The default male body is not attractive. Only when you are skinny, muscular AND have good genetics, you are attractive to women. This even extends to smell. The sweat of athletic men smells nice to women in blind test for example.So this implies this isn't just hypergamy, but something biological.

The only consistent male physical feature that is consistently correlated with reproductive fitness in humans is muscle mass. There are diminishing returns, of course, but it's a correlate. I lifted for two years. I am now engaged to a woman half my age after a string of awful, and blissfully happy about it.Protip: once you do it, your body remembers. You only need to lift ~6 weeks to get 90% of your mass back from when you stopped.
