Not sure if this is a bug or not, but when you get the passive skill, "Lord of Horror" (Minions have 12% reduced reservation) you need to click off all of your minions and then click them back. The game doesn't factor in the reduced reservation on active minions and that should get you at least 1 if not 2 additional minions.

Ster theorycrafted his own build at the start and was blasting bosses and maps with a skill almost nobody uses to this day. Snipe. Helmet that causes crits to have a 100% chance to apply a poison. He increases crit damage. He applies a poison(s) with Snipe's gigantic modifier and watches boss HP bars deplete. He uses it to prolif poison, but otherwise for white packs farts the poison cloud. It was kinda fun to watch him play it.

the advantage melee should have is that their basic hits interrupt individual enemy attacks by staggering things so their survivability comes from better control, but we're playing a game where enemies don't even attack because the screen is permanently exploding and you only die to on-death pools

1. add more cool suffix/prefixes to the game to different slots
2. put cooldowns on strong combo skills like lightning rod and bell, or force them out of being able to be used as a primary spam skill
3. i have no idea add more skills. bell and rods are cool, but it's more of the fact that the other classes don't have something like this
4. potg builds also use bell, but you don't have to, because it's so strong you can just tempest flurry + herald of thunder through maps and never releasing the attack button and 1shot everything like D3 flurry monk

Flicker strike was heaps of fun in Poe1. The difference between that and this is that in Poe2 they've taken away any of the mobility you used to have. Leap slam is slow as hell. Shield charge stops on every tiny little white mob spider that dies to a stern look. The wind up on shield charge means EVEN IF you don't get stuck on a random mob you will die before you even start moving. Flicker strike is restricted to QS only (and so is the rest of the good melee toolkit including all the shit with actual mobility and escape).
All they need to do is give melee some actual fucking mobility. Ranged plays the spacing game by not moving as much but being able to project damage over the whole screen. Melee plays the spacing game by only being able to hit things nearby but having more ways to position around the fight. That's how it should be. But its the opposite. Range has all the mobility AND the range. Its so fucking stupid.

Let melee skills freely path through enemies, like wading through units and beating the shit out of them. Literally just turn the game into Dynasty Warriors as a melee-only thing.
If their vision ever actually gets realized, comboing abilities is required, and moshpit swarms that can't be instantly blow up are commonplace, then this would melee feel fun as fuck. Claws dash through enemies swinging wildly, hammers and axes cleave through with wide swings while stepping forward, Ice Strike and shit doesn't latch onto an enemy but simply moves forward and displaces them.
There, melee is fun as fuck now. It also ties mobility to your attacks so you've made up for the fact you can't just circle-strafe and spam like magecucks can, which also means you can design anti-melee mechanics that melee can do while attacking and moving to the right spots

It really isn't that hard a concept. Make this game Dynasty Warriors for melee

They "fixed" melee two times in the history of poe.
1. Original slam league. Everyone was running around shouting and one shot slamming everything.
2. Legion cyclone league. Everyone was running around with strong, screenwide aoe cyclones.
What did they do? They nerfed both of them into the ground, never to be good again.

I'm not the person you were originally replying to, I'm saying it like Dynasty Warriors because that's literally what this game is going to be with 50 enemies surrounding you that you can't instantly kill.

I don't want you pressing a couple buttons and popping the screen as if every melee is running Herald of Ice. I want you wading from one side of the pack to the other doing damage, enemies at 70% hp.Then a Quarterstaff turns around uses Frost Wave or whatever to jump backwards, freezing the pack. Then they jump back in with Vaulting Impact.
I want Warriors doing a short spin like a cyclone stopped early through a pack, then a rolling slam, then an earthquake that staggers everyone, then something that pulls them in. Five hit combos that move you through the enemy, position them, but also provide some survivability.
Claws and swords charging through from one side to the other over and over while building charges, followed by some big finisher move. idgaf, they aren't in yet so I can't say how to implement it.

The point is that so long as 'the vision' is maintained and screens aren't instantly dying eventually, this is quite literally the only way melee will not feel shit in this game. Look at every action combat game ever. They do the same thing. Moving through enemies, attacks move you forward, moshpits are displaced by melee rather than the other way around. As long as white mobs are meant to swarm you and not be killed right away, melee will be a fucking joke if this game isn't treated like Dynasty Warriors but with slower kills.

Literally all of them do combat the same way if there's more than 2 enemies in front of them. And this game is designed to have 20 enemies surrounding you at all times.

If you just don't want 50 enemies on the screen at once then you haven't been paying attention to the entire point of this playtest and the entire point of this game. Every mechanic is testing swarm mechanics, every encounter is 20 enemies, melees are getting pushed around by waves of them. If you don't want that you shouldn't even be waiting for this game's release because it's not for you. So the question is how you solve it for melee without it feeling shit.

How did they fuck up witch hunter ascendancy nodes so bad?
There is literally no node that does something interesting with crossbows or related to crossbows. The culling and decimating nodes feel like a band-aid solution to a damage problem,the AoE explode is a band-aid to clear speed and the worst thing is you can get almost the same property on items anyway. The only thing that's interesting is the concentration.

The real issue is that Deadye is better at every projectile skill that Witch Hunter is, even xbow skills
Nerf Deadeye so it's not so blindingly overpowered (probably need to nerf Invoker at the same time or get the same issue), slightly buff a couple of things on WH, and everything is fixed

This is a shorter post on Game Design and Player Friction. There is a fine balance to be had between no friction, some friction and too much friction. Right now, i'd say 8/10 maps is unbearable amounts of friction.

Map Layouts. Wow. Where to even begin? Like, I get it - not every map can be Strand, Shore, Beach, City Square. I get it. But did you have to make 85% of the layouts WORSE than Cells Map in PoE 1? Back tracking, winding non-sense open spaces peppered with small hallways or outcrops leading to dead-ends, all topped off with an UNREAL amount of choke points, doors, narrow passageways and other non-sense to just GET IN THE WAY.

Second point - the amount of hit box bugs and terrain blocking in the game is something I would expect from a very, VERY early tech alpha. I can't be the only one playing and wondering why on the mini-map my character icon is in what looks like an open area but I can't move?

Dude. The logs, grass, bushes, twigs, rocks, fallen logs, trees, flowers, EVERYTHING has to have a hit box?! EVERYTHING? I'm trying to run thru a map and there is literally just holes in the ground. WHY? What game play purpose does this serve - especially since many monsters are firing ranged projectiles at you and have stupidly fast, terrain ignoring movement skills while you are fiddle farting around trying to just run around a stupid rock?

There needs to be some friction - I get it. But every SINGLE thing that my character just get snapped into and can't move then dies and loses the map I'm trying to clear reminds me. This was designed this way. Someone made the code to generate these Biomes and very deliberately put THIS MUCH clutter into the maps.

Artificial Time Gating and random full cessation of character movement is jarring and dissatisfying.

I feel so sad guys, I hate how the game feels completely. I've put in about 150+ hours and I just can't enjoy it. I've played my own LR deadeye build to 90 and despise sanctum so haven't got last ascend. When I try any other character I feel exhausted and just want to turn the game off after an hour, can't make anything actually feel nice until it's out of campaign.

I've come to the conclusion that the way PoE is designed (both 1&2) playing a build which doesn't insta kill the entire screen just doesn't actually feel good. Getting stunned/pushed around feels awful, dodge roll feels like ass and has no personality. Game just feels exhausting to play on anything without 30% movespeed + skill speed. I have never wanted excessive damage and move speed as much as in this game. The packs are so annoying to fight and zones drag on so long. PoE2 just exhausts me, they say that they fixed melee but it just feels worse in this game, melee swings take a week to finish and it's so easy to get stun locked by white swings and you can't take a stun immunity keystone. Game just feels awful unless you are screen clearing.

I went back to playing poe1 and I could not believe how much faster and responsive that game is from the second you start.

The quarterstaff strikes latch onto a single target and only move through enemies if you readjust your attack to a different enemy. It does wonky shit all the time. If you attack and then blink during the dash you'll teleport from one side of the screen and then get pulled back to the original spot on the target. It should just move in the direction you're attacking
Also that's just quarterstaff and only the strike moves. The only two moves that actually go through enemies are Vault, which is slow and shit, and Gathering Storm, which will get you killed because the perfect timing is obscured when surrounded. And it shouldn't just be for quarterstaff even if this wasn't the case

Minions are dogshit in this game
SRS does not count, for it forgo's a fundamental problem that minions have: they body block eachother
Solution: give minions phasing through other minions or smaller colission boxes, but I think even with small boxes it'll still be doomed since 2/3 maps in this game have layouts that revolve around tight narrow passage and bridges even in large forest areas
And I think SRS isn't even that strong considering the other builds, it's just very low budget.
I think if they tone down SRS and use it more as a baseline starter-kit for fire-based minions that you'll either want to build around through new uniques or replace them later on with spirit-costing minions

Also minion skills (grenades have this as well where they have just low enough cooldown to wait for it and spam them but not enough cooldown to feel impactful over normal skills so you essentially spam them until the cooldown runs out and sit there waiting for 1 charge and immediately spam it) feel WAY too spammy.
Lets say instead of SRS you go Storm Mages with Choir or something, you'll have 9 casts of the storm mage skill that go by 1-by-1 without any cast speed and it's quite slow.
I always imagined the minion skills to be more of a coordinated platoon attack, causing all 9 storm mages to simultaniously do something cool kind of replicating the Vaal Summon Skeleton playstyle.

CI removes chaos damage. ES actually has easily accessible nodes on the tree. ES can be paired with evasion very easily double dipping almost. Armor, mechanically, provides less defense against the big hits that you specced into armor to survive in the first place. Evasion has entropy ensuring you get hit eventually.

Sure, but you can't ignore the implications of that and how it compares to other defensives. If you're going to focus on evasion as melee, you're functionally fucked. The problem with this game is precisely that you read your character sheet and think you have 80% dodge against every hit when it's not even that. You read there that your armor is excellent and you still get one-shot like a turd. There's block, but you're sacrificing a weapon slot and it requires huge investment to actually be good.

And then you have ES which works against everything and has no caveats. It even has a crapload of damage nodes specifically made to support it (damage with full life).

for SSF, GGG just need to balance it so its less good than the value of a typical useful mod, and for all I know they already have.

the issue is that the people stacking it are 90% in trade league and already have items which mean they will never die and lose farm that way, so the extra loot is always going to be basically a FREE efficiency saving.

without players actually doing experiments to assess whether just running harder content with better combat and defense mods is better, we aren't really equipped to judge whether its balanced.

Game balance is bad (because it's early access). You have to trade currency for items (because there's no crafting). To get currency you need MF (because it triples your farm speed). To use MF you need to play Stormweaver or Deadeye (or else you won't be strong enough because game balance is bad).

It's a lot of different issues coming together and encouraging people to play the game in a way that just isn't fun. Strong minded anons will resist the urge to play Stormweaver Spark, but more people are falling prey to the div/hr mind virus every day.

I think this was done on purpose, to make you hit the boss a few times and disengage (so that the game can try to pull some gotcha that hits you at range). Several bosses have one shots that are easy to miss if you are going all out.
