I left uni a couple of weeks ago. I was doing a physics degree, and despite what you may think, a bachelor's in physics is a pretty useless degree unless you want to become a miserable balding teacher, so I dipped. Furthermore, I've tried looking for work; specifically I've tried getting into the trades (electrician), but no luck for any apprenticeships.

It's possibly because I don't have a driver's license. I'm still on my learner's permit, and it takes fucking forever to get one (like 50 hours of driving minimum recorded + 6 hours night driving, then you must pass your test), but I also need to get a safety card and an electrical license. Hell, I've looked for part-time employment, but again, no luck. I mean, I graduated highschool for crying out loud. Do I need a bachelor's to be a wagie cashier? I'm fresh out of highschool, but I haven't gotten much guidance in life; I always just kind of did what I was told to and that's it. So when it came time to do uni I realised I didn't really want to it, but now I'm having second thoughts.

Should I go back to university next year and do something else (I'm thinking maybe finance? Something that will be worth it and get me money) or should I try and make something else work? Have I fucked up my life this early into it? I'm a completely lost NEET rn and I really don't want to be.

I don't know, but I bombed a multiple exams halfway through my final semester because I was feeling so sick of everything. I had urges to pack up and leave, but decided to stay and like aggressively pursue my hobbies. I ended up passing and have an internship coming up and I haven't brought everyone's hate upon me. I feel stuck, but at least have some wiggle room. Anyway, based on my experiences, it seems better to stick with a guranteed plan of action while "min-maxxing" as much as possible. Eventually things will balance out in a way that's right for you.

do you know anyone with a car who'd be willing to let you practice driving? if you do spend as much as time as you can with it. i spent roughly 8 months to get a solid hand at driving before i got my license--it sucked but it paid off in the end.

as for trying to get a retail position i'd say keep looking--you should be able to land one with a high school diploma. it sucks because there is such a job shortage but sending more and more applications in is all you can do--like you said, plenty of college grads are only managing to land retail despite doing the full four years. you should be good with a diploma but just make yourself stick out

>do you know anyone with a car who'd be willing to let you practice driving?

Yeah, it's been my mother as of late. But it's quite infrequent. The good news is the transportation office gave me a log book and I have made progress (I think I've done about 7 hours total?), but I'm not getting anything in the trades at this rate.

>it sucks because there is such a job shortage

Yeah, but that's the thing though right. They keep saying "Oh we need workers", "Our staff just dipped, we're hiring!" but when I show up it turns out they'd prefer to hire Rajesh fresh off the boat from Mumbai who would be willing to be paid 2 cents and a button. I also worked at McDonald's as a line cook during my highschool days, so I have wagie experience, but I'm still completely unhirable because my government loves cheap labour more than its citizens. Doesn't matter anyway, they'll probably be replaced by self-service checkouts next year.

uk i assume? yeah your country's situation is fucking grim mate, i studied abroad there and it's the worst in europe. have you thought of bartending? the only reason i ask is cause so many of my friends over there did it and passed thru uni on it lol. you could make really good money doing that and it's not much of an investment in terms of qualifications. idk maybe not the most serious advice but a suggestion

No Australia, but we're in a pretty similar situation. We're under a labour government (The lefties) rn as well. In terms of immigration we are probably in a worse position than the uk. I think our foreign population was about 32% compared to their 20%? They only reason a fuss isn't made is because its usually high skilled Chinese workers instead of some rapist from Pakistan, but we get those as well of course. And we've also had a surge in low skill labour as well, so that's the big issue for me here. The crunch in the labour market is getting tighter and tighter for low skill and higher skilled workers, from the Indian and Chinese fronts respectively. I think the only real way to make money in Aus now is to get into mining and sell your soul to the Chinese, but then I'd have to go back to uni.

don't tell anyone you were at uni doing physics. they will think you are smart to be a wagie
