Destiny 3 doesn't succeed unless it leaves behind Sol and does a massive time skip. If it came out and it was just fighting Fallen and Hive and whatnot on Earth and Mars again, it would be a disaster. Obviously, massive technical changes would be essential as well.

Why are you all so convinced D3 would be so different than D2? The dev team would be the same. Same writers. Same engine. Same DLC and seasonal structure. Same character design. Same weapons balancing. Same dev focus on PVE activities because PVP is just a minigame. Where is this magic change you all expect to come with Destiny 3? We've seen them go from D1 to D2 and most of their bright ideas had to be walked back over the course of multiple DLC releases. Destiny Rising with slightly less gambling and higher resolution is what you're asking for as if it would be some grand revelation. The best compliment people give that game is: It's like D2. Wow. The reason why people want D3 is that this game needs a major infusion of content. If Forsaken/Taken King dlc were a thing like every other year D2 would have been alright but most dlcs are only slight above Shadowkeep in terms of content if not less. And when Bungie briefly defied expectations after Shadow Keep they kept trying to go back to their old ways. This is a company that has a serious problem with its culture and its never been more apparent. Just a couple months ago it was found out that the game had a severe bug that fucked with the RNG that people had been consistently been reporting to them only to be met with "there's nothing wrong with it" and the community was right and they immediately went quiet. Im not saying there arent ridiculous players but you should rememeber why things are like this.

Replaying Borderlands 2. Hyperion Shotguns feel so damn good. Like a D2 Pulse crossed with a shotgun. Longer you shoot the more stable it is. Absolutely sniping enemies with this shit. I remember playing Trials when that shit came out in House of Wolves. So i think Marathon will be smaller than what they envisioned originally, which isn't a bad thing.

And it doesn't have to be like I said it, but it needs something equivalent in level of player control and engagement.
The problem with a destiny three is that bungie has spent the last seven years trying to fomo people with getting new gears and buying cosmetics, without the draw and clout of something like fifa or cod that will always attract retards that are willing to start over every year so they can be in the newest game.But the game also can't properly support that kind of model with all the engine issues, so it needs at least a major refresh.But why bother putting all that time, effort, and money into revamping destiny 2 into a modern game when you could just make a new game?Truly a conundrum. That could have been solved multiple times by now, but bungie always wants to go the easy way and now have themselves backed into a corner with pretty much no way out, without the player base to support the game as it is anyway.
The only Destiny 3 with any hope of success is a Destiny reboot from the ground up 10 years from now.

When you set it up to retroactively count everything, you can make that armor easily accessible to both hardcore and casual people that have played for the entirety of Destiny 2, But make it so a new person can start now and unlock it all if they just, you know, play non-stop from now until D3 release. And have it so not only D2 players feel like their time investment is respected, but also give yourself a playercount boost because there WILL inevitably be people that want to play D3 but want to start with all the D2 goodies in spite of never playing D2 before.
