All they had to do was integrate Mudbox into Maya. Blender has better 3D Modeling and Sculpting tools than Maya for free. Its an embarrassment.
>>
>>1031574
did they discontinue it because they deemed it redundant? then why do 3ds max and Maya still exist as separate softwares?
>>
>>1031581
Tons of work to merge them, both hugely popular, and they have different enough workflows that you'd risk alienating one audience by favoring the other's workflow. Presumably what's happening to mudbox means autodesk estimates people have moved away from mudbox to alternatives

to think i almost considered using this 10 years ago

Blender can never match the sculpturing power of Zbrush.

>A is better than B
>Well C is better than A
>...no one was talking about C, why are you bringing up C?

yeah well it had a major bug on mac for years that should have been trivial to fix so it was obvious it was completely unmaintained. It was how you hold shift or control or whatever to invert the brush, but you had to hit the button twice or something, like press it then hold it then reclick. i forget, but it was the kind of stupid thing a programmer should be able to fix in a day not years.
>>
they should have refreshed mudbox and brought it back when zbrush went to subscription. zbrush's perpetual license and free updates for life killed off all the competitors which is to say mudbox, but now zbrush is $400 a year subscription when mudbox was $100. zbrush was basically dumping to kill off the competition and then jacked up prices when they won. typical tech bro dick move.

>Why is Autodesk discontinuing the sale of Mudbox?
>Due to no significant feature enhancements since Mudbox 2019, Autodesk is discontinuing the sale and renewal of Mudbox
well whose fault it it that there were no significant feature enhancements since 2019, autodesk?
>>
>>1031578
my guess is mudbox is written in some god awful shit like turbopascal that won't be easily merged with the maya codebase.
>>
>>1031581
3ds max is already on life support. They'll ditch it too eventually
>>
>>1031574
chudbox bros...
>>
>>1031686
i feel like they might ditch all of their "media and entertainment" shit. it's such a small portion of their overall revenue. autocad is their juggernaut. i just hope they sell off maya to someone instead of killing it.
>>

Maya is very much still used in advertising, movies, music videos and others. No way it’s dying, unlike Blender who losing newer people because kids experience real software early in life and find Blender’s buggy software to be ick.
>>
>>1031682
the way u can tell ai sucks donkey is that converting an ancient shitty pascal codebase to c or rust should be trivial for llms but they haven't done it.
>>
>who losing
good morning sir

Autodesk
>AI online tools
>AI animation tools and more being added
>Updates that benefit users
>Collaboration tools
>Works with newest graphics tools

Blender
>Bad updates that no one asked
>Still no AI tools (3rd parties don’t count)
>No support (community only)
>Studios abandoned it
>Can’t achieve industry standards

Blender is dying a slow dead with AI
>>
i wonder if they're going to add better sculpting to maya after this. sometimes when companies kill a product like that, it's because they have something better in the pipeline.
