I want to get started with 40k, but the figures are expensive and actually playing it is not possible for me since no one here (latin america) even knows what 40k is.Is it worth it for the arts-and-craft aspect alone?
>>34564109No it is a massive money sink whose only benefit is being able to meet and hang out with other nerds. Without that, there is literally no point unless you want to burn money on pussy-repelling totems.
>>34564109For arts and crafts, just do any other type of miniatures. Model airplanes, for example
>>34564109>Is it worth it for the arts-and-craft aspect alone? No, absolutely not. The quality of the models, the quality of the materials, and the quality of the hobbyist paints you're going are all far, far overpriced and fragile for what they are. modeling hobbyism was destroyed by chinesium after the end of the 1990s
>>34564109Just read the books its more fun anyways
If you feel like painting a figure, go paint one. You can get whatever and however many you want since you don't have to chase meta.>>34564300Equally junk. You trying to impress mom with mini planes? Only value is personal preference.
>excited to get into 40k>always liked guardsmen>watch a bunch of youtube painting tutorials>buy some starter kid>shocked to learn they were actually like 1" tallsure I get some models are "bigger" but like what the fuck. how tf do people paint these things. I'm waiting for 3D printers to advance a little bit more and am just going to 3d print shit to paint. Things I can actually see and not feel I need a magnifying glass to view.>>34564300yeah this too, I'm just gonna buy tank kits n stuff
>>34564733Idk, my wife likes building and painting the planes. They seem better quality to me
Just 3D print them
>>34564109What is 40k?
>>34564109>no one here (latin america) even knows what 40k isI'm from SA and I know what it is. I wouldn't play it though, takes too much of your own time, it's only worth it for NEETs and people that don't have the obligation to work like Henry Cavil. There's many other hobbies you can get into that are much more rewarding and you don't have to expend a single penny.
>>34565289>What is 40k?Warhammer 40k
I'm not sure about the figures themselves, but you being in LATAM means import is expensive and you have much lower income, so you'll probably feel it hitting the pocket. Chinese paints are good enough, so are brushes, you just have to research that on youtube to get the jist of what you need, which is the more complicated part.As a hobby, do what you want, not like anyone is going to see it or care. It is time consuming, though.
>>34565368>import is expensiveImporting is not expensive at all. The problem are the taxes their governments impose.
>>34565408Same outcome for OP
>>34565611>Same outcome for OPNot really. There are many ways to avoid paying these taxes in a way you will never get in trouble, because the government is very inefficient.
even if you're paying retail and not a penny more it's not worth the cost
>>34565309Oh. That explains everything.
