That's a 300 mile day in the books. Today I learned just how much of a racebike my VFR is at heart. Howling along at highway speeds the engine temp was about 165°F all day even putting in close to a hundred miles in VTEC rev ranges to fight crosswinds and pass trucks (RIP in piss my gas mileage), but pootling along in city streets for ten minutes finding my hotel afterwards it jumped up to about 205°F.

I have never had to fill a new battery, why do only small batteries come like this.
>>
>>27589746
that sounds like some old man grumblings.

i can't find any good google search results for "why" manufacturers are getting rid of dipsticks but i would wager that it's because manufacturers don't want their retarded customers overfilling the engine/transmission or putting the wrong fluid type in, or doing any other maintenance on their vehicle.

i know for sure that they were first used on benz, bmw, porsche, audi's because it's a "luxury feature" and allows you to "check your oil" without leaving your seat but it's an absolutely boneheaded concept.

I've come into multiple situations in which i need to correct the oil level on a vehicle i'm working on post repair because it was low due to a leak and the cust. doesn't want the oil changed and the only way to check it is to run the fucking engine for 20 minutes with half oil capacity so the shitty sensor (which is probably leaking from it's gasket too) can give me an "accurate" reading of the oil level.

sorry to rant in your direction but "cloth fibers" sounds absolutely retarded and i don't believe it for a second.
>>
>>27589781
>run the fucking engine for 20 minutes with half oil capacity
I have dealt with exactly this many times when I worked as a tech.
And I should have worded it different as not "the main reason" But "one of the main reasons".

There are things like emissions faults due to failed o-rings, Oil contamination from rags, owner over filling ect. But we were told that oil contamination from checking with low quality rags was a genuine concern. I personally think it is retarded.

As well as the Luxury aspect of you never need to open the hood to check the oil.

Manufactures don't want the customer doing anything under the hood except maybe fill washer fluid.

I mean if someone is going to introduce contaminants into the oil system the dipstick definitely seems like the weakest link so it is a fair argument on their end but like you said, retarded.

Shit like that cracks me up because theyll get rid of the oil dipstick for an oil level sensor but then here comes jimbo at the jiffylube pouring oil into your engine that has one of those little rubber catch trays around the oil fill neck that's full of fucking dirt and sand and rat turds and various other organic material and voila, ridding the engine of the dipstick because of "micro cloth fiber contaminants" has been completely nullified.

If you can't get pressure in the rear or it's leaking you might need to rebuild the master cylinder and/or caliper

The Front is working like a charm. I dont want to ask my dad since he is currently under a lot of stress, he might have cancer and his company is currently restructuring a lot, he is the chief of the Selling dep. so hes working a lot of overtime.
>>
>>27590278
No I dont. It is a wonder I can start this thing and Do my daily drive without crashing.
>>
>>27590286
Hope your dad is okay in the end. Chatting to him about wrenching might be a good way to take his mind off the stress of life if that's something he likes doing. Maybe do some research and tell him what you're thinking of doing so he doesn't have to spoon feed you.
Anyway, you should be changing your brake fluid every two years at minimum. If you don't your master cylinder and calipers can get gunked up and fail early.
I change my fluid once a year along with coolant, air filter, etc.

What year is the bike? A 125 would be a great way to cut your teeth if you want to do more wrenching.
Here's a list of things you're going to have to do eventually
>Change fork oil
>Check valve clearances
>Change spark plug
>Change air filter
>Lube suspension linkage and swing arm bearings
>Check wheel bearings
>Change brake pads
>Inspect and lube steering stem bearings
>lube throttle and clutch cables
>Change engine oil and filter
There's more but that's what I can think of off the top of my head.
If your suspension is adjustable then I highly recommend researching how to tune it to your weight.
Don't feel like you have to do everything all at once. I have a check list that I keep adding things to as I learn about them then plan one or two things to do and research them to figure out what tools I need and how long it'll take.
>>
>>27590319
Will do that, but as far as I have seen it doenst leave a trail. I will also do Oil for shits n giggles, never done that before so now is probably the time. You said something about air filters whats up with that? Also funky Captcha
>>
>>27590326

This guy got his remapped and said it fixed it
https://www.r1200rforum.com/threads/jerky-throttle-respose.8065/

Sounds like you're gonna have to learn to live with it, which sucks. Both EFI bikes I've had (CB400 and CBR1000RR) have been smooth on the throttle. The only time I have an issue is on my work commute there's a long downhill section with a low speed limit. The Fireblade has a lot of engine braking so I need the tiniest touch of throttle to keep it at the speed limit. I get a little bit of an abrupt on/off feeling at this small throttle input but it's not that bad. Only happens there, no issues with slow riding around town.
>>
>>27590374
I guess it's not that bad all in all, it's just quite different coming from a carbie twin. It's mostly a problem at very low speeds but nothing a bit of clutch feathering can't solve.
>>
>>27590370
But that's who's in the pic
>>
>>27590130
Buy a goldwing with a CB module. Then you can talk to everyone on the road.
>(hilariously the 2018+ models still require a Bluetooth headset to do this)
>>
>>27590374
the reason ur 1000 is doing that is because it's actually turning off the fuel injectors on decel so you're using 0 gas. Great for fuel economy if you don't mind the engine braking
>>
>>27590397
Yeah, I can get the ECU flashed to turn that off but to be honest it doesn't bother me. I need all the fuel range I can get, it already hits reserve at 200-220km
>>
>>27590402
Totally fair. I've actually flashed my bikes before and asked to keep that fuel cut on decel because I like the mpg and braking, just wanted better fueling/ignition timing/radiator fan settings.

LS2 helmets are nice if you have a oval head shape, they are light and very breathable. But I wouldn't recomend them for touring, they are noisy as fuck.

The oil is $100. Filter is $35. (DIY prices). Plus it was done at the actual Ducati dealer.
Idk the full list of what they do for the rest of the break-in service, but it's most likely a nut and bolt check, top off fluids, software update, etc... So they probably just did the oil, looked at all the little paint marks the factory puts on the important nuts and bolts, then promptly charged for 3-4 hours of labor at $100/hr.
After the warranty runs out, I'm either going to turn it in for another one, or start dumping mods into it and doing the rest of the services (aside from the desmo) myself.
