It's the same engine, the same servers, the same shared infrastructure.
Poe1 and poe2 run on the same engine so they can share assets.
The only difference is the newer poo2 assets are higher quality, and the environments are made with better shaders/lighting

If 2 came out in 2021 or 2022 perhaps I would feel a little differently. I like Path 1 and I intend to keep playing it but every year that went by I cared a little less and less about #2. Secondly, the hardware requirements for Path2--especially the 100Gig space requirement--doesn't work for me at the moment. What's hilarious of all is this more tactical, combat-means-something (they claim) video game is receiving the speed demon treatment with Breach and Delirium. The timed mechanics of Path 1 that encourages speed builds that everyone pretends that they're above playing. I, for one, like faster builds of Path1.

I'm not totally delirious about path2 but it's going to be a long while before I can even bother playing path2. The worst part is how my favorite game is on the back burner. That shit pisses me off about this company.

Uhmm let me calm you down and say that even if you buy via Steam (off-game), the supporter pack and the corresponding points will eventually be associated with your game account.

Anecdote: I bought two days ago or so with my remaining Steam wallet credit. Okay, no points on pathofexile.com. Then I log into poe1 hoping it would somehow detect my purchase and finally associate the poe2 supporter pack with my account - nada. It's as if I purchased the poe2 pack in isloation, just redeemable when the EA actually launches, or I thought maybe it will only be associated with my poe account once I log into POE2. I thought I may have done it wrong by not logging into POE1 first, then going to the ingame shop (M) and buying the pack there, because that should have worked for sure.

Anyway, it just took a while. Not sure what exactly triggered it, but I would make sure to log into poe1 for a bit after you bought the poe2 pack just to make sure. Cuz now after two days it also shows up for me at the top under https://www.pathofexile.com/my-account/transactions and I got my points as well and key seems finally here too.

First timer on PoE, just finished the campaign, got my res downed and I'm starting maps.

I know I should prioritize capping the resistances, but why on earth do I keep getting oneshot from some random elite or lightning spires (and bosses) on tier 2 maps? Is it only a resistance issue or is there anything else?
Also, what should I focus on now? Finding new gear with specific stat? More sockets?
