Pulled my spark plug. It looks good. I will use photos as a baseline for future carb tuning. Now, if I go ride and it looks rich/lean, do I have to clean it before I check it again or will the char/burn self correct? Like if I go ride 10 miles, check it and see it's rich, adjust the carb, ride home and check it again, will it still have rich crud/lean burn or will that burn off if I corrected it?

I have stubby fingers. I find gloves that fit my hand alright are a little too long in the finger so it bunches up on the finger print. If I force my finger to the end I can tell that it does kinda work on touch screens but not practical for actual use. My lanklet bro has no issue. The best option I've found are gloves that the finger tips have slits and can roll back off the fingers like hoods

The gear requirement for my course specifies either a leather or denim jacket with at least long jeans. They also specify "rain gear". What counts as rain gear? Can I bring an old splash jacket to wear with my denim? The only other stuff I have is full blown grundens oil gear

>>
>>27606373
If you put on your gear, look into a mirror, and can honestly tell yourself "Yup, this looks like a proper riding attire for wet/dry riding conditions", then you have the right gear, no need to overthink it.
Riding schools that are really anal about the gear will normally have a stock of suitable gear that you can borrow/rent from them during a lesson.

I've been on my first ride ever today, 30 km from the guy I bought my bike to my home. Rode like a little bitch, the fastest I went was 70kph, but after few first kilometers I started to enjoy it a lot. I've got much to learn, that's why I got myself used MT-125. Even on such a small bike the feeling of acceleration is amazing, I never had a sporty car so event an 125cc is plenty quick for me. Thanks for reading my blogpost, just happy that I got my first bike (picrel)

Getting a first big motocycle coming from a car having previously owned a scooter.
I'm thinking 650, I'm not made of money and the "buy a low cc crap" doesn't sound like sound financial advice. I don't wanna have to buy a new one in a year.
What's some good models to start in this cc range?
I'm thinking ninja 650, cbr650r, cb650r or I could go for some china bike and save 1.5k.

2 questions

1. If I take the MSF course this summer and buy a bike a year from now, will the skills from the MSF still be relevant, or will I have to take it again?

2. Does buying a bike fix severe mental health issues like obsessive disorders?
>>

Simply mention zx4rr here and you'll get your answer.

Why dont motorcycle companies use bigger windscreens? In general I see a lot of small low windscreens, and obv naked bikes have none. Seems like a bigger windscreen would just be overall better for the rider, less cold, less bugs splattering on your helmet and jacket, less rain hitting you...etc. Would make the bike more usable in a wider range of conditions.
>>
>>27606608
650 not 600
also I don't understand what you guys have against V4 bikes compared to twins. I think something like an mt07 or a hornet is way worse for a beginner than something like a cb650r. Those naked twins wheelie way more than a v4, in fact I think if you stay bellow 6k RPM the bike is pretty tame

>>27606649
How do I know when the right time is?
>>
>>27606652
- v4 - inline 4

- naked twin engine bikes have way more torque which causes you to wheelie if you don't have good throttle control

- Inline 4 bikes due to have low torque in low RPMs so they aren't as susceptible to throttle mistakes at low speeds

>>
>>27606712
actually you can buy a cb650r limited to 47hp, which i intend to do. here in europe you have classes on them
>>
>>27606717
So your plan is to get an I4 that develops peak torque @ 8500rpm, get it restricted to A2 and "keep it below 8000rpm" because you're scared of wheelies. Gotcha.
>>
>>27606713

it is, then a year later or so I go to the dealership and they remove the restriction, if I feel like it

An inline 4 delivers power in a manner that is much harder to control for a novice. It revs faster, the power is much higher in the rev range, basically everything you'll need to learn as a new rider will be much harder on an I4 and if you fuck up - that bike will be way less forgiving. Wheelies are not an issue unless you're actually trying to pop the front, but on an I4 that's much more likely to happen, because as you're accelerating there's nothing for a while and then you get all of the power in a very short amount of time. The fact that the mt07 has more torque and it's lower in the rev range is the biggest benefit for beginner bikes, you have playful power at low engine speeds and if you fuck up a downshift you won't go sliding into the trees.

>>27606593
I started on a 150cc scooter, then a 500cc v-twin, now I can ride any bike and it's fine.
Buy what you want. I would recommend staying under 70hp. Something around 50hp can do anything you need (freeway up to 100mph, local roads, etc) while something around 70hp gives you no valid reason to power up to a faster bike unless you just want to.

Something like a yamaha xsr700, or suzuki sv650 would be my picks. honda cb650r is fine too..

Remember, there are plenty of riders who started on literbikes. There are plenty of retards who crashed yamaha r3's on their first ride.
>>27606660
a v4 is not an inline 4

>>27606593
Don’t have any sort of riding experience? Did you ride mopeds or dirt bikes as a kid? If so a 650cc with throttle by wire and rain mode enabled is doable. If you have literally zero experience riding something g on two wheels with a motor then I would really suggest starting on a used 400cc bike. You won’t waste money because it depreciates a whole $100 over the course of a year.

The R is infinitely better than the L, they’re not even the close to being the same type of bike, they’re both still shit though. If the choice is between either then definitely get the R, keep in mind that the R was never a road bike and if you plan to plate it then you’ll have to deal with the absolute headache that is street converted dirt bikes + dirt bike service intervals.

Listen man I don’t know your skill level, wrenching experience, or what type of riding you do so I can’t give you much advice, but I can say that I’d take a DRZ 400 again over either Hondas. A mid 2000s KTM 520/525 or Husky TE311/450/510/511 are excellent bikes too.

This is more of a thought experiment than anything since I've already got a bike to run into the ground, but if I wanted to buy a bike and have enough money to pay full price at the dealer, is there any reason I shouldn't?
I know that people talk about their credit score taking a hit when finally paying off loans so I feel like it's a toss up between financing with a bank for credit and just buying it and not having to worry about payments
>>
>>27607331
Kek
>>
>>27607357
It's not a thought experiment, it's just finances and something that has been answered thoroughly. The gist of it is that it's worth financing if you can invest the capital you would have spent and earn more from those gains than the interest on the loan can cost you. It's min-max shit, I didn't bother with it, personally.

Please help a n00b with his motor. My bike runs like shit. It feels either like it's choking out, or like there's a misfire in one of the cylinders.
Picrel is the carb: Please label the carburator parts and tell me about them.
Bike is a 2002 Kawasaki Vulcan 500.
Why I'm worried:
>>I've never touched a carb before.
>>I left it outside all winter and it's been under the rain a bunch of times.
>>I ran it too hard (to 100mph) and it blew some hose (let me see if I was smart enough to take pics; I think I did but my phones have a way of getting lost)
>>ran it with too much oil for a few minutes
>>haven't taken the carb apart yet, but it could be very dirty
>>also it sat all winter WITH gas in the tank
>>white smoke (steam?) is coming out of the holes on the top of the motor
>>also out of the exhaust
>>I wonder if it's a misfire in one of the cylinders? Or is it just choking
>>PILOT SCREW FOR AIR (#1 in picrel 3mm) IS ALL THE WAY OPEN
>>choke is kept all the way out

What I tried:
>>swapped the plugs; old ones were very nasty
>>changed the oil to the right amount, although it was already there
>>put octane booster in the gas and added new gas (old gas was in there all winter as I said)

Thank God the bike is metric
Decent motor for the bike is $700, but is there a way I can add a larger one in there, assuming I do a swap? This 500 is just not powerful enough. I really hope this is just a dirty carb. I bet when I open the carb, it's going to be filthy as fuck in there.

See and hear the problem on video:

One of the hoses on top of the carb came off when I did a max speed run up to 100mph. That's actually past the official max speed of the bike, so damage may have occured.

Why do so many custom bikes all use hardtails? I've been trying to shop around for a new rear fender for my shovelhead that I'm restoring/customizing, but I can't find anything that fits the stock fender struts except for another stock fender. All the cool custom fenders are for hardtails. I rode a hardtail one time and even with some very generous springs on the seat it felt like I was getting sodomized by The Thing from Fantastic Four. I don't understand why anyone would willingly subject themselves to that, is there any practical reason customs all seem to use hardtails or is it just because they think it looks cool? Or do they think not having suspension makes you manlier or something?
>>
>>27607420
Try running some seafoam through it. It's probably the carb,
>>
>>27607433
>I don't understand why anyone would willingly subject themselves to that

let's cool it with the homophobia ok
>>
>>27607442
Is it enough to put Seafoam in the gas for a carb cleaning? I have actual carb cleaner in a can as well, but I'm not sure what to do with it. Is there an easy way to check if my carb is dirty? Is it as easy as just lifting up the shiny dome cap thingy on the top right above where it says CVK?
>>
>>27607463
You'd need to take apart the carb to use carb cleaner. If the seafoam works you can avoid that headache. If it is actually the carb, in the future you gotta buy ethanol free gas. Ethanol is why carbs are such a bitch.
>>
>>27607469
I thought you could just spray the carb cleaner in without taking the carb apart? Is there an easy way I can see if my carb is dirty or not, before I proceed to take it apart all the way?
>>
>>27607476
Maybe. I've never tried cleaning a carb thats still assembled.

>>
>>27607476
If you let the bike sit for as long as you said and it had gas in it, and you started it, it's safe to assume that your carb is now full of ethanol cum. Just clean it out, and in the future only buy premium gas without ethanol in it. That shit is murder for old carbed bikes. You might be able to get away with it for a little bit but if it sits for any amount of time the ethanol forms this nasty stinky gloopy shit that settles to the bottom of the tank. The second you start it, your carb sucks in a nice full gulp of that shit

Gun-tubers started calling them that because it sounded cooler than first aid kit. We called them first aid kits/bags in the military. Anything less was a booboo kit.
>>
>>27607548
It's especially retarded because virtually nothing in a typical first aid kit is capable of treating trauma. Trauma is like a fucking gunshot wound or third degree burns or other things that have the capability of sending the body into severe shock. I don't understand how these fags buy a bunch of over-the-counter bullshit they could get at Walgreen's and suddenly think they're going to have the tools and abilities to amputate someone's limb out in the field like a fucking civil war surgeon or something. This, trauma kits are aptly named as they are supposed to be used to respond to whatever mortal wounds sustained during an accident.

It is still ideally the "first aid" they will recieve prior to extensive hospital provided interventions. In the miltary you have the medic trauma team provide extracts assuming you're a soldier worth extracting in an AO where medical teams can, without undue risk, reach. It's just semantics. Trauma kit/first aid kit are the same.

It is if you don't know what the fuck you're doing. You can easily fuck someone up much worse than they already were by trying to LARP as a combat medic and doing shit that you aren't qualified to do. Just a few years ago I had a neighbor unnecessarily lose a limb because some dumbfuck sheepdawg like you decided to slap a tourniquet on his leg after he'd been in a wreck and was bleeding and cut off all circulation. Please help, this will be my first bike. A brand new Ninja 400 has now been discounted from $5800 - $5100 because of the new n500. I found a used z400 2022 model with all the accessories needed and running at 6kish km in odometer. This is also owned by a pastor so the trust meter is pretty high.

The 650 is going to suck for hooliganism and trail riding, way too big and not enough top end power. The DRZ is going to really suck if you’re doing a lot of highway riding over 75mph. I’d personally recommend the DRZ and just avoid fast multilane highways for anything over 10min.

>>27607219
Bro you write like a fucking retard. The best advice I can give you is just buy the bike you think you want and don’t be afraid to sell it and try something else, it’s better to learn from experience than trying to listen to some guy on a siamese basket weaving forum.
That being said, I forgot to say that the XR650R is also deceptively heavy due to it’s somewhat high center of gravity, on paper they’re supposed to weigh ~290 lbs but that’s total horseshit, they actually weigh around 340-350lbs and feel even heavier.
If you want a good “light adv” bike that is extremely reliable, has high maintenance intervals, and doesn’t suck to ride then just get a DRZ. They’re not good for long stints on multi lane highways/interstates but they’ll sit all day (albeit a little buzzy) at 75mph. Do the 3x3, play with the sprocket teeth ratios, and for fucks sake do NOT put an exhaust on it, you’ll kill all the low end torque.

Ktm EXCs, WR450s and XVs are easily the best/most fun bikes you can buy, with the 520/525s being the cheapest and most accessible of the three.

I'm not in the medical field directly, but I was in fact trained as an EMT, had a state license (now expired), and worked briefly in a high crime area prior to landing a catering gig that paid three times the amount. Also never made any claims of being trained. The anon I was defending makes a solid point. Young radicalized men need to stop thinking that jist because a process is easy in theory doesnt mean they're a neighborhood hearo. Under high stress, even high quality training errs. Now take an idiot playing soldier/medic/doktor and you have a recipie for genuine negligence.

For gunshot wounds you need to pack the wound. Imagine a gunshot wound as a large cavity instead of a hole. You need the pressure inside to slow the actual bleeding, and a lot of material to absorb the blood. A tampon can't do that so it just keeps bleeding internally.

Generally, yes. If it's an extremity you'd torniquet it and if it's arterial you'd need to pinch off the artery. As with everything though, the best advice for people untrained is to call for emergency services, and follow their instructions until professionals arrive.
The point I was making is that any situation a person may think of using a tampon, sterile gauze is the correct choice.
>>
>>27607741
>>27607749
First of all, I thought tampons were blood absorbing. Second, there are two general types of bullet holes. Hollowpoint, and non hollow point. And unfortunately, if you get shot with no hospital to save you soon, you'll likely die. Either of blood loss, or infection. Or just plain organ failure. That's where the antibiotics come in. I would rather have tampons than nothing at all. I thought that myth was true I guess.

take off the intake and pull the throttle cable (engine off ofc), see if the discs are opening smoothly. Then if those are good take it off and see if the diaphragm is not ripped and can move the slide. You can use compressed air to actuate the slide.
If your plugs were fouled, the pistons probably have carbon buildup. I think Gumout makes a carburetor safe fuel injector cleaner and theyre the best product on the market. I would try this first before a deep clean.
>>27607706
The old harley engines look nice, the new one i dont like how they didnt mirror it. I'm more interested in the tuning potential of them, theyre is next to no tuning on the 975/1250/1250T engines at all. The panam makes 150hp off a vtwin, a few simple mods should have it in Vmax territory.
>>
>>27607801
>They won't save you if you did something fucking retarded
For any anons ITT you're at best looking at a charge of negligence for this, and most good semaritan laws have culpability for such instances of negligence codified.
>>
I personally see no reason to spend $500+ on an Arai or Shoei or some other premium helmet like that when my Biltwell meets the exact same standard at a fraction of the cost

>>27607802
basically I meant cavity impact vs straight through
I guess there could be other things like vacuum wound or vital organ damage and bone damage; I'm not a doctor. I was just under the impression that defense loads with expansion do more soft tissue damage than normal ones by expanding larger upon impact. Stop being a dick and join the conversation. You've already convinced me not to touch someone even with gauze. I wouldn't wanna be touched but only cuz if I got in a bad traffic accident I'd want you to let me die.

Exactly why I'd let you die. Because you might sue. Even if the paramedics weren't there. Not even if. But this whole discussion is pointless, a mortal injury from motorcycling can't be fixed by a mere first aid kit anyway.
>>
>>27607819
The best thing you can actually do is call emergency services and just do as they say. hollow points expand more consistently at lower velocities, but almost any modern round is going to expand and any bullet is going to make a cavity.

>ok and there's also ball ammo that makes an exit wound in a random direction,

No I understand that, although there are things such as grazing hits, non-mushrooming bullets (less cavity), specialized ammo, the speed of the bullet, etc. I understand how the impact works. Remember though, ammo is designed differently. There's all sorts of it. I guess some punches through bone better while other kinds destroy soft tissue better. Idk I guess. Go ask /k/ at this point. I'm sure they'll tell me everything I said wrong. You screenshotting dick.
Didn't come here to argue about this. I don't have a F-Aid kit, and I won't use one. The legal charges scare me off, as I'm a reasonably rational human being. Even if I was a doctor, the legal charges would scare me off. As people have mentioned, I could indeed kill someone on accident.

Apparently nobody at the office knew what a Moto Guzzi was and as soon as they heard "Italian" they just immediately went to one of their highest rates. After I talked to them a bit my agent was able to get it packaged with my other bike with full coverage for like $1000 a year, which still isn't amazing but it's way better than $4000

Thanks brah. It is the comfiest of shops. Yes it is spray foam.

>>27607891
Yes, heat and ac. It's less expensive than cooling a house believe it or not. The mini split ac systems are very efficient and the insulation is thick.

I might have to do that to my garage if you say it works so well.

tf is that red thing on the throttle?
>>

Spray with penetrant, hit with small propane torch, scrape with wire brush, repeat until all rust is gone. Then lock vise grips on stud and repeat penetrant + torch until you can turn it a little

Go slow, don't get greedy

It's a throttle lock.
It grips the throttle and braces against the handbrake to hold the throttle open.
I modeled and 3d printed it.
It works good enough for short hands free moments but it slowly loses grip and lets the throttle close. Not great cruise control but I like having it more than not.
Pic related is the first revision. It was even shittier.

Ah, I see. I thought it was some kind of position indicator for rallying so you could tell if you were at full throttle after your hands went numb

Had a drz for a few years and its good for fucking around in the bush. Went on plenty single tracks with it and its all you need. She also was my daily commute for a few years and it was alright on the highway.

dr650 because big cylinder means big penis. just overall better aftermarket. if youre a fat ass like me highway is not possible with the drz. like other anons said for hooligan shit probably go with the drz though. if you want an all rounder dr650 is a lot better.
