the models resource isnt the best and imcomplete
>>
>>1032594
Because it's copyright infringement, also it requires enough knowledge and effort that any good ripper will ask to be compensated
>>
it is the best and it's incomplete because of the legalities around these types of IP models as well as the difficulties in extracting each different engine's assets, not to mention that you need money for servers to host the downloads (downloads which are 3d models owned by other companies) and realistically this is the classic: 'if you don't like it, start your own' type response I could give you but there's a mountain of work involved in maintaining a site like that and I wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy
>>
>>1032599
i see, how am i supposed to study textures and models otherwise? and eventually be a 3d pro and get a job?
>>
>>1032606
you talk like a child or 3rd worlder, either way my advice to your question is the same: if you have to ask how to study then you're not a very intelligent student

You can look at them in-game, or fire up renderdoc or ninjaripper

not really but do go make your mental illness everyone else's issue lol

The models resource is one of the most violently autistic no-fun-allowed communities I've ever dealt with, you do not want to get involved. Unfortunately it is the biggest repository of ripped models next to P3DM which mostly caters to vehicle people and Sketchfab which isn't so bad but you need a special tool to rip models from there if they won't let you download the models by default.

If you want ripped 3D models from games, you're going to have to pay 3rd worlders on reddit, download a unique tool for whatever engine you're trying to rip from (inconsistent, some are easier than others), brute force it with something like NinjaRipper or Nvidia Nsight Graphics (would not recommend), or finally upload the game files to your AI coding chatbot of choice and have it do the work for you.

For engines with no known ripping/viewers tools, AI truly is the best option but it often takes several tries to get it to do what you want.

>pic related the training map from the first Call of Duty I ripped with ChatGPT just to see if it could

I've been ripping models for fun for quite a while, if you have any questions about it I can try to answer.

this thread is beyond glowing at this point
>>1032615
it sounds like it's your issue if you're already on damage control

you caught me im the CIA here to stop people from ripping anime girl models for the benefit of... somebody I'm sure, probably israel.

Point is OP if you want ripped models you're gonna have to do it yourself.

I have a very specific use case for something like RenderDoc right now but haven't used it, how complex is the exporting process for it?

You can download a ton of 3D models from Chinese gacha games, you just have to find them (which is easy via google). Here is one example:
https://gf2exilium.sunborngame.com/main/art
The only downside is they release them in mmd format so you have to install an addon for Blender (and use an older version of Blender for the addon to work).
However these are perfect for reverse engineering and learning from.
Pic related, something I cooked up after studying the models of Girls Frontline 2.

It's not like studying ripped models was very useful anyways. It doesn't tell you anything about the process of making the models, or anything about the game's rendering pipeline. At this point AI can create better study material, which says a lot, since it makes more sense to study chicken intestines.
>>
>>1032594
I find models resource to be good enough desu, but sketchfab is a good backup if the former doesnt have what youre looking for, a lot of people just dump the assets they rip in there
>>
>>1032684
>at this point AI can create better study material, which says a lot
It certainly says a lot about you and how much your advice should be trusted.
>>
>>1032693
Are you fucking retarded?

Sure it can

i don't know anything about chatgpt. how do you get it to rip or convert 3d models like that? there are so many games i'd like to extract models from but the old xentax forums have been gone for a while along with all the extraction and conversion tools.
>>
>>1032757
>how do you get it to rip or convert 3d models like that?
That's the neat thing, you don't
>>
>>1032757
It's surprisingly easy, you simply tell it what you want it to do and it does it. It's not something like UE Viewer where you open up a file and scroll through all the models until you find then one you want, you simply ask the AI what you want in particular and it will search through all the files looking for references to it. You can think of it like asking a relatively competent person to do a task for you.

First off if you want to do this you will need the $20 subscription, the free version will timeout before it completes any task. Secondly you will need the desktop ChartGPT app so you can feed it files from your computer.

Since I intended to rip some models today anyway, I'll walk through what I do.

>download/install game
>right click on folder containing all of the game files and select "Open project in ChatGPT"
This creates a new chat where the AI has access to all of the game's files. In this case I will be using "Stalin's Subway 2 Red Veil"
>give the AI some information about what it's working with and what you want.
So your very first prompt should be something that helps the AI with it's extraction. Things like the game title, the year it was released, who developed it, what engine it runs on, and what exactly you intend to do with the files. Want to just look at them in blender? Use them in a game engine? Do you only want the weapons models or perhaps a rip of an entire game map? Do you want the models to be in a certain file format? Specifying all of this greatly helps with the speed and accuracy as well as how happy you'll be with the final product.

So all I want are the character models from the game, so my first prompt will be:
>Here is a folder containing the files to the 2006 game "The Stalin Subway Red Veil" developed by Orion Games running on their proprietary game engine "Orion Engine". I would like you to extract all of the character models in their original poses and save them as .GLB files so that I may open and view them in Blender.

The AI will then look through all of the game files and do its very best. It may ask you for permission to do things or ask to download something from github every so often, but after a few minutes it should deliver something.
>>
>>1032766
>you will need the $20 subscription
Lol
Lmao even

After 16 minutes, I now have every character model in the game, neatly cataloged.
Depending on the engine the game uses, some models might appear black or maybe even come out with fucked up geometry. If you find yourself in that position, you can always take a screenshot of the problem, upload it to your current chat and be like "Hey this model is black and full of holes, please fix it." and it usually will. I've only had a single instance of it not fixing the problem after a few attempts but in general if you see a problem with the extracted models, simply telling the AI about it will result in a fixed version.

interesting. i'll give this a shot, thank you!
