This cyoa would be better if it had 1/5 of the companions with 5x the description length for companions.
>>

controversial and brave opinion but ultimately correct. /cyoag/ will seethe over it but its true!
>>
>>92628680
This was one of the very first 'companion heavy' CYOAs, back in those days descriptions tended to be short for everything, the only exceptions being a few Island CYOAs that were up their ass about how scary the monster was, or pick-one one-page waifu CYOAs that might give you two or three short paragraphs.

What more would you want to know about them? There's already a brief but informative blurb about each, as well as a quote showing off their personality. Are they the kind of people (you) would hang out with?

I really feel like it’s the one that changed the game. You can point to a lot of authors like Bliss, Divergent, SDA, Imaginos, but this is the one that sticks out pre-Stardust
>>
>>92628874
I remember when Stardust came out and people liked to contrast them and how they handled everything.
>>
>>92628874
>>92628888
Did the author write anything else?

(Also, do you remember why the cyborg/bioborg full body conversion got dropped from the final version?)
>>
>>92628899
>>
>>92628899
>cyborg/bioborg full body conversion
What's that?
>>
>>92628905
In the older versions of Space Opera Refugee, there were options to ditch (your) real body and get either a robotic/cyborg one, or a custom bio-augmented one.

(I have the older version with those options . . .but not on hand.)
>>
>>92628935
>>
>>92628899
Honestly, I feel like authors weren’t really a thing back then. It came not long after, though
>>
>>92628526
Top Left > Middle Right > Top Right > Bottom Middle > Bottom Right > Bottom Left
Atlach-Nacha, Wendigo, Doppleganger, Living Armor, Cursed Sword, and Liliraune. In case you don't notice, I do love them "Mate till you fuse together" kind of scenario, sounds fucking hot.
>>
>>92628968
Oh well. Visually, Space Opera Refugee reminds me a bit of Exposition Prison and Fulcrum . . .although the writing has a totally different feel to those two.
>>
>>92629017
I have vivid memories of Fulcrum coming out. People tore that poor motherfucker apart
>>
>>92629020
Looking for the best build possible? Or just giving the author a hard time?

>>
>>92629039

>>92629032
Same kinda shit you see now. Good criticism levied in an autistic manner in addition to actual mental illness masquerading as objectivity. Back then it felt unique. When SDA got miles of shit, it felt like it was due to his own obnoxious attitude. But Fulcrum was the first time I really remember an author getting torn up up everything and anything, but it’s commonplace these days if not worse
>>
>>92629047
It's somehow oddly reassuring to know we've always been this toxic, and yet have managed to keep going.

Here’s the thing, the anonymous criticism here can be good. There’s a reason this harsh environment has bred the best OC, while other platforms continue to wallow in mediocre shit. It’s because people can be honest and brutal about a work of art that comes free of cost, except for the person who poured their time and creativity into it. But this thread has been here a very long time. Perhaps too long. And it’s often stagnant. Mental illness abounds in this environment and it takes a rare type to weather it while continuing to create. Look at the Entropist dude. First work of OC is damn good, but you can see his own derangement peaking through the cracks. He makes a few mistakes he shouldn’t have and boom, the thread takes something good and shits it into the ground. Whose fault is that? The author? The anons? It’s everyone. But it’s the only place that makes anything worth a damn, so I guess we just keep moving forward.

I can understand that. I was here for the 2020 skubwar over Planeswalker Rising, and I've heard that even Beri got savaged at one point, back in the day.

Reminds me a bit of my days as a librarian, actually. Ninety nine percent of the people were fine - even the ones that you'd expect to be troublemakers. But there was that tiny minority that seemed to revel in being as toxic as possible. . .

Oh well. It is what is. We just have to keep moving forward.

I don’t think 99% of the people here are fine, truth be told. I think almost everyone here needs a swift punch to the face, even if the reality check will fall upon deaf ears. This pressure cooker creates better art, though. There isn’t a single fucking author of note that’s come through here that isn’t demonstrating obvious instability. Perhaps they can mask it and can operate fine in society, but here, among peers? We see you. Broken, fucking retarded, but beautifully creative. Sifting through mounds of shit to find the few specks of gold that keep your art coming and make it better. The worst of us and the best of us.

To be honest, I'm not sure ANYONE is fine. The older I get, the more I can see behind the masks, and the more it seems like everyone is either broken (but trying to keep going) or totally ruined (but deemed "healthy" for having been forced into a socially acceptable role).

Most (in both categories) can function in baseline society. But there's a small percentage . . .it's like a cockroach somehow got a human body. Sigh.

Why are you surprised, Italics spent years and years shilling his cyoa, dedicating more time on it than actually working on Magi, if the amount of typos didn't make that very clear. Marketing is king even on the cyoa world, it allows for consumers to become fans even before a product is released and they're more willing to gloss its faults. With Redux and Italics penchant for attention whoring expect 10 more years of Magi, this is just the beginning.

I've been following along since release and noticed a decline in discussion over time. The first half of this thread has nothing to do with Magi Case and even right now it's slowed down. It's been fun and it will get mentioned for years to come but once a couple more builds get released I have a feeling it will be over by mid-May.

Italics will have other OC out by then and the attention will be on those for a few threads before everyone moves on. Shitposters might keep it going because their complaints about Magi Case ends up bringing discussion back again.

The problem that hits Magi Case builds hard is the way point pools are designed, and the inherent value of skills over items. You're almost encouraged to pick First Investigator and Upper Family if you want to minmax a hypothetical gigachad character, and trying to balance it otherwise leaves you with underwhelming trinkets. Skills that boost your combat abilities, mana skills and detective ability, versus. . a couple books, barely any firearms or good melee weapons (why not add some unique magical tools that makes investing into item based character a better pay-off)?

I hope Magi Redux allows for a more open-ended point distribution, like determining how much you get through your career before and after becoming an Investigator. It'll certainly help the diversity that already suffers from Spatial/Chronomancy mages raping any other option.
>>
>>92631711
I picked Upper Family because I want to be a noble and I picked First Investigator because I wanted to be a decent rank for my age, but I didn't want to be tied down as much as the Chief Investigator is (I wanted to appear in the field more often.)
>>
>>92631711
Also I said this before, but I think the item section should be a Relic section, considering the fact that some clans like Faber just use them as equipment.
>>
>>92631711
>the diversity that already suffers from Spatial/Chronomancy mages raping any other option.
From all the S rank builds so far there's only 1 Spatial/Chronomancy mage, they're nowhere near as strong or meta defining as you think.
>>
>>92631711
We already know this, it's been said a million times since the CYOA was released.
In Redux he already said he wanted to scrap the items completely and re-do them, and add additional sections that splits up skills that are based on what you were born with and what you studied. He dropped DLC because it would make sense just to add it all in the Redux.
>>
>>92631846
There's only like 1 at all
>>
All those Ford builds and only one made it to Hall of fame.
>>
DESU I don't know how you could determine strength. S is auctor level but the auctors aren't equal and if you could assume anyone is going to reach the peaks of their magic(sl given enough time.

>>92631846
Materialization/Mana honestly looks like a hotter pick, but something just tells me that not enough time has passed to see more spacetime rapist builds.
>>92631880
Sweet stuff, hope he fixes the many typos along the way.
>>
>>92631846
I maintain that my summoning/mana is the strongest if nothing else because its near infinite diversity and by relying on my summons I have no risk of myself being the fuckup I know I would be
>>
>>92631949
Some builds are written not very ambitiously or have special conditions like "Don't know their clans magic" that makes it pretty obvvious the writer doesn't intend they reach auctor level.
>>
Anything paired with Mana is bound to amplify your specialization.
>>
>>92632006
I think Ostane is underrated in the minion autism field, because they can also make monsters who can theoretically do anything, but have the advantage of not needing to fuel them with their own mana. The big downside being they can't summon said monster from anywhere and need to physically bring it with them, but if any clan ended up inventing pokeballs to make that easier it'd be Ostane.
>>
The real meta is elder adults. Young and mature adults have to grind to get to S rank while elder adults are already Auctors in 2024.

It's true though. The two builds that actually began as auctors are both older adults. Everyone else start as C or B class shitters that'd get massacred by them.
>>
>>92632101
in a way you could probably do something with mana magic as well, if you could "crystalize" a spell. Afaik all magic including monsters is just mana + intent meaning if you can get the intent to stick with it I see no reason why you couldnt stasis it. At higher levels with that theory in mind mana magic could theoretically be used to 'steal' spells
>>
>>92632136
>anon spawns in at the end of his career, missing all of his training and life experiences

I will never understand why you would willingly start as anything but young adult
>>
>>92632163
Auctor pussy.
>>
>>92632136
Expect that becoming an Auctor requires inventing your own Magic, while Archmagus is the title reserved for the biggest dicked Magi out there. It's a lot more feasible for a build to become a top of their clan and then some, then try to fantasize about immortality and one-shotting Reason.
>>
>>92632168
you can get that eventually you just dont start with it. By starting as a young adult there's no reason why you couldnt slowly romance an auctor you took as a companion and potentially get them earlier than 50

you aren't locked in a forever stasis where your only friends are the ones you take at chargen and you can never gain anymore skills or items, dont be a retard
>>
>>92632213
That's not how CYOAs work.
>>
>>92632118
Add in a strong Spatial spell that can bend the space inside to be bigger than what it is or something like that perhaps? This is assuming multiple mages of different types are working together on the project.
>>92632140
Yea, it can already siphon and manipulate spells so stealing them shouldn't be too far-fetched. Maybe I should have just made the spell Mana only instead of adding Universal bits to it.
>>
>>92632136
Auctors are divided into like three tiers though.
Relic Fused Auctors are living hacks. Magic Anomaly Auctors have special or unique powers that transcend normal magic. Lastly there are Auctors who created a magic which is the bottom tier Auctors with few exceptions.

helios, evoco, ford, and chronos? I'm not sure if being merged with whatever the timestream is makes him an anomaly
>>
>>92632271
>>92632317
Drac, Faber, Hagia, Nightingale, Ostane, and Yaga are Relics.
Ager, Atman, Bathory, Howtizer, Karrylicht, and Meirin are all Anomalies.
Aozdou, Edo, Evoco, Ford, Malivent, Ulster, and Yggdrasil are simply magic inventors.
Devil is unique.

If youre counting bathory as an anomaly then edo and evoco count too
>>
>>92632131
Are you saying 'anime' is one style? The images are clearly distinct
>>
>>92632350
Bathory is an Anomaly because she created a Blood Moon, an impossible anomaly, and became part of it. Edo is simply a dude who turned himself into a monster, and Evoco is simply a dude who fused with a monster. There's something to be said about the transhumanist aspect of what they did, but it's not Anomalous.
>>
>>92632223
This is why particularly autistic anons love super long cyoas with choices that could essentially be left out like pick your gender. They literally don't think their character can take a piss if rules as written doesn't discuss it
>>
>>92632362
Blood moon vamparism is just as apart of blood magic just as heteromorphs and true polymorphs are apart of summoning/hybridization. Therefore either evoco and edo are anomalies as well or bathory is not
>>
>>92632377
>Blood moon vamparism is just as apart of blood magic
Literally no other vampire has been able to do it, anon. A blood moon is a magic anomaly, that's the entire point of what makes her special and the Auctor. You just outright don't know what Bathory's deal is, and think she just became a monster, that or you think being an Anomaly makes you 'better' or 'more special' so you're arguing your favorite clan falls into that camp.
>>
>>92632390
>Literally no other vampire has been able to do it, anon.
And no other lich has achieved what greve or helios did, but greve is still a lich. She literally offers to teach you how to hit a blood moon, she's no different than evoco or edo in how far theyve changed from their humanity and thus become anomalies
>>
>>92632390
She's the auctor because she made the magic, not because she hit a blood moon. Reminder that auctor is just a designation for the first user of that magic and does not necessarily mean they are the best (but is the case so far)
>>
>>92632409
>And no other lich has achieved what greve did
Actually there's an entire council of liches like Greve.
>She literally offers to teach you
And? Your Auctor is offering to try and help you become an anomaly, that's cool. Did you think being an anomaly is Auctor exclusive? Elspeth's entire deal is killing her grandpa so she can become an Anomaly, anon. You also didn't address what I said, why are you so obsessed with trying to pretend Edo or Evoco are anomalies? Being an Anomaly doesn't guarantee you're special or better. Fucking Howtizer is an Anomaly and he's a fucking jobber.
>>
>>92632435
>Actually there's an entire council of liches like Greve
There is no other lich that has revived themselves in the same way as greve or become monateous like him, which is the exact same for vampires in bathory
>>92632435
>did you think being an anomaly is auctor exclusive
No, thank you for admitting what you said is wrong and that therefore heteromorph and true polymorphs count as being anomalies due to being the same concept as blood moon and vamparism (which is the same as being a lich, another thing counting as an anomaly). Arbitrarily excluding them whem they meet ypur own criteria makes you look like a retarded hater
>>
>>92632484
>There is no other lich that has revived themselves in the same way as greve
The entire point of a true lich is they can revive themselves, anon. He's not unique.
>Thank you for...
You're a dumbass. Monsters are not anomalies. Becoming a monster does not make you an anomaly. Why are you so obsessed with trying to make your favorite Auctor into an anomaly? Ford is stronger than half the people on that list and he's just an autistic robot.

every lich is different, none are like greve so far. so vampires are... exactly like liches. I accept your concession on this point since you dont know what liches are
>Monsters are not anomalies. Becoming a monster does not make you an anomaly.
As per bathory, helios, and galileo being considered anomalies, merging with whatever magical phenomena does make you an anomaly per your own critera. Why do you insist they dont when they meet the same standard as other anomalies

The real list is:
Relics: Drac, Faber, Hagia, Nightingale, Ostane, Yaga
Anomalies: Ager, Atman, Bathory, Edo, Evoco, Howtizer, Karrylicht, Meirin
'Normal' People: Aozdou, Ford, Malivent, Ulster, Yggdrasil

>As per helios

>Merging with whatever magical phenomena
No, merging with something that is an ANOMALY makes you an anomaly. Monsters are not classified as Anomalies in the CYOA, there's a reason the department is Magical Anomalies AND Monster Activity.
>The real list
Nah bro if becoming non-human makes you an Anomaly then everyone but Ulster and Yggdrasil are Anomalies.

Monsters were made by Creation in the material world to kill magi for betraying it. Enigmas are entities from a higher order reality (closer to Creation) who see humans as kin and want to help them.

They literally cannot and the ones that seemingly can have to jump through hoops and take longer to achieve it. Look at how different magic achieves immortality. Some have to use a constant resource like Rune magic while others have to keep doing it like Ager that has to rewind time over and over or Ford who has to build his bodies. Then you have Faber who doesn't have an immortality gimmick that is known or multiple ways like Nightingale who either heal their aging conditions or replace their organs through homunculi but still remain physically old.

>>
>>92632983
It's weird. The only thing that comes to mind why he would use leylines is it implies leylines are more powerful. A battery has it's used for a certain period of time before running out but a leyline is a grounded connection. Like ethernet connection is going to be more reliable than Wi-Fi on average. So either I missed something, Italics meant catalysts, or Ford is somehow using Mana magic. It did mention it was fake/proto as well, but it still starts to breech into using multiple magic types.
>>
>>92633072
>The only thing that comes to mind why he would use leylines is it implies leylines are more powerful
well yea, a catalyst is a battery whereas a leyline is a battery, a leyline wont run out and the only limiter is how much it can pull out at a time as far as I'm aware. If you can make mobile leylines inside a device, there's no reason you shouldn't
>>
>>92633025

It’s not impossible for Ford to be drawing on every power source he can think of or create, since sufficiently advanced Materialization can theoretically mimic other magics better than even Ygg. Can he condense mana into mana crystals or batteries through tech? Probably. Can he wirelessly receive mana from some sort of storage? Probably. Can he also be powered in mundane ways? Probably. The bigger question is never what is a mage capable of because the answer is everything, the question is what would a mage do given their character. Ford is a huge autist, so I assume like most auctors he’s impenetrable from every angle except one overlooked aspect where Reason holds strong and that’s the aspect you would need to one-shot him. And you’ll only get one chance. And you better get it right.

>How are Battlemages a psyop?
Political power is a zerosum game, if a new group attains some power, power is removed from somewhere else. The traditional magi centers of power are the power structures of the individual Clans, administered by auctors and archmagi. Ordo is a newer center of power, but I think we can accept that some umbrella organization was necessary to coordinate the Clans. Equalists and Battlemages are new growing centers of power, and this power is being drained mostly from the Clan hierarchies.
We are already told the Battlemages are well-organized, they have a strict military-style internal hierarchy, with officers and subordinates. This hierarchy exists outside the Clan hierarchies, commands which travel from top to down in this hierarchy are the acts of a power center seperate from the Clans. We can safely assume Battlemages don't recruit magi whose alternative would have been joining Equalists, and Equalists don't recruit magi whose alternative would have been joining Battlemages, instead they both recruit from people who would otherwise follow the party line of the Clans. Thus they are symbiotic. Equalists and Battlemages are a new axis of a new ideological spectrum, planted to draw in people: Battlemages (as an organization) benefit from the successes of Equalists (even as the individuals within it might not see it in that light), and Equalists benefit from the successes of Battlemages, the ones losing out from this mutual support of validation are the older centers of power - the Clans and the Ordo. It's a classic con that presents you with two "opposites" that leave any third option seemingly "indecisive" between them and thus impotent, when in fact they were created for that exact purpose.
>>
>>92633224
Counter: catalysts are needless attachment doomed to ruin and only burden you.
>>
>>92633224
Just make a stronger body that can handle the strain of more power.
>>
>>92633254
Just make most of your catalysts disposable and get rid of them when they are dry.
>>
>>92633238
>The traditional magi centers of power are the power structures of the individual Clans, administered by auctors and archmagi.
Battlemages want to keep all this. The entire purpose of the Battlemages is going "Hey, our clans are literally dying out because we don't breed, the non-magi and Anti-Magi are getting stronger by the day, and Reason is increasingly locking down the power of magic. We should, instead of hiding, conquer them so we don't die out."

This idea that nothing should ever change or reform because your enemies also want change and reform (despite what they want being diametrically opposed to what you want) is the most retarded fucking standpoint possible. The mindset that'd lead to humans never advancing from hunter-gathers because you think "we should replant these berry seeds and come by here next year" is inevitably going to lead to the victory of veganism.

He says that but all the lore in the CYOA keeps pointing out how what magic can do is increasingly restricted by Reason, like how you can't swap clan anymore.

right but thats not weakening magic, its constraining it. Its becoming harder to do, but not becoming weaker overall

This is a semantics argument as far as I'm concerned. 'Constrained' and 'weakened' are the same thing in this argument. Magic is being 'restricted' if you feel autistic enough this is an argument you want to have.

>>92633466
its not semantics, it would be accurate to say Magi are being weakened since magi used to be able to use multiple forms, but magic itself is no worse for wear

As others have said, Italics is clearly thinking in terms of raw power and not in terms of flexibility. However, I think there’s an argument that forcing Magi to stick with Clan magic forces them to further develop said magic and specialize. In that way, perhaps, they’ve grown more powerful from being forced to commit

I don’t think it’s silly. Most people go through their lives not developing or taking advantage of their natural talents. Sometimes just surviving is the best we can do.
>>
>>92633581
>Wasn't it said that most magi live in Chaldea now?
All your companions have jobs/lives outside of Chaldea so that doesn't seem to indicate it at all.
>>
>>92633581
Most of the headquarters are in Chaldea and magi do live there as well, but clans have settlements all over the world and live all over the world among the muggles. I'm not in either of your arguments, just adding that correction. Continue.

I admit, I did find that confusing when I got to the lore document. It completely changed how I understood the society given the information I’d retained thus far and I’m still not sure how it makes sense given many companion descriptions. But I wasn’t about to read that whole fucking thing twice

Worth noting that even inside of them, muggles are the main population and you have to hide your magic and cater to them.

20% of Japanese kids to cram schools, 75% of Korean kids. So the kid puts immense effort and time into his studies.
And his reward?
He can be a doctor!
And he graduates, and the doctor's job is so hectic and shitty that he has no hours in his life left to really live, and he kills himself due to overworking.

So the reward for spending your best years on study are mostly just "keeping up with the other good kids".
The rewards for commiting yourself to studying in real life are mediocre, but the rewards for commiting yourself to magic in magi case are absolute huge, I think the reward should make a huge difference there.
>>
>>92633663
Magi are still human, despite what they and anons might think. I’d argue that it’s a theme throughout the work. The most powerful of auctors are explicitly held back by human emotions, while certain Clans have notably improved by learning from normies who naturally had to develop differently. Some of the biggest failings and most heinous acts detailed come from a very human place. The biggest thing keeping the two populations distinct, in my opinion, is the eternal war of Creation and Reason with the anti-mages helping to maintain the rift.

>while certain Clans have notably improved by learning from normies
Ford and Nightingale haven't 'improved', they're a hot mess.

I scrapped most of my imagebuild and will just do a quick loose improve of the text here and now. I tried but there's not enough time for a full image build :(
First I'll give a brief outline of all three members of the team, which may seem a little barebones, but afterwards I'll write out some story that can flesh them out.

Magi Case, 3 Characters in the MAMAU.
>Jasmine Aase Ulster
>22 Years Old
>No previous employment
>Senior Investigator
>Branch Family

Alright she's very high class, well socialized in high society, people who keep an eye on younger Magi know her name. She decided to join BISA, which her family was pleased about. It's prestigious, and they have a long history of being top notch members of the Rogue and Criminal Magi Investigation Unit. In the academy her peers hung on her every word. She would openly mock those who she disliked, have her underlings do her work for her, and ruled the class. When it counted in exercises she proved herself by casting Runic Magic both quickly and creatively.

Her family came to her graduation from the Academy, ready for her to continue the family legacy in the Criminal Magi Unit. To their surprise, she was announced as moving on to the Magical Anomaly and Monsters Unit. Her family was shocked and outraged, and BISA quickly promoted Jasmine to Senior Investigator to soothe their wrath. What Jasmine has kept from her family is the fact that she was not assigned MAMAU - she requested to go there. Why? It's a mystery...
>Field Leadership
>Charming Appearance
>Formal Connections
>Intimidation Factor
>Magic Cultural Studies
>Martial Weaponry
Most of these are self explanatory. I'll mention that she carries a rapier with her and is proficient in it, it's a family tradition to be trained in one. As for Magic Cultural Studies, while she has brushed shoulders with all sorts of elites, she hasn't seen much of the /real/ world herself.
>>
>>92634123
I'd be dead twice over if not for modern medicine, so I think it's pretty fucking good.
>>
>>92634578
Has anyone making these image builds got a template or know what background image Italics used for the companions? I wanted to make mine look authentic.
>>
I'm so tired of Magi Case
>>
>>92634609
No I just made from scratch, sorry
>>92634578
I'm making up names on the fly btw they'll change later
>Theodora Shinsengumi Meirin
>20 Years Old
>Trained all her life in da dojo
>Magi Investigator
>Upper Family

She's lived all her life in the dojo working on her Qi, she's enjoyed it very much but is pretty sheltered. She wasn't sure she wanted to leave the dojo but her father insisted that she go join BISA and bring honor to their family name. She was a perfect student, meeting the challenge and discipline with ease, to the point that most of her peers were intimidated with her. In reality, Theo is just awkward and a little confused about how to interact with the people here. She finds them strange, loud, undisciplined. Since socializing wasn't on the menu, she used her spare time to learn more about this strange world, eventually settling on MAMAO as a good unit to allow her to travel and learn.

While most people in the Academy Theo only found strange or too noisy, she cultivated a strong dislike for Jasmine, paying close attention to how she was spoken down to by her, and seeing how Jasmine commands other people. Theodora does not have a short temple, but Jasmine tests her limits.

>Combat Veteran
>Martial Artist
>Escape Artist
>Exceptional Observation
>Instinctual Survival
Just basic things she has from growing up in the Dojo ya know.

A few things just to note.
1) This is all AI slop art, sorry if it looks awful
2) You might notice that a more Asian looking girl is from the northern clan Ulster, while a blonde haired girl is from the Asian clan Meirin. This isn't a mistake, I just found the idea of an Asian martial artist to be boring, so I switched it around.
>>
>>92634689
>Monkey Dee Edo
>20 Years Old
>Previously a freelance courier
>Magi Investigator
>Lower Family

His family matters very little in the Edo clan and are not powerful mages. They didn't pay attention to Monkey, and he was always wandering around Africa on his own messing around. Became infatuated with monsters, especially lowly ones like giant frogs or slimes or bats. Wants to join MAMAU to see more monsters, simple as.

He has a lot of experience socializing, as he used to travel over and talk to many people as a courier. Despite his experience though, he just can't help but get overexcited and freak out about monsters, causing people to feel uncomfortable around him. He met Theo in the academy and the two became friends owning to the fact that he wasn't intimidated by her, and she was willing to tolerate his eccentricities. They also bonded pretty closely over their dislike of Jasmine.

I can't be assed to go through the personal traits list again, but just imagine a bunch of monster related things here yeah? And maybe criminal connections?
>>
>>92634559
>Noo you can't use your magic in respect to your powerlevel

>>
>>92634801
>Dorotheus

>From an extremely high placed family
>Has no magical talent
>Has no particular skills
>Has no ambitions
>Wants to live a mundane life as a librarian, a job usually reserved for the lowest of lower family servants
There's a reason nobody married that girl.
>>
>>92634751
Whoops I forgot the picture.

Anyways, everybody graduates, they report to base. They both thought they did well enough that they were allowed to work cases independently. Wrong! Turns out, due to such high fatality rates in the unit, everybody has to work in squads. Here comes your new squad leader.
>"Hey bitches, nice to meet ya! I'm boss now."
The administrator cringes at this, but says nothing. Theodora and Monkey exchange a look, is this some sort of joke?
>"Yeah ... we kind of already know you."
>"Huh? What's that supposed to mean?"
Jasmine tilts her head innocently.
Monkey throws his hands up in outrage
>"DUDE we just spent four months together in the Academy!"
Jasmine looks between the two of them and breaks into a grin
>"Ohhhh! Right, you two! I must not have recognized you in your cute new suits"
She reaches over and fiddles with Theodora's suit. Theodora steps back, perturbed.
The administrator steps out to let them get to know one another. Monkey stops holding back and freaks out, trying to wrap his head around how this could have happened. Jasmine gives a pout and asks what's wrong, but her eyes are smiling.

I'm thinking the first case should go very roughly, with them stepping all over one another. Monkey and Theo are brought together further by Jasmine hatred, but they try to chase down a baddie and end up running into one another or something. Jasmine finds this funny, not caring that they let the guy get away. Jasmine assures them that he won't be able to hide for very long.

The basic idea for what happens next is that they find something they shouldn't. Something the government is trying to cover up perhaps? They're both shocked when Jasmine hops the fence and continues investigating, but follow through.
>>
>>92634818
She was doing extremely well with an enigma cult before being pulled from it. Also I think getting fucked by an eye slug would demotivate anyone.
>>
>>92634857
>She was doing extremely well with an enigma cul
The thing is, her job in the cult was writing poems, that's got to be the lamest fucking 'talent' ever.
>>
>>92634842
They solve the first case but get caught in the process trespassing on something they shouldn't have. They are brought back to base where Jasmine takes responsibility for trespassing in an arrogant and belittling matter, calling the two peons who are too scared to disagree with her orders. The boss takes Jasmine into his room and screams at her. He says that she only got her position because of her family but that it doesn't matter to him and if she keeps fucking around he'll make sure she's so humiliated her family will want to disown her blah blah blah. Theodora and Monkey hear the general yelling from outside, though they can't hear specifics. Jasmine takes it. She walks outside, her eye twitches, she is unhappy.

I am hungry and want to go make food so I am stopping here but general gist is that she continues investigating this government coverup shit anyways, Theodora and Monkey agree that she is a bitch but they have a bit of respect for her, the team is formed, the team will bond, the team will thrive.

Jasmine has connections, a lot of knowledge, but very little actual experience. Monkey has the most experience but he's a weirdo who is unable to apply it. Theodora is highly capable, intelligent, skilled, and very uncomfortable about most things. Together they will step on one another's toes or balance eachother out. I will now go eat.

Yes and then another cyoa will take its place and you will cry and complain again until a CYOA you like is the popular one and then you will see yourself in other anons repeating the same things you are. It's a cycle of life for this thread, get used to it.

Is it a hypocrisy, as a meat eater, to abhor ill treatment of livestock?

Ideally, all the animals I eat would live a full and rich life before being gently slaughtered for my sustenance.
>>
>>92636659
absolutely not - eating other animals is not cruel, it's a fact of life. People don't have to engage in it but they should equally consider other facets of their diet. There's a certain balancing force in actual human interaction with domesticates that is absent from industrial farms - even on a purely selfish level, surely most people would want to consume (literally form their body from) healthy, well-treated livestock. it's just the crazy order of the world
>>
>>92636659
There's nothing wrong with eating meat and there's nothing wrong with wanting animals to be treated well before they die. It's a sign of enlightened morality to accept your own nature (you are a predator) but to engage in it in the most humane way possible (animals should not suffer unduely before they die.)
>>
>>92636793
Cruelty is a fact of life as well. Even the smallest children enjoy cruelty against insects. As they grow up, they are sent to school by an inviolable decree of the government, wherein they develop their cruelty to a more elegant and sophisticated form, applied by complex social means. When I taste meat, I want to know for a fact that this animal lived an Auschwitz tier life, suffered immensely and immeasurably, and was then cut to pieces. I want the soul of the animal to watch me from animal hell as my intestines convert its former vessel to literal shit, which is then flushed down into the sewer to join the shits made of the components of its friends.
