It's strategy.Consider Anders, the Paladin. He's level 5 and can smite a couple times in a big nova burst against you. But his companions are lower level. So CC Anders, kill him ASAP, and then clean up the rest. There's one specific one in the middle that spits out a BIG justiciar after a few turns who gives you a lot more XP but I think it only happens once, and only from that one portal. Killing all the intellect devourers in the colony can also easily net you a ton of XP to make up anything you missed out on in 1 and 2. 4 playthroughs and I was always 10 by the time I hit Ketheric's boss room, either just before it in the colony or literally hitting it after seeing the cutscene with the 3 Chosen (giving you a chance to level up before you walk forward and talk to Ketheric to start the fight). These aren't actually very good, because Longstrider is a ritual spell that every wizard/bard/ranger knows, and Freedom of Movement has a ring to grant it and you can also just get a cleric to cast it on you. I feel like an equipment slot is more valuable than a spell slot. So I think I will go back to giving her the disintegrating night walkers, because those have a charge of Misty Step and it has a lot more immunities to various hazards.I find it funny that the best shoes in the game are in the middle of act 1, and so are many of the best amulets and rings as well. I also used the adamantine heavies for almost the whole game, and only just now switched them both out for Ketheric's and the Persistent armor. Hell, the blood of Lathander stays top tier until act 3 as well in regards to weapons.On the one hand, it's good that stuff doesn't become obsolete like in a looter shooter or mmo. But on the other hand, someone like Lae'zel is using the same boots, sword, armor, and rings from act 1 all the way until the later half of act 3, which can feel samey.
