Sending good vibes to all lolidevs.

lol anon, are you still working on that so called "dream game" of yours, even though it's boring, ugly garbage that no one wants to play? are you going to keep telling yourself that's okay because you're "just an amateur", that this is "just a hobby", and that you're "just making art"? don't you know how pathetic that is?
>>503398279Holy shit! Another video format that people won't post progress with?>Audio streams are not allowed.Oh I guess I haven't manually remove that myself then and you can't just do it? Might as well stick to converting everything to webm
>>503398554but i am a biological woman
Making some animations to represent player states as I prototype different state machines / control schemes / movement mechanics
>>503398591hey you fucking grown ass man if you want to pretend to be a tranime little girl they have a whole ass board for you dregs >>>/trash/eat shit, for life
>>503398680Plap plap plapGet pregnant. Get pregnant!
I've improved
>>503398491Nice I might make this for my wife
How diagetic is you're game? Crusader Kings 3 presents the entire game you play on as (you)r personal map. Of course this doesn't make sense with any of the menus/UI but it's a neat idea.
how i do this? any knowers?
>>503398680Get a husband then sis, I love my wife.>>503398816How many hours for this cristobal?
Cris "improves" in the same way a geometric series increases
>>503398554I'm trying
>>503398936In total, been practicing like 5 hours I think.
>>503398929Auto-exposure
>>503398491my day started negatively and ended positively.i will try to start my day tomorrow positively.
>>503399085auto exposure seems like it doesnt do what i want.i don't want players to be able to walk around in pitch darkness and see stuff
>>503398914My game almost has 0 menus outside of option/load etc.
>>503398520They give you a false image of how well your game will be received because people tend to be nice in public. People will gladly spend 10 minutes playing a game they'd never buy and still say nice things about it.In my opinion not worth the effort unless it's some local event where you're not paying anything to be there. If it's a dev community event then it might be worth it for networking if you're interested in collabs.
>>503399172IDK what the parameters are in Unity, but it should have some way for you to clamp the range.
>>503397994What's the game she was developing with her company before abandoning it? Did she ever post it? She may not be all that bright but considering the average woman nowadays, she is unironically a better choice for wife than many here in the US.>>503398194Just how many events has your game been too? Have you noticed any sort of identifiable trend on them affecting your wishlists in the week following the end of the event?>>503398491Don't know what this is but I'd try a bite. I've backed up my game a while ago along with art files. I should work on it but ughh it's hard to motivate myself when it doesn't feel like a gmi game
>>503397994I'm thinking about 3d Fluffy game with decent fur physics and gore, is Unity good at this?
>>503398491your shits must smell so fucking bad. the food probably tastes good though so not knocking your cooking.

>>503398520I find them super useful. Seeing people play live is amazing. Its great for understanding the psychology of players. I also work on the game live. If a player finds a bug, I'll fix it right there on the spot when they're done. Then the next person who plays is basically testing the fix. Dont expect that many wishlists or anything though.

>>503401252Why do mechtards pretend to care about realism when the entire concept of putting a twenty ton tank chasis on top of a pair of chicken legs makes no sense to begin with? It wouldn't be able to move.
>>503401252for a split second I thought some aggydagger had really put timmy's free assets to use to mog.
>>503401559Don't mech games typically have inertial cancelation and magical teleportation moves?

>>503401559you could make it work, the hydraulics would have to be crazy but it's doable and not far fetchedwould it be efficient for combat? no probably not considering that tanks are already on their way out and bipedal tanks would be even easier to target and less stable on the groundchina is already producing 4 legged security bots
>>503398816horrible proportions, stop trying to draw form and shapes, go back to using sticks and basic shapes until you get proportions right
>>503401737Yes, usually there's some sort of dash or at least a jetpack you can fly around with. They're willing to ignore realism until it comes to nitpicking games they don't like. It's such a bizarre fanbase. At least in fighter plane or tank games the autism is directed at stuff that actually has some basis in reality. With mechtards nothing and everything makes sense.

>>503401252>its cabin travels at least a meter up and down each stepand?
>>503402782Try to use less buzzwords in each sentence, maybe then your brainrot will heal enough allowing you to recognize the archetype behind any humanoid mech
>>503402515>2 years agothis nigga still has no game

>>503402309norglorb...
>>503403360Are you offended? Good.
>>503402363>And this shit fails at convincing me its mass and sizeThat's exactly my point. If this fails to convince you in terms of mass and size, then how does any other mech design convince you? No mech looks convincing, so why choose to nitpick some designs and accept others as better?
>>503403412see you tonight
>>503403412Just don't come here during thirdie hours or on weekends and it's much better.
>>503401559The most realistic real-world example yet of a "mech" that I'm aware of is Exosapien's Strandbeest Mech Suit. It's impressive, in the "perfect for making impressive Youtube videos" way, not remotely practical for any real purpose at this point. It weighs 8,800lbs with only a 36kWh battery granting it up to one hour of slow in-place movements, or nearly 15 whole minutes of walking at a blistering 3.7mph, allowing you to travel nearly an entire mile on a single charge. The main thing they're pushing for right now is how they're going to turn this into a sport, a sport involving huge robots not fighting each other but rather racing, racing mech suits with 1/160th the efficiency and 1/38th the top speed of a piddling Tesla Model 3, wow that's gonna be so
>>503393521Once in a while, there's always this George Carlin wannabe dropping "the HARSH FUCKING TRUTH" without realizing why it doesn't change shit in general. If there's anything sadder than a delusional artist, it's a delusional art critic>DisneyThank fucking God I don't want to be the most evil faggot who created a monster that'd even make him sick.I'd rather think I'll be the next Garth Ennis.
God I hate deadlifts
>>503403796Are you trying to slide into reductionistic cuckery? Like any setting with FTL should have magical unicorns since they both are unrealisticThere are some boundaries you want to stay intoAnd its not about the design itself(I like retrofuturism), Its MOVEMENT that fails
>>503401252i'm sorry, i'm not autistic enough to make my game into a simit will just be a shittier quake 1 with a superficial mecha coat of paint

>>503405419cris, anime and manga look the way they do because they're made using teams of unskilled workers who need to be able to quickly draw characters on a large scale. It's why early AI models were able to generate convincing anime girls before more realistic characters, because anime is designed using formulas with the intent of being mass produced.

40 to 60 games release on Steam alone EACH DAY.About 350 games in the week around your release.AAA release? Successful release AAA or indie, in your genre? BOOM you are done. Also, not only are you competing with other new releases, but the entire backlog of games on every system a player owns. :)Take all the "indie success stories" you can think of in the past 10 years and divide it by the number of devs in that time who have tried (again, 50 games a day, 1500 a month) and there's your historical likelihood of "making it."Steam cut, higher self-employment taxes, no benefits, no retirement, AND to top it all off: Your sales diminish over time, so even if you hit this "mediocrity lottery" you'll have to do it all over again in a couple years.>He thinks that indie gamedev can provide a sustainable primary income in 2024HahahahahaH O B B YOBBY

>>503406273I don't think people realize how bleak the future looks. There are twice as many Indians in the world as there are people in Europe and North America combined, and that includes the hundreds of millions of brown people who already exist in those continents. Indians have set themselves up for global domination within the next century simply by outbreeding everyone else. They didn't have to advance technologically or culturally, all they had to do was fuck like rabbits and export millions of their spawn around the world. It's genuinely over.
>>503406120>There are 2 billion Indians
>>503406771i plan to sell that low and don't think that's bad. i don't think most people go scrounging through the actual lists and instead rely on friends/youtubers to tell them what to play
guys you just know I gotta say it... I seriously love this hobby!
new problem:torches are supposed to stick a certain way in the wall after they collide... but they don'tsource of bug:in the object's movement code, object places itself against the wall, then sets itself to asleep so no more physics calculations runbut actually networked movement code doesn't set position directly, but with a struct. and that struct isn't applied to the object's position/rotation because it is now asleep

>>503411345Fuck, I've always wondered how anyone could get off to NTR shit but I've never thought about it like that. Do you think it all stems from feelings of inadequacy and self hatred? Something along the lines of believing you don't have what it takes to pleasure the woman you love, so you might as well let someone else give her what she wants. >>503411998>wife
>>503410762This shit is painful to watch once you realize it's all an act she's putting on to give off a "sad girl aesthetic" and fish for male attention and validation online. None of it's real, it's impossible for attractive young women to experience genuine negative emotions. It's like those ragebait tiktok videos of hot girls pretending they have autism.
>>503409789its ok it was easy.I just got the order wrong when multiplying quaternions (and needed to rotate the floor/ceiling version by 90 degrees)
>>503412425Negative and positive emotions are possible for everybody. It's all about what you're experiencing compared to what you're used to experiencing. A woman in her prime will be miserable because the best she can do is marry a 35 year old millionaire instead of a 25 year old billionaire. Or in a more familiar context, someone can be over the moon if they're getting 10 downloads a day on Itch while someone else can be devastated they got only a thousand sales on release day.
>>503412425Women experience negative emotions all the time that's why they're so batshit insane.

That's all she's doing, that's the entire channel. Whining into a camera doing a pouty face, making herself appearing vulnerable to desperate young men, and for all that effort she's rewarded with over 100,000 subscribers. I wonder how much money she's raking in from these videos.

I don't need all that AAA crap confusing me, but I also don't want an engine/framework -too- shitty where my game hits a wall too soon.I'm a pretty good coder so if I need to abandon engines and do frameworks instead that could be an option.
>>503417871It literally doesn't matter what engine you use as long as it's equipped to handle the sort of game you want to make.
>>503417871Or even an assembly of libraries, which is how I made my first game in js html5

>>503419345look up what are chords and just spend a month composing combinations of close chords in the circle of fifths. You learn making music by just composing a lot of minisongs of 16-32 bars. Then you simply join multiple bars of them. Also look up what is percusion, what is a lead, what is a pluck, what is a pad, what is an ambient sound, what is SFX.That should be enough to make basic music.

>>503421709I don't get it
>>503420343why would you?
>>503421296there's a lot you can learn, but I eventually learned that you can ignore 99% of musicfag autismo.Just learn to use your ears.Do a bunch of compositions where you use only certain chords of the circle of fifths and take notes about how they make you feel.Another cool exercise is to compose a few songs on every greek mode and some scales like chinese scales, blues scales and arabic scales, and then notice how each one produces a particular feeling. Also do a bunch of compositions where you limit yourself to only using a single iterval between notes, and put attention to how each interval sounds.Music is less about theory and more about training your ear to perceive things. Also, download some MIDI of your favorite songs and just copy them a lot.Another excelent exercise that taugh me a lot, is to lay some chords, and then having 4 voices, then one voice is just a whole note, the second one is only half notes, then another one is 4rth notes and the last one is 8th tempo notes.Music is not that hard, but requires simply doing a lot of compositions.A good book to learn composition is Fux gradus at parnassum.
-Removed camera up/down movement entirely. Both hardcore gamers and new casual players didnt move and pan the camera up/down correctly but did turn the camera left/right correctly. To make the game better I had to make a huge change where the camera is always fixed at the correct up/down angel and the player doesnt have control over it at all.Yes im serious. 1000 playtesters and only maybe 20 moved the camera up and down correctly makes it so the game would fail if I didn't make this change because humanity is retarded. -Increased default camera zoom in to even MORE zoomed in. People in agdg have wanted this for years; where the default camera zoom is very zoomed in close to boku but the ability to zoom out on input is still there and useable at any time if you need it.

I have a workflow question. In my 3D action game, I would like to have the characters' attacks (sword swings, etc.) to have some VFX to follow the path of the strike. I don't need, nor do I particularly want it to be procedural. If I can, I'd like to bake it into the animation in Blender, and have that just werk in Godot. As far as I'm able to find with my google-fu, *nobody* does this. All tutorials are either for procedural weapon trails, or are not meant for games, and thus use methods within Blender that won't transfer over to the engine. How does this kind of thing normally get done? Here's a new animation I'm working on.
>>503424164Whoops.
>>503424164the effects would need to be part of the model for that (and i guess you'd just enable or disable viewing the materials for them by changing their uv coords or visibility or something in game when using them)if you change anything though you'll have to go back and change everything which is why everyone does procedural fx

Generally it's probably more efficient to make a bunch of general purpose effects and slap them on top of an animation rather than making bespoke vfx for each animation.

>>503424164draw the particule animation into a sprite sheet then simply animate the UV inside of blender using a shader UV node.Or simply make an animated sprite be spawned in the engine that tracks and follow the position of the bone. You can do that using your animator tool inside godot with a basic animated sprite as weapon trail.A good technique for that is to use a gradient texture, then simply use an animated mask to move around it, giving the illusion of VFX or magic.>>503425071It would be better if you learn blender shader nodes. It does basically the same as substance painter, plus you can understand how to make a shader with blender.A similar tool is armor paint which is like 20 usd.>>503426154good luck. You can still look up some college books on harmony and clasical form, to be totally clueless over what to do.Some good books I read were introduction to tonal harmony, figuring out melody, forgot the name but It was a book that explained how classical forms like sonata worked.Learning the classical forms, basically is like when you learn to draw a manequin when you're learning to draw people. Also learn to tell apart 3/4 from 2/4 from 4/4 rythms.Good luck anon.Learning music has been challenging but also very rewarding.
>>503425071They're right that substance painter is a great program with good value, but if you want something free to get started with you can always paint textures with good old Blender. There's also ArmorPaint, which you can compile yourself for free or pay $19 for a precompiled binary. I haven't messed with it much but I've heard good things.Allah forgive me for mentioning this one, but Blockbench is really convenient if you only want to paint specifically pixel art textures. It's made for that purpose and totally free.
Any Unity understanders want to tell me which way is the right way to do something? I want to have a big procedurally generated world. When the player gets close enough to (X,Y), I want to generate the area of the world around that point. I see 2 ways to do this -1. Additively create a new scene for each zone, instantiate the world area generator (and whatever other GameObjects are needed) into that scene. Unload scenes when player gets too far away.2. Do everything in one scene, manually load/unload individual GameObjects at the appropriate time.Basically I'm tempted by the SceneManager functions that would let you do 1 just because it appeals to organization autism and you get stuff like LoadSceneAsync for neatly doing it multithreaded. But, on the other hand, using CreateScene seems kind of broken, so I'm not sure it's actually worth figuring it out.

And I'm embarrassed at time's for it too has been in development for far too long. The strange thing I've noticed is that a lot of devs are unironically taking unusually long with similar games, yet I've seen dev's of various genre's from years ago accomplish making games in what felt like much shorter time frames. I doubt these people were coding geniuses just from what I've assumed about them so what gives? Why did they complete the same things in 1-2 years but people today are taking 3-10 years to pull off the exact same thing? I know there was a lower bar back then when it came quality of life content for game's like key rebinding menu's and UI quality but surely that alone isn't enough to cause this drastic increase. What gives?

Having to decide between possibly escaping the wagecage (gamedev) or have fun playing games. You for sure know most game's do not succeed. Add that to the equation and working on my game become less likely when these are the possible outcomes>wage + work on game after work (fail everytime and never get to have fun until i'm 40+ and realized i screwed up)>wage + just have fun, acceptance of being enslaved up to the age of 62 (yes early retirement, full retirement is a scam in my eyes)or the super low odds>wage + gamedev (and make it off gamedev)If making it off gamedev was as easy as it was back in the early 2010's then sure I'd be able to endure more effort being put into my game. I'm starting a little side-project for a break from my main project. The goal is to complete a game in 2 months. Basically, demo ready for next DD, then submit to NextFest, then put it up on Steam in January / February.Started implementation on it yesterday after spending a week writing a rough game design document. Plan is, keep it simple and don't overcomplicate systems. Also, use as many of my complete systems from my main project to save time. Only thing I've never done before is isometric 2d tile generator with procedural generation. If anyone has a good tutorial or video, a link would be appreciated.

I made a thing years ago and even now I get occasional feedback and it just completely kills my desire to make another game. Not mentioning the name of it because I don't want to attach a whiny baby post to it. Anyway I get stuff like me designing one thing and players saying stuff like "it would be so much better if it was an entirely different thing from different genre", or not paying close enough attention and then complaining about it being too hard or something. It's so draining and exhausting to read. It feels like my failing to convey information properly, but the only way I can do it anymore is beating people over the head with it. I'm reminded how the start of dead space it tells you to dismember enemies in graffiti, an audio log, and then an info popup. I want to overcome my new fear or whatever you want to call it, but I don't know if I have it in me. It makes me hate players, and if I'm not making it for other to play what the fuck would I be doing

No matter what your personal opinion on the matter is the reality is that godot gives you less control. It's the best engine to get started and fuck around like a beginnger and make tiny games easily but it's not a good engine to make games where you're actually trying to execute something exact and comlplex. I have a silly idea:Imagine a generic first person shooter. But, the only way to kill an opponent is to shoot him in the head after downing him. Terrain and weapon precision is tuned to make this last shot difficult without getting closer to the enemy (or maybe outright requires a melee hit).If you're downed, you can rise again by completing some trivial game like sokoban / pong / whatever to confirm that you are not brain-dead. You get back into action as fast as your skills allow.Tell me the obvious flaws / why it wouldn't be fun at all.
