I am in a BAD downward spiral.Everyday after work i come home and drink either 4-8 beers (half liters) or 1-1.5 bottles of wine along a pack of smokes.I did do dry january amd succeeded this year then again tried to give it up for lent but i failed. In the town where i live i have no friends or hobbies + im supposed to work on my masters thesis in my free time. When i go home every other weekend i also drink and smoke alot there but my mother realizes i might have a problem.Do you have some practical advice for me? Have you gone through this? How did you get out of it?
>>34557022A ANot for the quasi-religious stuff, but for the support of others who understand and don't judge.
>>34557022go cold turkey, but not for the weak willed. I have quitted weed after using daily for the last 15 years+ so I do understand addictions.and I also rarely drink now. I try to keep vices to the min, but again it's tough if you're not willing to change at all.
>>34557022Why do you drink?
>>34557083Alcohol addition is worse than Weed addiction.I cut out weed and didn't have much issue, but I've heard of people who go cold turkey off alcohol and they have medical problems, best solution is to ween yourself off of it
>>34557111>>34557122checking those digits, well usually most dudes are like I can quit weed whenever, it's not a problem and it's highly addictive and hard to quit. You need to have the will to change your situation, else you'll keep on as nothing ever changes. But yes, alcohol addiction is definitely tough and fucks your whole system up
>>34557022That’s a fine amount of drinking. Just handle your shit and stop obsessing over problems you don’t have.
I drank about that heavily for 10 years, and outpatient rehab is the only thing that helped me. I did PHP for 2 weeks followed by IOP for 4 weeks back in February, and haven't had the urge to drink since. If you have the time to spare, I highly recommend finding a good program. I've tried a lot of different AA groups and have come to hate them. A bunch of sad sacks whose lives still revolve around alcohol, only now it's about NOT drinking.
>>34557022Just in the very least have a program, list of goals, things you need to do before you drink. If you only have a wall to stare at and life ignore you. That's unbearable. I've cut back on my drinking but sometimes it comes back.
>>34557022if you have a bad drinking problem and want to get off it, you need to do so in a proper medical supervised environment. The withdrawal symptoms from alcohol can kill. It usually starts with the shakes, which can lead to seizures and blood pressure problems-which can kill you.

I was having about 3-4 12oz 8% abv almost daily. it was almost embarrassing buying white claws / trulys so often because I'm sure the clerks at the store knew why I was there as soon as I walked in. and I'm sure my neighbors noticed all the cans I was taking out on recycle days. part of it for me was the oral fixation and just wanting to drink something, so substitutes helped: kombucha, tea, diet soda/gatorade, NA beer, NA wine, etc. it was wrecking my fitness and part of my goal was to also lose weight and run more. initially I did weed instead, albeit much less frequently, but eventually stopped that too. I guess it helps to have something that you value where you can see improvement by not drinking so that becomes a motivator. for me it was running. currently 11 weeks dry
>>34557442if you actually believe this and aren't just shitposting, I really don't know what to tell you bro.and no I'm not some zoomer who thinks looking at a beer makes you an alky; I love beer and spirits but that much on the regular is doing long-term damage
>>34560704>it was almost embarrassing buying white claws / trulys so often because I'm sure the clerks at the store knew why I was there as soon as I walked in.iktf, when the only thing you buy at the store is booze and after a certain point you can tell that the clerks are thinking to themselves "this dude's got a problem"
>>34557022Giving up alcohol is both very simple and very complicated. On one level, all you have to do is simply not drink any more. The hard part actually isn't quitting: it's living your life sober. You have all kinds of problems in your life; alcohol stops you from realising how bad they are, and also stops you from doing anything to solve them. When you're sober you suddenly realise how empty and boring your life has become. The only way to stay sober is to fix your life: fill it with interesting things, fun activities, and pleasant people. Don't ever let yourself get bored or lonely. You also need to remove from your life EVERYTHING that you associate with alcohol in any way. Don't hang out with people who will offer you drinks; don't do activities you normally do while drinking; don't walk past bars if you can possibly avoid it; that kind of thing.
