how can i distribute spikes on the mesh neatly like in the ref photo using geometry nodes no stacking/overlapping and shrink the area so its not touching the edge

They're overlapping because you're spawning the spikes on both the top and bottom layer of the mat. You can use vertex groups to restrict what verts its places the spikes on. You should also connect the normal to an align to vector node so the spikes are perpendicular to the surface if you want it to curve like your picture
