Need some /adv/ from ex boozers and alcoholics about giving up.
I just made the decision this week to quit boozing. I have never been an alchy, dependant on it but its been my main hobby for decades.
Want to quit because of health and just general better QoL.

What about the initial change of activity.
What did you do to substitute your time when you would be boozing?
Did you remove yourself from social situations, or friends where/who would make you crave to drink?

How long does it take for cravings to want to booze to go away? What timescale? Months, weeks etc.
Obviously (for me) its not a physical addiction like say giving up smoking, its a habitual...this time or this situation is when I would drink and desire it.

I only have 1 IRL friend and all we do when we see each other is drink and play vidya. idk if I should try to distance myself from him.
Not very friendly. I could probably stay sober while he drinks but that is not fun either.

Any info or advice would be appreciated.

Go to aa lol

Srs tho just do something else during that time. Drink a bunch of tea or something. Try other, better drugs and you realize alcohol is trash compared to basically all other substances

Clean your house, go for a long walk in the sketchy part of town, find a new hobby.........

I love boozing too and have been doing a lot of drinking lately, I feel like currently it improves my QoL though. I'm the same as you I don't really have an addictive personality or anything and definitely would never drink daily and become an actual alcoholic.
>What to replace it with
IDK OP, what do you enjoy doing besides boozing?
>remove myself from social situations
I knew a guy that still hung out at bars with his friends but would only drink like tea or soda.

I drank at least a six pack of beer a day for years, often more like drinking all day every day. Now been sober 1.5 years. Cravings are still there sometimes. At first I compensated with drinking soda and eating too much and gained weight. Then I had to totally redo my diet and went back to an average weight from obese. You just have to keep going, focus on fitness because boozing is anti-fitness. It is a physical addiction by the way you can say it isn't but it is. It is your coping for stress, boredom, social anxiety, whatever. You have to face your problems head on without it.

>drink a bunch of tea
good if unsweetened. I found a lot of the drunken feeling was just my stomach being full. I figured that out by drinking a 6 pack of zero alcohol beer

I have gone to a bar and drank diet coke or whatever but I wouldn't go to the same exact bar I got wasted at before
