In his latest series for Blender 5.0, he teaches you how to make this mug.But at some point in the video, he attempts to make the bottom of the mug, but fails to first apply the solidify modifier before using the extrude tool, which causes an indent to form on the inside at the bottom of the mug (pic related)When he notices it, he quickly pans away the camera, and doesn't even address the problem, even though everyone who follows the video will end up with the same result. This dude has been using blender for 22 years, but can't even model a mug.
>>1024192He does model the mug in the end, doesn't he? That makes him more experienced that the average /3/ poster like you who will focus on process or tools as an excuse to not finish anything
>>1024193How do you think I noticed? Because I was following his "tutorial" as I myself am a beginner. Then, since this idiot didn't address his own mistake, I asked my friend who's been 3D modeling for a long time, and he told me he would've had to apply solidify before extruding the bottom. And what do you mean "in the end"? In the end the mug still had the fucking hole in it, and everyone who followed the tutorial ended up with the same fucked up mug.
Yeah I noticed in the donut tutorial he always leaves a hole in the middle of the donut and no one objects, drives me crazy
>>1024194It’s not even the same cup, no normals to the cup’s texture to sell the idea of feeling those bumps. BlenderGuru is a hack.
>>1024192I noticed it too but he covers it with a plane anyway so it doesn't matter
>>1024205In a later video? My friend wouldn't tell me how to fix it, he just kept insisting it would be a hassle and that I should instead just redo it.
forget all this modeling nonsense. make a base in blender, cup and the handle as separate objects then go into Zbrush to combine them. finish off by doing a boolean cut with a tapered cylinder for the rim thickness and you're done. it literally took 20 minutes.tldr; use Zbrush, it's the industry standard for a reason
>>1024211>20 minutes to make a more generic boring cup (not rounded, probably no bottom extrusion) by jumping through those hoops then you can do a better job with just blender in 10 minuteswhich is not me saying that blender is better than zbrush, it probably isn't but whatever your workflow it, is sucks
>>1024212I'm sorry you don't see the value in it, but I guarantee you that poly-modeling all of that, cleanly and nicely will take far longer
>>1024213>anti-blender schizo doesn't know anything about modelingStarting to understand your irrational behaviour
>>102421120 minutes? Did you fall asleep twice?
>>1024211how incredibly slow are you? Pic related took me less than 5 minutes, including the time it takes to launch blender
>>1024223You are not a professional. I'am.
>>1024192this is extremely obvious to anyone with even moderate 3d knowledge. he's clearly more of a technical artist interested in photogrammetry. just look at his blendercon presentation, it's very basic shithttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8AAX-ENWvQthen compare it to one done by an actual art savanthttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsBx4HNAjzY
>>1024363His role a lot of the time is as an educational outreach/communicator. Those two talks are aimed at completely different audiences and both have places in a conference. There's nothing wrong with back to basics talks
>>1024364i know, i'm not saying it's bad, it's just stupid for op to be like "my god he's not even good!" when it's so obvious he's not a hugely skilled artist. and there's nothing wrong with that either, he's probably good at architectural renders and photogrammetry as i said
>>1024365Yea, you didn't say architectural in the first post. That was the vibe I got from some of his older demos being more archviz adjacent. I understand your tone more now, there are just so many shit posters on this board.I agree the OP is especially stupid because if he watched further, he'd see that they cover the cup in a plane to put the coffee foam on top of. So you never see the bottom of the cup
>>1024365>it's just stupid for op to be like "my god he's not even good!"I mean it's a problem when he instructs people on how to make mugs but the mugs he makes are missing essential features just because "you're not gonna see it from this angle"I'd still like to know how to fix it because not everyone is interested in making renders, some people want to make game assets where the player will very much be able to see inside a mug.
>>1024367Shut up chud, he didn't do anything wrong that's how you are supposed to model mugs.
>>1024367if you're relying on andrew price's absolute newbie tutorial for your game assets you're probably in trouble
>>1024369even an absolute newbie should be taught how to make an actual mug if the tutorial says it teaches how to make a mug.
>>1024370if he's also making the contents of the mug which hides the error and you're meant to follow along what difference does it make
>>1024367I don't remember any game where I've seen the inside of a mug>>1024371This is what the final render looks like>>1024277>>1024356
>>1024374>I don't remember any game where I've seen the inside of a mugnot my fault you're an adhd zoomie and never looked at a shelf in a video game
>>1024371it makes a difference because fixing the fucking mug would've actually been useful as a teaching opportunity to teach people how to create faces and connect them inside a model, you know, teaching 3d modeling principles?
>>1024377He does that with the handle attachment. It's fine to leave it undone and leave you to fix it for homework
This whole thread feels like you blenderfags are all in the fighting pits eating scraps and ripping eachother's eyes out while I, the CADCHAD, watch in disgust and pity.
>>1024552Actual blenderchads are having it easy, it's only the no-models who complain about what you can or cannot do
>>1024552blendergods run this entire board lil guy
>>1024552it's the difference between ChADs and blendies where the former has to actually be functional and the latter only needs to have the appearance of a function
>>1024569almost like they're made for completely different purposes huh
>>1024587Chuddy chud.
>>1024204>BlenderGuru is a hack.99.99% of youtube tutorials are made by hacks, people who aren't hacks are busy selling their service, not making retarded faces on youtube thumbnails.
Are you new to Youtube? obviously the most popular channel in any field is going to be an intermediate at best
>>1024652Tutorials don't even teach you anything. You can't make anything without understand the why not just the how.
>>1024224>including the time it takes to launch blenderlt literally takes less than 5 seconds to launchamongst all the 3d software I tried (3ds max and Maya) Blender is the fastest
>>1024679takes about 15 seconds from desktop until I can start modeling, when opening blender for the first time. second time takes <1s
