I'm about to become the deputy head of a big government hospital's hr department. i have absolutely 0 experience in hr. all of my work will be hr related. I only have 2 years of exp as a software engineer. I dont even like talking to people. This is going to be my new job after a gap of 5 years. Any advice on how to survive this?

So how did you get that job without exp? Did you lie OP? If not, and they're aware of that you have 0 knowledge yet still hired you I wouldn't sweat to much

Good news, you’re already most of the way there. Just progress to hating people but exclude women and minorities and you’ll become a model HR enforcer

I didn't lie in my resume. I was recommended there by friends of my family. I'm more worried about looking like an idiot there.

I see, well you have nothing to worry about in my opinion, they saw your resume so they can't say they didn't know who they hired, in all of the jobs you learn when actually working them so chill. Take the opportunity of connections you have, deputy head of big hospital will look nice in resume. If you fuck up and they fire you it's no biggie you don't sound like someone who's fighting for survival, you will get another good job

Listen to the people around you and when you do say smart things, like, "I'll take that on board". If they say something and you don't understand, say "I'd like to look into that further, can you please send me an email about that?" (So you can google all that shit later).

I didn't know that. Thanks.
>you don't sound like someone who's fighting for survival

google "HR for Dummies" for a bunch of basic books you can read over a weekend.

"Deputy Head" is a flattering title for secretary and general assistant. You'll spend most of your time typing things up, filing things and running errands for the HR head.

Let the actual head teach you.

OP here, I was just informed that the head would be retiring in less than a week and I would be the one to take his place. Damn...
