Should I buy a TAP rig and build it up for fun? Already have a micro rig
>>
>>61440311
TAPS rigs are cheap and already have space for 7 AR mags with retention. theres 3 pockets on the inside that have a mesh.
i stuff my medical in the center pouch.
theres enough molleeeeeeee to put pistol/utility pouches on so you can carry water, nods/binos, multi tool, extra mags and not bulk up too much.

only thing ive needed was duct-taping some foam on the straps because it gets annoying after crawling in the woods all day with a full load and water.

Putting a GP pouch over double stacked mags is going to get bulky if you really pack the pouch. God help you if you throw a config like that on a plate carrier.
>>
>>61441670
NTA, but if I were to do the same thing I'd only put a map (6.25 x 7.75), compass, mylar blanket, (((cell phone))), and a Clif bar in front of the placard. Anything beyond that would spill into the sides or below the placard.
>>
>>61441999
>mylar blanket
usually only pros keep these in crucial places along with aquatabs or bic mini. post gear I'm curious
>>
>>61440078
Put a GP pouch in front of your mags if you want everything you have inside it to break after you go prone a few times. A notebook or folded up map is ok, but pens and pencils will break and chemlights will crack

Just a weekend backpacker. I know that if I lose my pack for some reason I'm basically fucked on food and water, and it's time to leave. If I need to spend a night in such a state, I'd like to at least have the blanket. I can also use it as a shock blanket if I get mauled.

What I described was the non-gun contents of my HPG kit bag. The main difference is if I'm carrying a rifle, I'm not carrying a pistol or a spare magazine anywhere.

Dude you write so much in the field that those waterproof notebooks are basically just a gimmick POGs buy at the PX because they don’t know what they actually need when they go to the field. You need to get a dozen notebooks and individually waterproof them in resealable bags because your $30 waterproof wonder will run out of pages by day 2
>>
>>61443460
>$30
Not even. I don't disagree with buying regular notebooks and waterproofing them though, especially guys just putting their kit together.
>>
>>61443460
nah fuck that it's way worth it to be able to just jam that shit in my pocket and whip it out in a downpour without worrying about it.
there's a $12 rite in the rain notebook that fits perfectly in acu pants thigh pocket and has way more than enough pages and even cards in the back for 9 line and fire support
>>
>>61440076
Yes. I wear one as my EDC, but they also work for heavier loads.
>>
>>61443908
Lmao you’re seriously going to tell me that you spend over $100 every trip to the field just in waterproof notepads?
>>

For eurobros:

Warrior assault systems has some new carriers, pretty good for pouches as well and some backpacks.

Clawgear for pants, shirts and pouches too.

DirectAction makes good stuff as well.

You lads have any propositions for eurobros?

Droms are by far the most durable bladders on the market
HOWEVER MSR didn't design them for use as hydration bladders and it shows. To make one work as a hydration bladder you need to buy the MSR conversion kit, and because they only make it for certain droms, you might also need to buy an adapter (it's been a couple years and I don't remember all the details but I had to make 2 separate purchases to hook a drinking hose up to my drom because it was a newer generation and at that time at least MSR only made conversion kits for the previous generation).

Once you have the thing set up, the way the hose adapter works it has a weird amount of standoff from the cap that makes it not play nice with packs designed to slip the bladder into a sleeve because of how easily it snags (works fine in bigger packs that just have hooks though). The valve itself also has a pretty goofy and fragile cutoff system that I'm not a fan of.
So yeah, really durable. I don't know anybody who's ever managed to pop a drom. But also there are tradeoffs that come from MSR's intent for the design and the weirdness of the ecosystem they've built around it.

Overall if I'm going somewhere and using a big pack I'll take the drom but for smaller packs my go-to is still the source zip-tops.

>>
>>61456682
I got a size medium and I wear size 34-36 pants (depending on the fit). Fits pretty perfectly for me, a large probably would've worked but may have been too big. You don't want the padded belt coming too far up on your front. As for the inner belt, just get one that's adjustable with a cobra buckle and any other features you want. It doesn't even need to be super rigid since the padded section is pretty rigid as is.

I used to have an old dpm one, it was okay. My understanding is that the right side mag pouches were only sometimes used for mags (role dependent), and often were more like a pair of gp pouches for candy bars and junk. Dont put your canteen in the rearmost pouch, idk what bong policy about it was but it makes it shit to sit down in. Best I can tell, first aid was just shoved in the top of one of the offset gp pouches; they don't seem to have had a dedicated ifak until just before MTP was adopted.
>>
>>61457646

Use your EDC belt for your IWB holster and then get some individual pistol mag pouches which clip onto a belt. You don’t need to attach a med kit to yourself for a shooting comp, just bring one in your range bag.

pvs5 with photonis xd4 tubes, also includes opscore carbon in aor1 (dont personally care but it's worth more money) and anvis mount included

>>
>>61461618
i was thinking of getting It and reselling, bc in the end I will have more money if I buy all and sell than if I get a discount from not getting the helmet most likely, it's muh opscore in aor1 so theres some ppl willing to spend some money for it
>>
>>61461988
Go for it if you want to sell it, personally I don't see why the opscore bump costs $300 when I could get a fma for cheap and works fine thus spoke /nvg/
>>
>>61461988
I'm probably about to do something retarded but it seems like a great deal honestly, it stings spending so much but I've been wanting them for a long time and for decent tubed duals it's not a bad deal, at worst I could resell them in the future and make back all the money.
ofc I'll try to bring the price down a bit.
he offers a 300 euro discount without the helmet but I value it more than 300 for resale value, especially considering that i would need an helmet anyway, plus a shroud, so it's not a real saving after I buy those anyway later.

i currently have 10k saved, plus 1.4k of stuff I'm selling, and another 5k I shall receive in the coming months.
so it's a non irrelevant amount, but still not crazy.
>>
>>61462091
the thing is that if I buy it for price X with the opscore, and sell it for 500, my cost basis is X-500, if I buy it without X-300, that's assuming that I can sell it for that much ofc, which I'm half sure of, at the very least if I take it in the ass it'll be 300, so the worst case scenario is that I'm even in the end.
at the same time, if I sell it I then need to buy a new one, but as I understand there are other ones that cost alot less and still perform the same
>>
>>61462146
or another thing I could do even, but I have to run the numbers on it, is to then sell the housing and one tube, and assemble a pvs14
>>
>>61462158
>>61462146
So try and get it without the helmet and buy a fma later

Hey doods I have a question. Babby's first plate carrier. Current setup:
>LBx0300
>3 panel open top front panel with admin pouch
>1x mag holder + 1x dump pouch on left side cummerbund
>1x IFAK on right side cummerbund
>Highcom 7sas7 MC's front and rear
>pic semi-related
Everything fits fine and is comfy, but despite having identical MC plates front and rear PLUS 3 mags across the front panel, the front of my PC wants to ride up and sit just above my collar bone. I have no weight on my back panel at all. Any idea why this is, or what I might need to adjust to correct this?
>>
Adjust the shoulder straps so the PC sits better on you
Also, ifak and dump pouch on the belt is more ideal than putting them on the PC. 4 mags is also pretty low, gotta pump those numbers up
>>
>>61469892
Do you think I should lengthen them a bit to correct the issue? They sit mostly in the correct location before I move around but after running a bit I'm having to pull the front down.

And I agree on the belt, but I'm honestly trying to get by without. I'm going as minimalist as possible.
>>
>>61469954
If they're only getting janky after doing a lot of movement, then it seems like they're not secured to your body. Tighten the cummerbunds.
Minimalist is fine for the range but imo when it comes down to the nitty gritty, it isn't the best. What's your intended use case? Just having fun at the range? Nothing wrong with that btw, but I wouldn't deploy with that setup

I might carry an extra pair of super light boots, or else sandals. Lots of extra socks. Socks get laced in MOLLE to dry. Sandals get used for water crossings and for easy terrain where boots are not needed, so the boots can dry while they hang on the outside of the ruck. No goretex in any of this. Socks are a mix of some fancy synthetic from Ellsworth, Merino Wool, and basic bitch cotton. I powder sometimes with Gold Bond, but the excess sweat can make it go to paste. I mostly use it for recovery during casual time. Don't forget to massage the feet. Treat any wounds with iodine, as wounds in boots tend to get soggy, and iodine helps with this. Tincture of benzoin is pretty rad, if used properly. Cut sticks to support boots upside down to dry.

You should buy neither.
There’s nothing heavy enough that you would put on a chest rig to warrant a ‘structural’ harness. You’ll have maybe 3 magazines at most and maybe some tiny little bits and bobs like a few batteries and a notebook. You haven’t specified that you’re military so you don’t even have heavy comms equipment or grenades to carry.

Buy a $15 chicom rig off eBay or one of those $10 USGI bandoliers for the 3lbs of gear you need to carry on your chest, you idiot.

I'll tell you the same answer I told you last time that you seemed to ignore because it wasn't what you wanted to hear- there was no one definitive uniform color or camouflage pattern for either side of the war. The North in particular often times wore whatever normal clothes they just had around the hut such as the black and/or blue pajamas and sometimes khaki for example.

I still don't understand why you're so bent up about nailing down one specific uniform for the NVA or why you think a video game is a historical source, and I especially don't understand why myself and two other anons that I remember told you the answer and you blew all of us off.

You can also carry two smart waters and dedicate one as a bidet with an attachment.

Cons:

I got mine used with everything for $70 to put on an old G17 that never gets shot anyways. I would not buy a new glock for this or plan to use one you rely on - disassembly takes a sec. and quite frankly I think the only real advantage it offers over a regular handgun is the ability to mount bigger LAMs for shooting under nods. The whole "3 points of contact" starts to work against you when you tense up while shooting and start throwing shots bc the brace flexed

I do think their silent tuck tab is nice. Probably the best implementation of a silent tuck tab I've seen is on the UW Gear pouches. The tuck tab is used when you have 2 mags in the pouch, and there's some velcro to quickly secure the remaining mag in the pouch.

Anyway, none of this matters. Nobody's doing silent assassin reloads out of their pouches no matter what kind of closure system it uses.

lel I find that hard to believe but you never know, tracking is usually through sight-visible field, in effect: light. But yeh if they were simulating some close range tracking I can dig it
>>
>>61483334
Not him, but distance is certainly a big part of the rub. Fear plays in, as well. I can tell that even a lot of dudes with experience in combat as a team have never been hunted by a team when they were alone. A man counts the odds and takes his chances. Maybe that close contact is never going to happen. Maybe it is.
>>
>>61483321
As a general rule you should always lessen the shine/noise of your kit regardless of what you're doing. Keeps everything neat and tucked away to avoid snags, improve ergos during movement, and be able to actually hear your environment. There's really no downside unless you want to be spotted by S&R

I dont have nvgs to verify, but does the IR mode of the MS2000 strobe leak any visible light to the sides when closed?

sometimes it appears as if theres a very small clearance between the body and the plastic IR cap that let's out a very small amount of light

Yeah anon you’re really getting a rise out of me with your generic uninformed post about which chest rig to buy. I’m literally seething right now. Wanna post some gear of yours or is it still sitting in your online cart?

Anon if someone is staring at a running MS2000 with nods they will be blinded by the whole strobe portion of the thing. If you are worried about people without nods, use your Mk2 mod 1 eyeballs to just look at it
You shouldnt use an MS2000 in current year anyway

They are gigantic, heavy and fragile.
You can get a vlite or even an airsoft vlite (its an LED in epoxy) and carry probably ~7 for the same weight without saying anything about the size and battery replacement of driving a strobe tube.
>But the output
I dont see you signaling air or trying to light up a canopy here bud.
>But dual function
Two vlites are 1.6oz, the batteries alone for the MS2000 weigh 1.6oz

tl;dr I need a duty-ish/edc belt to hold my shit- BUT I need to be able to whip the belt off in a hurry to drop my holster, pouches, etc- and I also need to be able to almost as quickly put the belt back on and rethread it through my gear. Therefore I can't use any kind of cobra belt or anything with a two sided buckle without needing to constantly take one half of the buckle on and off and prematurely wearing out the velcro. I also don't want leather. I also don't want a two piece velcro belt because desu those are fucking gay.

Speaking of gay, this first spear belt seems to fit what I need. Any other ideas for a basic, non leather, non velcro, non two piece buckle belt?

No they’re not. Anon clearly owns one so he may as well use it. V-Lites catch on shit and rip off without you even noticing. At least a MS2000 or Mantra can be dummy corded to your helmet or put in a pouch.

Just get one of the older style battlebelts and wear it over top of everything. What extremely niche situation is this for?

>No they’re not
Play a game where you look how many MS2000s are missing the switch clip that prevents them from NDing constantly. The 1990s MS2000 is older than most posters ITT and is subsequently far more fragile than an LED potted in epoxy.
>Vlites catch on shit
What are you smoking, they are like 1/4" thick
>Dummy cord
Yeah not like a vlite has a hole in the top with cordage out of the box
>Can be put in a pouch
And somehow the smaller vlite doesnt fit in a pouch?

What kind of thermals are they using in ukraine to spot guys at 1000+ yards?
Also what kind of anti thermal camp suits are they using? Ive seen mention of them but no one ever talks much about it.

>What kind of thermals are they using in ukraine to spot guys at 1000+ yards?
Anything 640 with a 35mm or larger objective lens which makes up the majority of the uncooled thermal market in current year. Lots of iray, lots of pulsar and lots of russian domestic cores.
My yoter-c (50mm + 640 res) will pickup dudes and cows at 2km+ easy. Actually shooting that far is the hard part.
>Counter thermal suits
Dont really work
Everything is either insulation or standoff
Insulation is going to cause you to heat up really fast when you move and you will be sweaty+hot when you stop
Standoff is hard to do when moving, easy to do when static.
>inb4 nuh uh look at this ghillie suit thing someone is showing off
Its standoff or insulation. Few people are doing glass nanosphere dopings and even fewer are making suits out of them.

Ukraine sort of a bad place for judging thermal performance since a large part of it is just big open fields of dudes shooting across the big open field. Unless thats your AO its likely not as much of an issue as you think. Still a major threat but the correct way to avoid thermals while moving is terrain masking.

>>
>>61485651
can you explain something in regards to the relationship between sensor size/resolution and objective size, also cooled vs uncooled etc
>>
>>61485873
so if you post gunz or other shit here, maybe illegal or on the edge, or wrong think or other bs, the pooolice can come and trace you back I guess right?
plus it's all saved on the various archives of 4chan, but do the archives also save the IP etc?
>>
>>61485539
>What kind of thermals are they using in ukraine to spot guys at 1000+ yards?
A big part of it is dedication to watching the screen. If you do not watch the screen, then the performance of the thermal does not matter. Almost anything will do if you are dedicated enough.
>>
>>61485980
>but do the archives also save the IP etc?
I believe that traceability is only for pre-archive.
>on the edge, or wrong think or other bs
Or anything that gets deemed illegal ex post facto. You had better believe that ex post facto is on the way.
>>
>>61485749

>>
>>61486097
rip

btw about post facto shit, just look at all the pre emptive blanket data collection that goes on with search engines, social networks, payment providers, all the sites you need to log in to, call towers, cameras that track your license plate or face, and a bunch of other shit I dont even know of, basically your freedom depends on the willingness of the government to not make whatever illegal that you did, but if it starts to become more and more tyrannical as it has happened in some places to my knowledge, like the truckers in Canada or China, they can just go look for your shit in their archive and fuck you over, and even if the thing you did isnt discovered by their data collection, the fact that life is digitized to such a degree means you can just be cut off, or your bank account frozen, can't be employed etc
>>
>>61485835
>reading comprehension
You will notice a MS2000 dangling off your helmet by dummy cord. Not that it is physically impossible to dummy cord a V-Lite to anything. V-Lites get slapped on anything with velcro and forgotten about or thrown away after use. They’re as disposable as chem sticks because a battery life of 100hrs isn’t worth the time it takes to even bother dummy cording it. I know your larp helmet only goes from your bedroom to your car to the flat range and back so stick with the V-Lites you’re shilling.

>Size
Talking objective lens size, not sensor size.
For this I like to use the video by AGM;
https://youtu.be/E_VML0LOYrc?t=171
You have a 256 res at the bottom and 2x 384 resolution units uptop with a 4mm lens difference between them you can see a bit more clarity and definition at even 4mm worth of res.
Most handhelds are going to be in the 15-30mmish objective range which is mainly due to the overall package size. Clipons and weapon sights are going to generally be 35mm-50mm. The ultra high res iray that came out the other year is a 75mm objective to fully feed that sensor. Basically just like daylight optics, more objective feeds it more.
>Cooled vs uncooled
Cooled units are the easy way to gain sensitivity, basically internally spins up to cryogenically cool the thermal sensor this improves sensitivity by providing a closer to absolute zero for the sensor. Vast majority of cooled thermals are mounted to helicopters and other large vehicles because power consumption and physical size. This added sensitivity is why their images are significantly more clear than uncooled units of similar resolution. Room temperature microbolometers are the core of any thermal you would ever hold or mount on your rifle.
>Resolution
256 and below thermals are probably best served for industrial usage, as you can see in the AGM vid above you dont really get terrain just hot objects floating around a void.
384 Okay for handheld, borderline okay for rifle mounted TWS or clipons
640 fantastic for handhelds, okay for clipons
1280 still not available in many formats but both pulsar and iray are pushing civilian 1280s out.
