I hung out with a friend from a different state who smokes like a chimney for a few weeks and picked up a bit of a habbit. Ever since I got home I've been itching to smoke. I just turned 20 (I look 30) and every gas station I've tried to buy cigs at tells me to fuck off. The friend in question said when he was my age (and younger) he'd get his parents to buy him cigs but nobody near me is like that. Anyone know any methods to get cigarettes or should I just wait a year?
>>34551750Ask a person outside of the gas station if they will buy you some. This is the only option unless you want to start growing your own tobacco.
>>34551862I've thought of that but I don't know what I should say. I feel like "Hey here's 20 could you go buy me a pack of Marlboro reds?" sounds suspicious even if I look old enough. Should I just say I forgot my ID at home or something?
>>34551894Just look for someone who looks friendly, if someone came up to me and asked me to buy them cigarettes I would gladly help them out. I think if you go up to 3 people at least 1 of them will be nice enough to buy you a pack. The USA has extremely draconian laws when it comes to "underage" smoking, I think most people will understand. >I don't know what I should say"Hey uhhh sir/mam, could you help me out? I want to buy cigarettes but I can't because I'm 20 years old. You're not going to be arrested for asking someone to buy you cigarettes, don't stress too much about it.
>>34551750>picked up a bit of a habbit. That's not how you spell hobbit. Or, for that matter, habit.
>>34552071Yeah I have fat ass fingers it's common for me to hit keys twice lol
>>34551750In my country, children can buy cigarettes and alcohol on every corner. It must be difficult having to wait until you're 21 to be treated like a real adult.
This is the best time to quit. My grandparents smoked cigs every day and it caused them actual health problems like COPD so they struggled to breathe or catch their breath. They had coughs that wouldn't go away. And they're really lucky they didn't get lung cancer. And it ruined grandmas voice. This shit is bad. You'd be better off smoking cigars on the weekend and using nicotine patches or something instead.
>>34551750Please don't start smoking, it a massive waste of money, any reasonable person will look down on you or pity you for it and it will massively damage your body. You are being manipulated by the massive and powerful tobacco industry using the most advanced skills of psychology.Look at how Edward Bernys managed to convince women to start smoking my branding cigarettes as feminist 'torches of freedom.' The same is happening to you. Resist this manipulation. And get friends that care about your health. This one clearly doesn't, he can't even take care of himself and will drag you down with him.
>>34553592>your friend dragging you down Oh shut it man, I was one of the last people in my teenage friend group to start smoking because I sort of knew I would get addicted to them and I never got peer pressured in to being "one of the smokers" Then one day my homie had a mojito flavored cigarette and I had to try it and now I've been smoking for half my life and am in perfect health with perfect lung function. >any person will pity youWhen I see a smoker I see a fellow life enjoyer. When I see most non smokers out on the street I see miserable people. And that's the way it is, smoking is fun.
>>34553621Smokers do not enjoy life. Drugs are a way of escaping life. You would not need drugs if you were fulfilled. I'm not some saint, I know the struggle of wanting to run away just like any other normal human, but smoking is really just a bad decicion. You are just numbing yourself and you are addicted. Also, it is not enough for your friends to not pressure you, they still were a bad influence on you. People are the average of whoever they surround themselves with. Just by smoking, your friends moved you to smoke. They are having personal troubles themselves and werr going through it, I'm not calling them bad people, but they were a bad influence on you.On health, you my not have any symptoms of the damage smoking is causing you but it is hurting you.In a few decades, you will regret this mistake when the results start showing. The first step to overcoming addiction is to admit the truth that you have a problem. Many people have managed to stop smoking, there is no shame in wanting to be stronger.
>>34553643I understand your reasoning and I appreciate the long thought out reply but ok I will compare cigarettes to sex. Before you had it, you don't feel like you constantly need it, but after you've had it you're like why would I live not having this everyday? That's not an addiction, that's a pleasurable thing worth repeating. Also if I ever get actual health problems from smoking I will quit them. I think having a family history of lung cancer puts you more at risk for developing it than actually smoking cigarettes daily. Also I think you'd be surprised to find how many top athletes are smokers. You don't want to be like Rob Reiner in the one South Park episode.
>>34553931>Also if I ever get actual health problems from smoking I will quit themDon't you see that it will be too late at that point? Its like having termites eating the pillars of your house and saying if something breaks, ill get pest control. At that point the damage will already be done. And having sex is a biological drive, it's instinct. On the other hand, if people want to enjoy life, there are many alternatives to choose from that cost less, dont hurt your body, dont get you physically addicted. Please remember that there's a bunch of filthy rich financial elites sitting on private islands or mega yachts, fucking models, not even sending you an invite and they are laughing at you. They get your money and sell you literal poison and the laugh at you at how stupid you are. They consider you cattle and prey.Tobacco companies are as scummy as religious sects or gambling companies or loan sharks or any other form of drug dealer. You send them money and support them so they can create more ad campaigns to get stressed insecure fourteen year olds to just try it out once. There are many nice things to do in life that are not nearly as harmful as cigarettes.Of course you can smoke and live to a hundred years, but you can also walk through a minefield and be just fine. But is the pleasure of a cigarette worth the massively increased risk of lung cancer/general degradation of your body and also the financial toll?If you count how much money you spend on tobacco in a month or a year, you can think about how many nice things you could have bought instead. And think of the very likely hospital bills that will await you in a few decades.Cigarettes can be nice, I'm sure you're not entirely lying to yourself, but they are not worth the price.A life without them is possible. Its just a pain to get there once you're hooked.I'm struggling with bad habits myself, I cant give a perfect solution but it's an important first step to name the beast and admit a problem.
>>34554178(me)Also, i wanna mention that even though I'm calling cigarettes dangerous, they are not a viable method to an hero. You will still get old, you will just be way more sickly and miserable compared to other old people. So if your mindset is to live short and burn bright or something like that, you're lying to yourself. It's like a woman that downs a bunch of tik tacs and a red bull and then calls it a suicide attempt.Cigarettes always have cool dramatic marketing but in reality they are just a replacement binkie.I've seen family members chainsmoking, they look way older compared to others, one got a bad cough and did get cancer, but they all still managed to get pretty old.Anyways, theres ways to quit smoking. It's not easy, but you can get that under control.Wishing you the best, don't beat yourself up over mistakes, you can't hate yourself into becoming a better person, I know that much.
Hey, OP here. I didn't expect this to turn into a debate over if you should smoke or not lol. I'm just gonna say I think smoking is fun and I'll probably do it as long as I'm young. I'll start worrying if I'm smoking a pack a day in 10 years.
>>34554262Dont do it you dumb dipshit faggot baby
>>34551750best time to stop. its just negatives, all of it. its expensive and mainly damaging to your health & teeth and you´ll smell bad. the positive relaxing effect it has diminishes over time and you basically need your fix to not be stressed out all the time, making it seem like the fix is actually a boost.>t. smoker>>34553592>Look at how Edward Bernys managed to convince women to start smoking my branding cigarettes as feminist 'torches of freedom.' The same is happening to you. Resist this manipulation. And get friends that care about your health. This one clearly doesn't, he can't even take care of himself and will drag you down with him.i doubt that most smokers fall for psychologic tricks. its like 90% peer pressure, a break at work and just highly addictive.
>>34554262i did just that and now i´m highly addicted to smokes. you do worry about drug use later, but not in the way you are thinking about it right now.its not rooted in your system as bad right now, stop now.
>>34553931>Manmade tobacco sticks are just like sexAre you retarded?
>>34554262>I'll start worrying laterLolol you're completely fucked
