I mean often their stuff is posted directly here without something to link to. But could start doing that.
What we really need is a properly formatted/updated pastebin to archive stuff past it's OP expiration date.

Somewhat true, if you're looking for a hyperlink. They usually (key word, there) put their web address on their art now. They said it was because the spam filter used to act up. Plus they've got some written stuff on there that they were planning on releasing, too. The link I just copied was also from the last thread. But I agree there needs to be a new archive. Is there anything outside of pastebin, though, cause the last purge might not be the last one. Would Rentry.co be a decent alternative? I could set up a link today if we get enough anons to agree on what to add.

What are some unique ideas for a First Contact scenario between modern day Humans and advanced space faring aliens? I mean both your original ideas that you would find interesting or ones you've seen in various established media.
I'm struggling to think of an example like this and I'm sure it already exists, but I want more stories about aliens being genuinely benevolent and wanting to help humanity while having no ulterior motives. Almost every piece of sci-fi media involving non-space age humanity has them be genocidal world conquerors or indifferent observers, so a movie, book or series about aliens showing up and just being helpful for no reason other than a desire to help would be really novel.

One idea I had from a while ago was humanity sometime in the 1970's managed to catch the radio waves produced by another alien civilization estimated to be 6 light-years away from Sol. This information is common knowledge by the 21st century, and both humans and the other species are intimately aware of one another- sending messages and exchanging information whenever they can, seeing as how any ill intent had largely been disproven. Technology, particularly in the field of long distance communication accelerated in development, as both species cooperated to make long distance communication all the easier. The main idea of this story was to highlight how humanity might be better off with another species in talks with us. As a species, we're alone with our own perspectives and experiences- kinda like being locked in a room all the time with no one else to talk to. Having an extra perspective, a friend, can make the difference. Humans and the other species cooperate despite the distance, and by 22nd century, manage to make first physical contact in Alpha Centauri, a planned visitation of both species on a completely alien world to both of them. Naturally, the cooperation of mankind and the other alien species become inextricably linked. Yes- cross species romance is commonplace.

kind of had an idea where humanity is just starting to figure out FTL and in doing so bump into another species that's only a bit more advanced. Both sides are wary of each other at first but while they're feeling each other out a much more advanced alliance of alien species shows up and is impressed by both races reacting so peacefully with each other and offers them both a place within the alliance. Which both sides agree to as it would be the equivalent of a Bronze Age civilization with a professional army (humanity), bumping into an Iron Age civilization with a volunteer army (first Aliens they bumped into), and while both side were feeling each other out the entirety of the Allies and Axis forces from WWII pop up and ask if they'd like to join their BBQ.

This makes the first aliens that humanity was originally talking to and, well, humanity team up prison buddy style and start working together to bridge the technological gap between them and the rest of the alliance since the alliance doesn't want to just hand out their tech in fear that it may stunt both races in the long run if they're unable to figure it out themselves which makes humanity and the first alien species basically attached at the hip and are rarely seen anywhere without the other outside of their home planets.

Random question for the thread. What would you assume would be the most common species class aliens would be? As in if there was some kind of galactic community do you think most aliens would be some kind of mammal, avian, reptile, insectoid, etcetera, etcetera. What do you think would be the least common?

Assuming things happened like what happened here on earth (very large sample size I know) I'd assume reptiles would probably be the most common as they'd have been around the longest excluding sea based life. Least common would be sea based life unless they have a way to cheat pass needing fire.

The most boring answer (aside from "um ackchyually-ing" their species) would be whatever happens to be the most common coincidence, galactically. Lots of things could change the course of a planet's ecology. But if they're following earth one-to-one, it could definitely be avians given the right conditions. They have a really high neuron density for their size, iirc.

>>
>>9292261
I'd assume the most common species to arise to sapience- excluding mammals, would most likely be avians, then reptiles, followed by arthropods. The LEAST common would 100% be anything coming from the ocean itself- as cool as it is to imagine a sea-dwelling sapient species being able to make it to the stars, it's just incredibly unlikely they'd get that far and forever remain primitve at best- or never having achieved sapience at all. Cetacea are the closest we have to intelligent animals in the ocean, but they lack the appendages to manipulate their environment and make tools.

It's insane how strange and alien our own oceans are, imagine the kind of crap dwells in the oceans of some far away planet 100 lightyears from here. why do people keep saying this? yeah they're old, but they're also not particularly intelligent even after millions of years where intelligence is selected as a beneficial adaptation

There’s no reason many reptilian features couldn’t exist alongside intelligence, it’s just that so many of their existing adaptations nearly prevent it from arising or being useful.

>Random question for the thread. What would you assume would be the most common species class aliens would be?
For certain the LEAST common (or, "not-appearing-in-this-movie") alien species would be plants and fungi derived. If you're a species that has developed to the point where you don't even have a brain and don't need to move in order to survive, and you end up surviving anyways by covering the entire planet, you're at an evolutionary dead-end.
The sort of evolutionary pressures to make a purposefully MOBILE plant that has a brain would be incredible, never mind a plant that can actually think about enough things to get into space.
Plant/fungus aliens are more of a fantasy than naturally occurring inorganic aliens, which are already very fantastical by themselves.

>>9292987
>Cetacea are the closest we have to intelligent animals in the ocean, but they lack the appendages to manipulate their environment and make tools.

It doesn't help that the environment of the ocean prevents using a huge amount of technologies; you can't throw anything because water robs the projectile of energy. you can't burn anything because there's too much thermal mass to heat up and not enough free oxygen. you can't really get metals or stones in most areas, because everything below you is at too high a pressure or covered in millions of years of sediments.

even if you're a species that has a brain and good manual dexterity, if you're never able to throw anything, you'll never develop a brain structure that can consciously or unconsciously determine a projectile's trajectory. you will be permanently mentally handicapped in that regard; projectiles lend themselves to being used in groups, and groups require social cohesion, which reinforces massed and then specialist projectile throwing as a positive reinforcement loop. (kills from projectiles feeds the group, promoting further throwing behavior)
If you're inside the ocean, you don't get that neurological or social benefit.

I like aliens that really embody the identity of "alien" moreso than simply being creatures from another planet. The more you know about a species, the less it has that alien feel to me, but that's not set in stone. Irkens, Furons, and Illithids still have that sauce despite having distinct cultures and whatnot, almost as if their societies embody that ideal. Most Martians in fiction do this well too. Alien races whose "hat" is alien, if that makes sense.

Sucks for me that I don't find the stereotypical Grays attractive.

Hello people, my apologies to those who have been expecting an update to Silver Linings; I had myself a holiday of the mind and recovered from shit in my life.
It might not be finished for a while but I am still slowly chipping away at it. Feel free to remove it from the OP if you like and until the next update if need be.

Greetings, It is I AP, aka ThisIsARealAccount, aka Billy Windle(not really), here to post a new chapter of Vipers, Nights, and French Fries. Chapter 18 is y'know, like 11,000 words or something.

Synopsis is: Remember that guy Cane from the last chapter, well, is he testing our hero's? Who's to say. Vince may or may not explore whether or not he has psychic powers and possibly come to a inconclusive conclusion. And an exciting and thrilling job from the mob?! Can these guys catch a break, likely not because its all building to something... clearly...

I unironically had to bust my ass to get this out tonight cuz I gotta do some stuff tomorrow, so please do enjoy the early release. I've been doing well though. Still writing and working and shit.

As always, I appreciate any and all feedback. Constructive, or not. Thanks for reading.

After far too long a wait, here's Chapter 44 of The Howler!

Was worried we'd go a whole thread without me finishing this! It took a bit longer to write this than I'd anticipated. Writing bickering from several different species is difficult. I'm always a little concerned that these long diatribes of a bunch of aliens talking in a room can get a little boring, but it has to do with a very important topic, so I tell myself it's the height of excitement!

I'm looking forward to doing the final edit on this whole thing, because with how pivotal they are here, it's probably important to establish the Myrmids before this chapter, though combing out of nowhere is kind of the idea. Like I said, I'm on the writing groove, and I hope to keep going until this thing is done! I've got to do a small break to do some writing for a video game, but that shouldn't delay me more than a day or two.

And how could I forget this absolutely lovely piece of Zharr? It's very fitting, since he's very prominent this chapter. I love his smug expression, floating in his zero-G chamber, but well, until next time!

Well, she is a Trandoshan they just kinda look like that.
Officially they kinda zig-zag the whole scale pattern on the body.
Lots is easily explained because of saving on 3D rendering resources and not wanting the pattern to destroy downsized comic artwork.
So it's not that far off actually.

Ehh I wouldn't really say they look like that, they're supposed to have scales all over but I can understand artists taking shortcuts here and there. Really if they're not gonna do them fully, they shouldn't do them at all. Ends up looking inconsistent.
Speaking of Trandoshans though, The Old Republic has my favorite depiction of them. Jedi Consular storyline even gives you one as a companion. No females unfortunately, but still pretty cool.

>Subscribers from across the galaxy tuned in every month to watch heavily augmented female sex slaves (in most cases terran females) go hoof to hoof with quadrupedal beast from different worlds. Wagers on how long these poor slaves could last before being properly pinned and plundered were lucrative.
>This here slut had put up a hell of a fight but even her gusto was no match for the large leathery Gonmoru of Tillan Prime. His large testicle sac secreted a sticky concoction that he would use to latch onto his target. Here the target is properly latched, lifted off the ground and slammed onto the floor knocking the air out of her and pinning her beneath his weight. Subscirbers with the "Copulation" tier unlocked could continue watching past the "Bout" phase.
>If you were one of the subscribers dear viewer what would you like to write to this poor slave? There is a monitor with a string of comments and an automated vocalizer that reads these comments to her out loud as she endures the humping.

>>9290675
on a cosmic scale, light's a pretty shit thing to have a primary sensory organ be attuned for, innit? you're never going to be able to detect civilizations with it that are further than the distance in light years that it takes for an alien civilization to develop
that may sound confusing, but like, if there's an alien civilization 65 million light years away and they had a magically, infinitely powerful enough telescope, and they looked at earth, all they'd see were dinosaurs, even if at that moment it was covered with us, the human race
they may be alien worlds out there we'll never know exist, because the light (the fastest thing we know of and the bar by which we base cosmic speeds on as the highest limit) carrying the images of them hasn't crossed the vast distances between us
