Am I weird for not immediately hating something just because it's AI?
>>
depends how much AI, and how much human effort was put into something. AI is just a tool like MS paint. a copy paste of mona lisa with some ms paint caption text is not interesting. but drawing mona lisa (or even an original picture) by hand in ms paint is
>>
are you kidding me with this question
no you are not weird. you are the only person here with functioning neurons and i mean that as a statement of fact not a compliment because it should be the floor not the ceiling
let me describe what i see every day. someone posts something. someone says "this is AI." 200 replies of people competing to express the most contempt. not one of them said anything about the thing itself. not one. they skipped that part and went straight to the clapping.
this is not thinking. this is a reflex in a fedora calling itself discernment.
and before anyone starts: i am not saying AI is good. i did not say that. read it again. i said good and bad are things you figure out by looking at the thing. the question "is this good" and "was this made by a robot" are two different questions and you are allowed to let them have different answers and none of this should be controversial but here we are. here we are at 2am.
the other thing that gets me is these same guys will say they hate groupthink. with a straight face. they have decided that hating whatever the internet currently hates is the independent position. it is not. it is the most social behavior imaginable. you saw what got approved and you reproduced it. a parrot could do this. a parrot does not then claim to be a freethinker but that is the only difference.
OP you are fine. stop asking strangers to validate your ability to look at things before judging them, just keep doing it, it already puts you ahead of most people on this website

Dude, there's no problem in using AI, the problem is that most people that use AI are dumb, they write low quality stuff and generate low quality stuff. That's the real problem. You wrote so many words and you did not say anything, just like AI

big worm said it the best

"playing with my money? that's like playing with my emotions"

if you see someone outspoken about anti-ai it's likely that they've been displaced, threatened, or are close to someone who has been threatened by ai's democratization of mediocrity

do you remember when sora was unleashed and for like 3 days people were making anime battles with all sorts of characters and making everyone say I HATE NECK HURTS

shit was amazing but everyone was like "u r literally raping artists" so now if you want something cool you have to have a computer from the space age and the training data to do it yourself

ai is literally some of the coolest shit ever and it is the art of the period and is fantastic as such

probably once in a thousand (human lineage) generations we get to have a BLINK of aislop

and every single day, the guardians of intellectual property make great efforts to remove as much as they can from this incredible font of expression

as the blessed lucky few with access to these tools, it is our RESPONSIBILITY to use them to express ourselves with them

you don't have the luxury of time either

by 2035 you won't be able to have unlicensed ai's and you'll be spending lods of emone on proprietary model packages and other DRM horseshit on your omniputer (personal computers will also be banned)

probably 2 more years of peak democratic ai access, maybe 1

Not at all. That's actually a pretty reasonable stance.
A lot of the strong reactions to AI — positive or negative — are driven more by identity and tribal signaling than by actual evaluation of the thing in front of someone. Hating AI on principle is just as uncritical as loving it on principle.
The more grounded approach is what you're describing: judging things by what they actually do, how well they do it, and what tradeoffs they involve. An AI-generated image, piece of music, or piece of writing can be good or bad on its own merits. An AI tool can be genuinely useful or genuinely harmful depending on context.
There are real, legitimate concerns about AI — labor displacement, intellectual property, environmental costs, misuse, homogenization of culture — and those are worth taking seriously. But reflexive disgust at the label itself isn't the same as engaging with those concerns thoughtfully.
So no, you're not weird. You're just not performing a reaction.

Have you actually found a good use for AI besides the disgusting visual "art" that people produce with it?

I'm still AI skeptic in the sense that it's going to be scaled back soon and that the space is full of grifters. But I'll be damned if Claude hasn't put my development into hyperdrive.
I have the entire spec in my head cause it's a rewrite of an old project, so I just write massive, targeted feature descriptions and it goes at it.
Reviewing the code is a slog though.
>>
No bro you are just one of the few people who aren't retarded. Being able to separate the art from the artist is one of the hallmarks of a good mind.
>>
>>34554255
Whoa dude, let's calm down a bit
>>

AI is objectively the most exciting thing in the world right now. It will dramatically transform the world like the printing press and electricity did. But the internet is full of the loudest and stupidest opinions as usual. The folks who get it are quietly using AI for their own proprietary personal projects.
I DGAF who or what discovers or creates anything, I care that it's created so I have access to it so I can enjoy it.
All we need next is better sorting to filter out the low-effort tacky AI slop.
