternatives below.https://ro.pcpartpicker.com/product/MZWJ7P/gigabyte-z790-aorus-elite-x-wifi7-atx-lga1700-motherboard-z790-aorus-elite-x-wifi7https://ro.pcpartpicker.com/product/TDXV3C/gigabyte-z790-aorus-pro-x-wifi7-atx-lga1700-motherboard-z790-aorus-pro-x-wifi7https://ro.pcpartpicker.com/product/bQXJ7P/gigabyte-z790-aorus-master-eatx-lga1700-motherboard-z790-aorus-masterLian Li Lancool 216 will fit that card.

>>100180190I worry about any kind of bottlenecks or possibility of upgrading (adding components or changing for new ones).

>>100180272That's fair. Intel will be changing socket with the next gen so AM5 is the right play for longevity. Though going from a 12600K to a 14700K would still offer a big uplift in multicore if needed.

I'd personally go for Intel for your usecase though. On AMD setup any instability in the Infinity Fabric due to RAM overclock (even with XMP/EXPO profile on "safe" settings like 6000CL30) is going to manifest as USB instability and audio crackling. You can leave XMP/EXPO off of course, but that's leaving performance on the table. >Intelhttps://pcpartpicker.com/list/h2FWvj - Feel free to sub the CPU for a 12600KF and pocket the difference. >>100180098Mobo is one of those things that gets horrendously under or overspecced in builds by people who don't know much about it. CPU as well, there are some people that's convinced you need an i7 to open more than a couple of Windows, or that you NEED an i7 or i9 to pair with a higher end GPU. Like fuck there was some /v/tard here posting the same shit a couple of threads ago. And obviously in a shop they're going to take any opportunity to get you to spend more. With AM5 its simpler, because the lineup of boards is fairly sane, minus some of the ewaste low end boards released recently. If you don't know what you need, you probably can't go wrong with an Asrock B650M HDV/M.2 or Pro RS, but even if you just pick a random board under $200 you probably have a 4/5 chance of getting something decent.
>>100181405Yes.https://www.tomshardware.com/news/usb-3-2-explained
>>100179743Its been a well known thing for a while with laptop. If you buy a laptop and it has shit wifi, the fix is nearly always a $20 Intel card. AMD boards and laptops for one reason or another no longer ship with Intel wifi after 2021, and Qualcomm Atheros no longer makes M.2 E-key format cards (you can still find them on high end AMD Thinkpad though as a soldered card), which leaves manufacturers with Mediatek (officially the AMD RZ616, shit drivers) or Realtek (RTL8852CE usually, shit hardware, ok drivers). So you have a choice of unstable wifi, or somewhat stable but slow wifi when you buy boards with on-board wifi, which is not a choice at all when you can just get an Asrock board with an E-key slot and add an Intel AX200 desktop kit for $20.

Anyone ever bought any parts as open box from their local microcenter? Any risks? It looks like it's just items that were opened and returned within their 15 day return policy. They have Samsung 980 nvmes for dirt cheap at mine. Even cheaper than the cheapest WD nvmes.

>>100182789for 4k even?
>>100182789>7900GRE is the best gpu right now
>>100182695Pretty common for the open box MB and CPUs to have damaged pins. Havent tried drives but they are probably just scavenged from those dead builds and are likely fine.

>>100179326>80% of the pc install base is geforceNo one recommends AMD outside of a few retarded shills, OP being one. Just look at Nvidia's meteoric stock price and ask yourself why and how, and let me tell you that was built on the bread and butter of gaming
>>100182940This, I only root for AMD to hopefully make Nvidia cards cheaper I wouldn't actually use that crap.

>>100182949>>100182940you guys are too pessimistic about AMD, they just need to come up with an answer to CUDA and stop shipping the cards with a bunch of driver problems and they'll be competitive. two more years
Does DRAM SSD matter for boot drive? Thinking Acer GM7000, but if it doesn't matter will go for cheap Silicon Power.
>>100183127DRAM-less isn't import anymore because modern SSDs use Host Memory Buffer (HMB) instead.Basically instead of the SSD having it's own DRAM, it uses a tiny little bit of your PCs RAM.

>>100182927Let me guess, 4k is actually 4k using FSR performance, right?

>>100183445A user cant really damage a drive in the return window, but can damage a cpu/mbo. They will let you exchange a dead part anyway. Check SMART for disk errors and fill the drive and do speedtests.
>>100183858I'm surprised microcenter can get away with reselling dead parts like that. Don't they have to test the parts before reselling them?
