I did another study of this actress, the one on the right was from a few days ago, sleep's been poor and I feel that it's affecting my ability to draw properly.

I just feel she looks so creepy in the middle. I tried to make her look less creepy but it's hard.
I need more sleep.

WIP. It's been a long time since I've tried rendering anything and I'm mostly happy with what I have so far, but I'm sure fresher eyes can spot mistakes or something that looks off.

>>7146918
The reason the head in the middle looks creepy stems from two different things. One is that her head shape in your drawing is too rounded and feels more squished. Ideally the bottom part of the circle guideline should be right at the mouth, not below it (at least in a front facing view.)

Likewise, while you might be going for a stylized look with her eyes, the big bug eyed look and her eyes being too close together are giving you that uncanny feeling you're recognizing. Ideally, the space between both eyes should be about the width of an eye. Also recognize that even in the reference with her eyes open, they're not THAT open. Think of the eyes as spheres and the eyelids the blankets resting atop of them.

I actually think if you were to open up this file, re-size the eyes and space them out it would actually not look that strange.

I think you could improve on trying to capture a more "closer to reality but not full on realism" look for your studies, at least for now so it can help you understand more about the shapes of the face and proportions.

You're not 100% using symbol drawing, but it's sort of there, especially in the sketch in the bottom left corner.

Trace over the reference photo with your Loomis head guidelines and compare that to how your sketches are structured.

Last piece of advice or exercise I can recommend is iterative drawing. If you're like me and have more of an ADHD brain this might burn you out, but repeatedly drawing the same thing and slowly noticing and fixing mistakes with each sketch helps a huge amount. Try drawing the same sketch from the same reference but try to improve little by little with each sketch. I guarantee you your 4th or 5th sketch will be miles ahead of your first.

>>
>>7146938
Thanks for all that advice, really helpful and I'll see what I can do later, just doing something else drawing related at the moment and I don't really want to draw too much longer today, so I just wanna make sure I get this out of the way with before I see what happens if I tweak her face.
>>
>>7146918
Try tracing the reference image, just to see how far off you are in terms of proportion. Then, redraw it. It should be a lot better

You need more repetitions, keep it up, focus on accuracy and filling in shapes/values. Try to color in your piece and adjust as you go along, if something looks off overlay your reference and one you know what to move adjust. Focus on photo realism for just one illustration in might take a few hours or days but you'll learn.

Idk i'm not an expert but i did study few days ago spine and like ribcage and what i learned that first 7 vertebra are like moving separately from spine and has 2 special vertebra axis and atlas i think that connect to the skull and help it move or sum

Maybe i'm retarded, again i'm just a beg but feels like it's off to me as neck feels like a stick that just sits on top the head. Idk like i feel like this one would have more pinching and shit from pulling the head like that

I do what everyone does, whatever bullshit allows me to get any money. Fixing and maintaining PCs and operative systems keeps you quite occupied in this fucked up economy. People pays for basic social app management. Or for even explaining wtf is crypto.
I heard many anons here going crazy about "making it", "muh future", "being someone". I think that at some point an artist must come to terms with the fact that "the world" doesn't need you. The "art community" doesn't need you. YOU need YOU. Your art whatever it is, must fulfill YOU, and no one else. And then you will realize that you're free. You don't need to go to some "school", or to meet "some requirements at certain age", or to have "that" tablet.
What I mean, is that there's no amount of money worthy of your artistic effort. Not because it is "valuable" per se, but IT IS a gigantic effort to you. It is hard, even if it is CRAP. Doing that crap requires a HUGE spiritual effort for you to produce. When you can mop a floor and have a laugh cleaning toilets for ten times the money, and ten times less effort. If someone "wants" your art, it must be costly to them, as costly is to you. Your time is invaluable. And your time to do art, is sacred. To achieve that, you must have covered your basic monetary needs. So you can say, "I don't need your money". I have what I need already. Why would I spent a whole month doing your stupid business anniversary funny card you need for a laugh at the office? When I could spent that month doing a thing for me instead that would cost me nothing and give me joy and happiness? It's quite tricky to find what makes you happy. Some people need to rise a family, even if it's hell, they are naturally geared to that. Well, therapeutic rant session off. Lmao xD

btw I remember your bridgman drawings were really clean, do you think if I copied yours instead of the book it would be ok ? basically I'm asking if your observation ability while doing them was on par.
also what exactly does doing them twice entail, copying once and then doing it from memory a few minutes later or copying the whole book and then the whole from memory again ?

how do I make the skirt in this pose better?
>>
>>7147665
You could do that if it helps you to go forward. It will be easier, because sometimes I struggled to decipher the original drawings myself. So I guess I made them much clearer to understand, to me atleast.

I should say that Bridgman style is not "anatomically correct" in "academy terms" lol. It's an artistic depiction. I just looks cool, wich is an important thing in art. Frazzetta used it to produce his style and changed everything. It's an "artistic exercise". It's a meme tool. "Do Bridgman twice", it's a meme to psych you up to do a tedious art exercise and finish it. You will learn shapes, for sure. There's no other way to learn, but to copy and reproduce, again and again... and again.

You could do the same with any other thing, like I dunno, do "Naruto twice" and you will be a mangaka, lol. Of course it works, copy, copy, and copy, till you don't need to copy anymore. You will tweak shapes and styles to your own needs. But also, trying to "mimic an style" never works, it always ends up having your own signature. So you shouldn't worry about "getting infected by someone else's style". That never happens in a literal way.

This anon >>7147678 is right, first try to simplify the object and design. Like the fabric itself it's made of paper or cardboard, you know?
On the other hand, I approached the issue in an opposite manner lol. I added ruffles to the ends of the dress, to make it more interesting. Ruffles are tedious, and hard but it always make a simple design automatically better. I did it because I see you are quite good already, I think you can tackle that. The way you did the feet and the legs, perfect. Everything looks good. Clothing design is always on another level of difficulty. I think the key is to keep it simple, and to use straight lines, like thinking about ironed clothes, lol.

I still have my Newgrounds account from 2008 (mother fucking elementary school) - and even now there are still comments from 2024 on that old classic “Glory hole hentai RPG” game (on Newgrounds)

I guess that era is dead but there is one dude (goes by “Indivi”) on Patreon who has that cheesy middle-school-weaboo artstyle who’s doing quite well for himself. He makes these smut games in RPG Maker which have that same charm of those made by the 1-man-army-20-year-olds back then during the Armor games era, who would program the game, draw the art, do the UI, even compose the music by themselves

Hell I even still listen to the Sinjid OST sometimes (the flash game with the ninja going into the portals)

While the outside world continues obliviously, I sit right here in this cramped room - my prison cell really - day in and day out, toiling away at esoteric problems which scream at me constantly to solve them - struggles which few human beings will ever know. Every second feels like it could be done doing something easier, more productive, or even just more quickly gratifying (everybody else my age parties, for example).

>do i need to do like 5 memory sketches for every copy
Actually, I should say that you need to do 100 copies for every image.. LOL. But, you never do that literally, you do the same poses or the same shapes a thousand times by trying different things, characters, themes, projects, eventually you will do and know the shapes by natural instinct. You forced your brain to learn it. It's up to you how hard that could be. I'll be sincere, to me, doing hot girls and coom made that happen. Just like in that Robert Crumb meme. You need something like that to get you going through it all. A literal obsession. It's the truth. Or you can have a guy whipping your back forcing you to go through hundreds and thousands of paper sheets. But you need to do the grinding. Somehow. And you will learn it, one way or the other.

I see what you're saying man. I liked the art style in those games and the creativity, the variety of it all. It was all possible thanks to how easy was to do things on flash. Everyone could make it. I believe they nuked flash to stop that, to do a "reset". They sanitized the whole scene. The bastards. Won't ever let us have nice things that easy, aren't they.
>>7147704
cool, pic's mission accomplished lel
>>
>>7147726
they nuked flash because it was old technology and they didn't want to update it anymore. Since it doesn't get security updates it has to be disabled in modern browsers
Your browser literally holds tokens to access every account that you use, it's unacceptable for a plugin to be outdated
Flash in the later years was extremely slow and the technology was outdated
>>
>>7147728
Yes, I know, I read everything and anything about that whole Flash "happening". I still look for things about it. It just doesn't convince me, that a company with a whole market in the palm of its hand would let that just "go". NO ONE does that. Literally no one. It took Microsoft a fucking trial against the united states of america to give up its market position.
The "technical" excuses are there of course, but not the logical business explanations. Whatever. Doing and finding content with that amount of diversity and creativity today is hard. Look at what happened with unity. They somehow managed to corner the whole indie market. Flash was unruly content making, it was like wild fire. Now you have to be an steam team player to have a place on the market.
>>
>>7147737
It didn't have the market in it's palm, html5 and unity were arleady up and coming. Content creators were more interested with YouTube and steam greenlight at that point.
I remember thinking how weird it was to still play flash games during it's final years, btd5 and btdb were prob the last relevant flash creations

I am a very sucky painter, but the point I want to make is that drawing is the main thing to work on here. Try getting comic books and just making studies from them, figuring out how they separate light and shadow, and how they stylize the features. I recommend the capeshit ones because they have heavy light and shadow, and those shadow shapes can be aped for painting. Mignola is a good choice for shadow shapes and simplified painting.

Her face looks quite lively and three-dimensional, but there are a few issues with her mouth, one glaring, and two subtle.

First, the Glogau-Klein points of the upper lip are not in alignment with the philtral columns:

https://static.wixstatic.com/media/a27d24_206bf7095692406c8f96d832ed484944~mv2.jpg

Second, the lower lip is just a bit thicker on the left side than on the right one.

And, lastly, the placement of the furthermost commissure appears to be slightly lower than that of the foreground one.

I usually shade by using a clip mask of some <100% opacity of blackish colors, and then do some highlights with some <100% opacity in whitish colors.

it doesnt make it look good enough though and i'm honestly not sure what i should do to improve shading pls help

They didn't "let it happen", unity and html5 are simply superior, flash was getting beaten by them as soon as they came out. Flash was still alive when those two came out and it immediately fell out of favor. There is no universe where flash can compete with the 3d of unity and the multiplayer capabilities of html5 just because it's slightly easier to develop

>what style are you even replicating?
That, anon, is a really good question lmfao.
Seriously, though, Im trying to replicate Miiverse's art format, though as for the shading techniques and little artistic details, those are things Im figuring out on my own, hence the lack of direction.

>>7147748
Damn, this looks really cool! Great work cleaning the shading and using the dithering, and the little highlights are sweet too. Also, feels nice your shading placement coinceeds for the most part with mine, that says a lot about me finally getting the hang of it. Also the fact you got her colors right on your own kind of flatters me lmao.

So that's the name I was looking for, "Dithering". I do have those brushes available in SAI, though I tried them for the Rosalina draw and they were missing this messy/textured effect to it, yours does too, which is not a bad thing per se, I just want something messier, or noisier. That's the main thing Im struggling with right now, how to make that dithering more interesting and deeper.
Knowing what I have to study does help a lot, though, I can look for dithering techniques and see what works for me. So thanks for letting me know!

As one beg to another - watch David Finch's two latest videos. Tl;dw: get How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way, find chapters about gesture and figure drawing, copy these figures since they've been simplified and broken down, so they're much easier to understand than Bridgman. Get comfortable with them and then move to Complete Drawing From Life.
I've been doing them for the last week and I've already noticed some progress.

It's way more sensitive and beautiful looking. Also I pulled it down for that photo. Looks better in my opinion since I only know uncut dicks. Cut dicks are disgusting they have a really pink color where they got cut and it looks unnatural.

But since most Americans are kike slaves that got circumcises, I feel sorry for you.

How do you guys "study"?. It's been like a year since Ive last drawn and now I want to get serious with actually achieving the level of proficiency I can be happy with myself, but there's too much to learn, im going back to the basics and actually doing the whole "Dynamic Sketching with Peter Han" thing, then I will continue on with the sticky, but meanwhile I also downloaded several leg images and references because I suck at legs/feet, did a self portrait which sucked and then continued with my current drawing(pic related), but I have no knowdlege of color theory whatsoever so I was wondering if I should just make a mess of my current drawing and "finish" it to practice, or wait until im done with tutorials of fundamentals on coloring. Do you guys just stick to one subject and grind it until you are happy with that or study and dip your toes on subjects you are still not studying?

Does anyone know of ways to immediately arrive at a collaborative space to create and draw in?

Int who’s spent years on fundamentals of anatomy construction perspective etc, and I’ve been motivated from the very start by the possibility of being able to collaborate with other people and share a working place. Actually, the idea of it appeals so much to me that it feels torturous to let days pass without arriving in this space.

my ultimate interest is in animation, largely for this purpose, but that’s a discipline that seems to require years of self-study to get anyone collaborative with. I’ve also been practicing graphic design due to the collaborative design studio environment, but am not sure if it makes sense to spend a lot of time on that if my end goal is animation.

I’m JLPT N1 and interned at an anime studio in Japan, but my experience of the environment was pretty much just warm greetings followed by silently working all day and being occasionally told what to do differently before everyone was enthusiastically thanked and let go for the night, before repeating the next day. The work was all just being told to do things that looked like other anime with references provided, and no knowledge of how one’s work was going to fit in to the project. At least that studio felt extremely isolating

If you make her super hot then a funny thing will happen, any horrors will be justified in favor of sexual "enticement". Some will like it, others will express disgust, but they will save the image anyways to enjoy it alone with guilt and fear. Isn't that weird and cool? It's worth a try.
>>

>Advice for getting over this anxiety?
Is that ink, bro?
You need to refine your sketch enough so you know exactly what you're going to do when you start the inking stage. The one you have there looks like a first rough sketch, or "brain puke", as Yuko Shimizu calls them (pic related has some examples of the first sketches of one of her illustrations).
Another important thing: you don't need ink to make finished pieces. Quite obvious, but I say this because I've been using a lot of graphite lately and it's relieving to know I can erase as much as I want to correct mistakes, specially with the absolute godsend that kneaded erasers are.

How’s this coming along? It ain’t finished yet, but my brain is giving me the doomer feels of just giving up on it.

Keep in mind, a lot of aspects about this was a request from a friend and I’m just interpreting it, like the weird skin painted face over the marble.

I also suck at hands and feet, plan on doing them last.
>>
>>7148677
Why would you give up when you are so close. Most amateur mistakes can be correct through observation, or so the YouTube man said.
>>
>>7148676
Not meaningless at all, you should try it.
>>
>>7148682
The problem is I know it looks wrong but can't identify the problem to fix.

I know I still need to do a proper pass of the shadows and lighting, to get the marble looking right.

I also need to fix her eye's, hands and feet.

Even with knowing that, it still looks wrong and bad and my brain is back-flipping into "just start again, but this time BETTER". But I know that yeah its close to being done, I should just push through.

I think I did ok with the pose and overall design, although making the joints look 'robotic' has been challenging as too much detail on those sections would over do those area's, less is more sometimes.

Any tips for drawing assess?

Despite loving all types of assess I realized that I can only draw flat ones, so I'm trying to remedy that, attempted a short stack and a tall bomb shell, I wanna try other ones too maybe some more masculine types

I think I'm finally learning the meaning of the word proportions, it's the sizes in PROPORTION to other sizes, you can't make the ass big without making other parts of the body smaller, genius

Compare the proportions. Look how in the original, legs take up like 50% of his height. Your own attempt shoulf start with some markings that more or less guide you with the right proportions. I had your same problem. As the drawing went on, I started drawing things smaller and smaller and the end result would be an abomination. Start from the bigger shapes, make sure to keep their proportions more or less similar to the reference pic, and start drawing the details inside
