Back to the topic of airing down, these brass tire deflators are nice. Remember you can avoid a puncture by airing down, increase traction, and ride more comfortably with the right tire psi.

Instead of having to crouch down and hold the valve stem, you can just screw on these auto deflators.

>>

Thanks. They're the exact tire that came from the factory on early 90s Jeeps. Sadly they discontinued them, I managed to get some of the last ones on the shelf. They changed the tire to the "Goodyear Gookrunners" or something like that. Ah well all good things must come to an end.

3rd engine, multiple misfires, leaking coolant, hole in gas tank, can't start without a jump, daily driven, regularly street raced, regularly off roaded, cold air intake, cat delete straight piped, pretty sure throttle body or fuel injectors are getting fucked, went to replace broken wheel bearing yesterday but the axle is stuck inside the hub like nothing else we put an air hammer on it triple jaw puller blow torch sledgehammers gonna just end up loosening the axle nut until it's freespin and driving it around until it comes out, I'm driving 200 miles in it tomorrow on the highway

Yeah I helped some kid out in a newer Tacoma that got high centered on a snow drift a couple months back and he was the same way. I pulled out the winch remote and he just stood there staring at me like I was his personal tow service. I told him he had to pull the cable and hook the shackle up.

No, they clearly wouldn't have chose to put those tires on from the factory if there were better tires for the application.

He was lucky I had my tools on me, I usually don't bring them with me forestry roads. Only thing I didn't have were the spark plug socket, which is why I put one in my kit when I got home. I realized if I hydrod my bike I'd have a hell of a time getting the water out

what does adding a bigger filter do

It adds a little extra oil capacity and the larger filter media area can hold more contaminants. I never do it personally because you don't know if the drain back and bypass valves operate at the same pressure as OEM.

Wranglerbros, need your 2 cents. Been waffling on a new car for a while now and have generally been a small car guy for the past few years (currently a flogged first gen Mini S, before that a Mk1 MR2 and an S197 Mustang) but used to drive a pickup in college.
Anyway, I have a Wrangler rental for a few weeks and thought I'd hate it but its growing on me immensely. The tiny windows and snug cab remind me of my old 49 Ford project truck and just crusing around lazily with the windows down is such a different vibe from what I'm used to.

Depends on the year. The JK post-2011 is well-rounded for a nu-Wrangler. I'd go for 2012 and newer to avoid the 3.8L. The PentaStar is a PentaStar but the 3.8L wasn't any better
>>
Can someone recommend me a decent basic/starter offroad gear checklist? I've got some straps in the mail and have a CB/antenna to start. The last time I was regularly offroad was as a college kid in an 02 jeep liberty with no gear to speak of.

Long story short, i had the opportunity to do some legwork and pick up an LJ rubicon in great condition. Came with an extra set of wheels and factory soft top. Gonna start with getting out near me (mn) and just work further west/southwest from there.
>>
>>27604857
Seconding this >>27604882, before deciding to go 06 and earlier, my criteria were: two door, 2012 and up, sourced from a state with no road/ocean salt, as stock as possible. I didn't want the 3.8L, didn't want rust, and didn't want someone else's wheels/suspension/lights/fender/interior fuckup.

I didn't appreciate it enough to take any pics and then one day the rear diff turned to glitter at like 160kmi. Sold it to a family friend as is and they swapped the rear axle and took it to like 230kmi before retiring it for parts.
>>
>>27605299
Yeah mine isnt the best. Mine also ate the rear diff after the vent tube came off and it filled with water. Its been a ok jeep. Just it needs alot of money to fix it right. Still never got stuck any where with it yet though.
>>
Alright I'll throw in my 2 cents on Jeeps.

Jeeps are "Light Duty".
That's not my designation, that's per manufacturer.
So it's all fun in the sun with a stocker that saw a dirt road once on the way to the mall.
But once mods have been thrown at it and it went down God only knows what trail, little issues start to arise.
And by little I mean "cracked frame" or "bent suspension points".

Jeep owners will link this post with pics of their rigs on trails and say "I've never had any issues" while also showing $10k of aftermarket components to fix/avoid thise issues.

I'm not trying to talk shit about Jeeps.
They're awesome.
But they're under engineered.

what diesel? I'm putting in a "new" 4.0 soon and I wanted to research putting in an Isuzu TD if this new one were to ever fail
>>
>>27614873
I wouldnt do Isuzu when theres so many different companies making adapter plates for VW diesels, and parts and aftermarket are widely available, as well as a bunch of different companies that will tune for you
that's what it is, a VW ALH 1.9 liter
I did a om617 in my Toyota, Mercedes diesel but that wasn't a good engine in comparison because it's so big and heavy and doesn't make as much power, but adapter plates are also available for that
you also can't get old Mercedes parts at all anymore, and VW parts are fucking everywhere

I converted this diesel to fully mechanical with no ECU, so the entire truck will function fine with no battery or alternator at all if you can simply push start it, which you can since I just converted it to a manual
>>
>>27614873
also ive been to that warehouse tons of times and had fires inside it, pretty comfy spot but drift fags blew it up

Yeah as soon as I drove up to it, all the tire marks gave it away
>>
>>27615043
>Will you be retaining the A/C?
yes, using the VW Jetta compressor, it won't fit in the standard spot so im making a custom bracket that mounts it to the passenger side of the engine, right under the turbo
you can see the beginnings of the bracket bolted to the engine with the magnetic level attached to it here

I assume he's planning on figuring out where to mount the turbo later and cutting a new hole for the pipe/flange based on those new measurements.
It's a rookie way of doing it when you dont have enough knowledge or exerience to plan from the beginning to the end.
Like pouring a slab for a house then going back with a jackhammer once you figure out where to put pplumbing.
It will "work" but will be less than ideal and lack a measurable amount of performance.

I guess Mercedes, cummins, Detroit, cat etc don't have experience then?

>>27616558
>how does this even work
like pic related, im waiting for my holset turbo to arrive then I can decide how the turbo will be positioned for intercooler hook up, downpipe routing, starter positioning, motor mount positioning and AC compressor positioning
all that will determine where the turbo lands on the log manifold

>>

the wrangler sport specifically gets the mexican-produced "gen1" pentastar which is also used in the charger and challenger and doesn't suffer from the cam oil galley plug bolts loosening up and is generally better assembled than trenton, mi plant engines.

Nta but the performance losses meme with log manifolds specific to turbo diesels is because you will have a significant difference in egt per cylinder due to some having better exhaust flow than others. It's pretty much a non issue if you do individual cylinder egt, but if you do single point in the collection just before the turbo as most people do, the "performance lack" is you having to dial back the fuel an estimated amount to make sure you're safe at the far cylinders.
It's not something you would worry about with a stock engine, and probably not a concern if you're building this thing with parts that others have already tried and tested.
>>
>>27618276
EGTs ain't a worry I just keep it under 1200 like my cummins (pre turbo) and that's it, I don't think about it past that

the log is great, cummins can easily triple their stock horsepower with the stock log, those TDI motors come with 90hp and there are people getting 250hp with the stock log manifolds
the log manifold isn't the limiting factor, I started this design with a 150hp goal, I selected the turbo, and injection pump based on that goal and designed the manifold to accommodate it, I've been collecting parts for this swap for years now and just finally started it

>>

>You're once again using the "performance" of an actual tractor engine to justify your choice.
uhh I'm using the same design as the stock ALH manifold, which is an engine that came in the Jetta and Bug, not a tractor, and I already stated my power goals, goals which I set long long ago
the intent of the swap was never power, the 4.0 made more power stock than the modified ALH, the intent was efficiency, reliability and increased range, flexibility when it comes to fuel like running on used oil and various other fuels

If you plan on sleeping in the bed or are going to be in and out of it a lot, it would be highly useful. I sleep in the bed of my tacoma and wish it had a step built into the tailgate sometimes. They had an optional one that would hang off the truck but it looked like something that would just get caught up onto shit.

What the fuck are you talking about?
>would see zero benefit from a better exhaust?
It's already been stated that the "log exhaust" is a fixture typical on the factory engine, meaning that the "log exhaust" itself has little to do with the power of the engine

Pouring too much to finish was starting to drown. Wire fuckery took longer than expected, had to do a bunch of fabbing I didn't anticipate. Just have to put the serpentine belt back on and test it out in the AM.

As a matter of fact, I do. Your mentality is the same that Fuji trannies have on /p/, it's not enough to be correct, you also have to post a picture for them to niptick and pretend they won the argument despite being wrong.

>"winning" an argument online is my highest purpose
Low vibrations detected.

I'm a bystander, not the guy making the argument but I agree with him and I'm glad someone calls you faggots out on your bullshit. Enjoy being retarded I guess.

I’m not seeing anyone else post their work.

Someone else post their work or shut up, this thread needs more doing and less bitching like a woman.

>>
>>27619324

NTA but I threw on a 250 amp alternator.
It came with a spec sheet bench test and is actually putting out 270 amps.
High output alternators are common in modern vehicles due to the massive amount of electronics- we've come a long way from 60 amp alternators of the 60's.

Torch never fails, I don't look forward to doing my LCA bushings
>>
>>27621608
Its a fuse. Low voltage, you'll be fine
>>
I was going to suggest torch earlier but sometimes it becomes an absolute mess.
I'd hole saw that one and chisel the chunks.

Mate it takes a lot less amperage to kill you
>>
>>27622054
It's not actually the amps that kill you, it's technically the guy who throws the switch while you're strapped into the electric chair.

I came from those forums they don't know. I've already checked for anything loose and repaired it. I can only think of something more internal but have no idea what.

Well this better work because cuz it'll be a massive asspain to go back to a regular battery after cutting this terminal off.

Yup random chinkers, all my burger 17s were too short to reach power steering bolt. Sure doesn't feel like 32ft lbs.
