>>97864796Probably some ridiculous clan tank.
>>97864796>>97864811With a low-pressure howitzer and two machine guns, you might as well just stat it as as Quad BA.

>>97865979So you're gping to keep going with the idea that multiple people can't fight over the same resource rich world? Ooook. You're retarded.
>>97865986When you have thousands of inhabitable worlds resource wars are fucking retarded.
>>97865979>>97865893It makes sense in the early Dark Age for battles to occur mostly on a few resource rich and/or tactically important worlds such as those with mech factories or working HPG stations as that era was focused on the RotS Splinter Factions and the Prefectures. These breakaway factions could not take all of Republic space but they could take key worlds and systems (Addicks, Northwind, Irian etc). But (You) are baiting and thus won't care about this/come up with some stupid argument to deny the validity of this statement so go on. Amuse me.
>>97866021Resources aren't the limiter in Battletech. Advanced Infrastructure is, especially Advanced Infrastructure in locations with strategic importance or generally give you prestige to have under your banner.
>>97866021Addicks has over ten billion tons of oil already being harvested with the infrastructure required to do so in place. It's retarded to think people wouldn't want that roflAlso (You)'re bait is growing stale. Find something new, anon. This is dull now.
>ubiquitous fusion technology>a single Union class dropship outputs enough power to supply the entirety of AD 2026 human civilization >still fight over oilThe Terran Alliance genemodded everyone to be retarded and/or schizophrenic in the 2200s.
>>97866069A ton of vehicles still run on ICE engines. Probably a lot of fixed infrastructure too. In the shit end of the dark age, those ICE vehicles are a huge bulk of your military. They must be kept functioning.
>>97866069
>>97866069>>97866073Fusion engines aren't free, plus you need refineries for the organic chemistry industry as well - which is absolutely essential and non-negotiable if you're trying to enjoy your 20st century living standard.
>>97866078Evergreen
>>97866105>Fusion engines aren't freeNeither is spinning off a crude drilling industry that realistically nobody anywhere should have the know-how for, given that with fusion technology your can just print hydrogen out of water, or hydrocarbons out of whatever.
>>97866069Nuclear fearmongering is bad enough with the Communists fucking up boiling water in Chernobyl. How bad you think it is after the nuclear throwdowns pre-Ares Convention, then in the First and Second succession wars?
>>97866115I'm pretty sure the oil industry will have continued to exist as long as people are still using plastic. Your nuclear engine isn't going to be conjuring plastic out of the plastic dimension.
Should BT have a time skip so tech can actually advance?
>>97866178
>>97866178No. The timeline shouldn't have even advanced beyond 3051 at the latest in the first place.Battletech the setting is joined at the hip to battletech the tabletop game. How does making technology better improve the tabletop game? How do you do that without breaking the tabletop game?
>>97866197It's pure bloat too.A 1500BV mech with medium lasers is just as good as a 1500BV mech with with heavy medium quantum pulse variable speed hyper lasers.
>>97866197When everything is just a sidegrade. It doesnt sell the whole "tech has advanced" thing. Hell, current era mechs dont do anything that a mackie cant.
>>97866115Anon, we've been drilling for gas and oil for 2000 years now.You can always do it better, but getting started isn't hard and crud is absolutely essential for any type of biochemical industry, which is the industry that sits upstream of everything.
Finally read through the basic and personal-scale mechanics of this game. (Didn’t read up on the big section covering mech-scale mechanics, because I already know my local group would insist on switching to TW for mech combat) and it’s…Different. For one thing, apparently it doesn’t track money. For most personal-scale weapons and items, it just assumes you have the C-Bills for it (unless it’s particularly exotic, or just something one wouldn’t normally find in the locale, then a skill check might be required)However, when it comes to buying, customizing, repairing, or rebuilding “hardware” (I.e. mechs, combat-vehicles, personal vehicles, aerospace vehicles, etc…) it’s more like very early D&D, where you have to effectively spend XP, the same XP you need to spend to upgrade your character’s skills and attributes. Even salvaging mechs from the opponents your character defeated still requires paying XP to salvage it, at a discount, but still, and more XP to repair it.Which I suppose does mean the game recreates the ramshackle nature of mechs from the succession wars since it’s forcing players to choose between trading up to the best mech of the era, or just keeping your current mech in top condition, or having a better skilled pilot. Because if all these are pulling from the same resource pool to make happen, then players are going to have to make some hard choices. But on the other hand, if your character started the campaign as a rookie then likely their starting mech is probably a light or maybe medium mech and I can imagine that some players may find having to pilot a bug mech frustrating. And in places requires the players trust that their GM is trustworthy to work right (for example, how much health is restored by a successful medtech skill check is completely decided by the GM)Anyone actually play this to say if these things end up making for a fun experience? Or if they become a point of contention?
>>97866301I mean yeah, it's a mech game - the mechs are the investment, the pistols and machine guns you carry are just fashion statements.
>>97866301>And in places requires the players trust that their GM is trustworthy to work rightThat's roleplaying games in general tbdesu,
>>97866178We already have three time skips that have caused nothing but problems. One of which is a "swallowing a spider to kill a fly you swallowed earlier" situation.
>>97866221>When everything is just a sidegrade. It doesnt sell the whole "tech has advanced" thingThey learned a lesson from how precarious clantech was for the game's balance but didn't care enough about the writing and worldbuilding to introduce later tech and handle the objective lack of technological advancement over time more wisely.>Hell, current era mechs dont do anything that a mackie cantThe original mackie had a pretty big handicap in the form of primitive armor.
>>97866384And a primitive engine.
>>97866344I think the bigger point of concern was the idea that the resource you spend to improve your pilot and the resource you spend to improve/replace your mech are the same resource, and not two different resources like most other games.
>>97866494That's because they fell into the narrative game trap so "improving your primary combat abilities" gets lumped together because it's combat abilities and not based on how the things you're improving might be different.Hopefully the "more mechwarrior" stuff they've got on the back burner goes back to something more like A Time of War but with the expanded lifepaths like 3e (but also without the insane character creation only XP that gets converted into normal XP at an exponentially increasing ratio). Honestly, my dream RPG for Battletech is basically just going back to Traveller but stapling on a system to turn the character's ground skills into CBT piloting stats when they get in a mech or combat vehicle.
>>97866197>The timeline shouldn't have even advanced beyond 3051 at the latest in the first place.(You)
>>97866616NTA but he's right; I'd even state that moving the timeline beyond 3039 has done nothing but damage the essence of the game
How bad was the first '20 Years' timeskip before the Clan Invasion?
>>97866643>I'd even state that moving the timeline beyond 3039 has done nothing but damage the essence of the game'tis poor bait indeed, m'lord.
>>97866380They kept all the old shit, making the time skip pointless.
>>97866197Battletech isn't 40K. The setting isn't big enough to have those kinds of stories without pushing the story forward.Just admit you want the setting to die.
The Hammerhead is the best mech CGL has ever done. Therefore the time skip is awesome. Grogs need to fuck off
>>97866178We've spent the past 25 years dealing with the consequences of the 2001 Wizkids timeskip because of how much shit needed to be filled out! Hell no!
>>97866591Also, kinda de-incentivizes improving skills not directly connected to piloting a mech or combat vehicle. Which is part of the whole appeal of something like Destiny over a narrative campaign (which CBT can already do just fine), your pilot can occasionally get out of the mech and do other things.Just saying, having that option is the novelty of a Battletech RPG.
>>97866197Why the fuck do you want to have the Clan Invasion started but not hit Tukayyid? Shit man, that scenario was in 1994. You want a period of time before the 10th anniversary of the game and literally the entirety of Generation Z and Generation Alpha have been born since then.
>>97866676Not baiting, they expanded the lore at the expense of the spirit of the game
>>97866687The setting is not suitable to being moved forward just due to the fact it's tied to a tabletop game that demands technological stagnation for the sake of game balance.>The setting isn't big enough to have those kinds of stories without pushing the story forwardLike what? The wolf's dragoons and their endless mary sue bullshit? The clans being irreconcilably badly written from top to bottom, start to finish? The blakists suddenly conjuring a bunch of divisions out of thin air, declaring war on literally everyone and dying? The fucking dark age?If pushing the story forward just makes the setting worse and results in constant inexplicable retardation then that further reinforces the fact that the setting should not have advanced in time.Almost all of the little personal stories are trash, the setting only has value as a backdrop for your dudes.
>>97866643The Clan Invasion started in 1989/90. The game existed less than 5 years before we were past 3039. It has been 36/37 years since then.
>>97866750>the sake of game balanceYou'd have a point if the game had ever been balanced. The tech progression is fucked because the devs tried to maintain game balance with existing equipment, rather than embracing the idea that different eras can have differences in gameplay as informed by the technologies in use.
>>97866692The hammerhead could have come into existence at the very beginning of the jihad, the newest tech on it is almost a century old by the time they actually "invented" the mech.
>>97866740>they expanded the lore at the expense of the spirit of the gameTrying Too Hard
Finishing up a squad of Smoke Jaguar Elementals. Should i paint hazard stripes on top of the bazookas or is that too 40gay?
>>97866729Tukayyid puts a definitive end to the "mysterious advanced invaders from beyond the periphery that might conquer everything" era, the clans become even less interesting when they're just a bunch of especially retarded people chilling in the northern corner of the inner sphere.Preferably, the clans would have been rewritten to such an extent that tukayyid would never have happened anyway.
>>97866823isn't the ilclan playing with that idea right now at least?it really sounds like its going hard on the barbarian hordes have taken rome and call themselves romans and everyone else is trying to find a way to kneecap them without getting smashed vibe
>>97866805Nice Elementals. As for the hazard stripes I feel it'd be more of a Sphereoid/Peripherat thing than Clan.
I posit to you once again, the perfect medium mech is actually the griffin. Not the wolverine.
>>97866865The only way to tolerate ilClan is to ignore as much of it as possible.
>>97866865But ilclan is ilclan and it's built on a foundation of dark age and it can't fix the insane child's fanfiction grimderpness and hamfisted success that is the clans. At best you can have the clans do a completely out of character makeover and just never mention anything that came before that again. They can't be retconned to make sense for legal reasons(can't do any major rewrites for dark age canon) and even if you could you'd have to do so much retconning that it wouldn't be feasible without rewinding to the opening stages of the clan invasion at the latest. Not that the literary geniuses that CGL allows to write these days and the retarded clown world culture we've lived in for the past few decades would create anything better in any case.
>>97866823Oh wow, you are unironically trying to fight that battle. Didn't expect to encounter someone well in their 50s on 4chan.Though I suppose you could be some young as hell jackass larping as one.
>>97866883You meant Shadow Hawk iiC. It's common mistake for rookie pilots.
>>97866883It's too much of a specialist. It's a better fire support medium than the wolverine, but the wolverine has advantages in other areas.
>>97866921Yes. Please.Clan invasion ends with the fedcom and draws double teaming the clans out of the IS.Fedcum civil war never happens because Katherine is too busy being hollowed out daily by big galen cox cock and crapping out an entire brood of little steinerdavions who go on to be actually useful generals etc.Sunny tzu goes the way of Maximilian and cappellans become the most hated faction, even over the clans. Instead the cappies get the sister, and she is the one who goes reformist. And instead of MUH XIN SHENG HURR DURR, it's letting the unpeople have actual jobs and shit, so the cappies instead get much bigger workforces for proper industry etc. And they start making mechs for everyone, like the mariks were doing in clan invasion. This way the caps get their fifty gorillion regiments of mechs, from somewhere believable, instead of just instantly pulling them out of their assholes. The star league experiment ends because everyone is still too retarded to agree to not be faggots. Instead they have an 'in case of clans, break glass' pact.Fedcom civil war is more the fedcom federal forces having to deal with discontent amongst steiner this or davion that. Since they now have this actually fucking gigantic realm to manage.Wobbies do a secret spy guerilla campaign instead of open warfare 'let's nuke all the things' idiocy, and it's dealing with their Machiavellian plots that's taking uo all the house's efforts. So the fedcom cw is actually the wobbies trying to take them out first.Comstar disavows and expels, comguards reinforce all hpg etc and assist any house /planetary forces in purging wobbies with extreme prejudice. It is dealing woth the wobbies that pulls the IS together as they have to slowly slowly cooperate more and more with each other to stop the false flags and sneaky shit of the wobbies hopping borders and trying to constantly start shit.
>>97866879maybe some leopard spots?
>>97866977That's the spice.
>>97866750>The setting is not suitable to being moved forward just due to the fact it's tied to a tabletop game that demands technological stagnation for the sake of game balance. So you admit you want the setting to die.
>>97867005The setting is not alive right now, it is a decomposing zombie forced to shuffle forward. Wanting it to move on in its current state is not you asking for it to live, it's you asking them to desecrate a corpse. If you can't figure out how to move it forward without making it worse it's objectively better to just put it in stasis, ilclan is just writing for the sake of writing.
>>97867042Trying a little too hard there, buddy.
Idea: Gibbetting on Pirate mechs
>>97867060What a compelling retort.
>>97866927There is no battle, that was decided over 30 years ago.But if people ask a question I feel like answering I will.
>>97866883Which variant though? I can see an argument for the 1S over the 1N for example if talking introtech?
