If, for the sake of the story, the protagonist needs to work, then I'd rather the screen go black, a message pop up saying "MC worked for 4 hours" and then the game continue, rather than having to play some ridiculous minigame.
However, if the game is meant to be an RPG with battles, or a point-and-click puzzle, then I expect something comparable to a normal game. If it's a shitty ass implementation of gameplay, then it's better to keep it extremely simplified.

Yeah, I got lucky and was able to resolve it without bloodshed, but that was because I had the right attribute in the right moment (though I assume all attributes have a deescalation in someway).
