Self-taught animator here with about 9 years of experience. Between 2022 and 2023 I was getting a lot of traction: roughly 68 interviews across game and animation studios, including late-stage interviews with companies like Sony, Rockstar, Crystal Dynamics, Sledgehammer, and DICE.I briefly landed a role connected to Concord (for only 3 days, lol), but it was terminated shortly after launch when the game flopped. Since then, the last year and a half has been rough. I've had virtually zero interviews despite continuing to improve my portfolio and taking freelance work to stay afloat. The confusing part is that my work isn't getting negative feedback. I've had industry professionals compliment it, and some of my work has even been featured by major websites. Yet applications that used to get responses now seem to disappear into a void. For people currently working in animation or games: what would you do in my position? Is the industry simply that bad right now, or am I missing something in my job search strategy? Portfolio, networking, recruiters, outreach, specialization, relocation... I'm open to any serious advice.
>>34573321Game dev in training here, doing a bachelor in it. It's competitive. We all know it's competitive, we all know we're heading towards a very likely relocation, and potentially not working in the field itself for a couple years before we join the actual field if at all. I'd personally say, the world is your oyster when you're doing something like that. Stuff like game dev and animator isn't just something you can find locally unless you live in like a megacity. And even then I hear you're having difficulties. I'd open my horizons to relocation anywhere and go for work that is in line with my skillset and my passion. But that's just surface level advice for you, idk your situation and you've clearly tried so hard, I don't have even a fraction of your experience and lessons learned if you've truly been to 68 interviews. I think you know best, but on the surface - relocation is almost expected in my field
>>34573321>How to find a job as an animator? Can you create sprites for games? I would go that route
>>34574176>>34574183Lmao OP you have the attitude of a disgruntled piece of shit with anger issues, I hope you fall into one of those dump holes of liquid animal shit and choke on shit and die, as you deserve
>>34574176>>34574183Who the fuck are YOU you bitter cunt, ain't seen you provide any help whatsoever.
>>34574229>worked for ConcordYou should take your own advice and shut the fuck up. Working for that piece of shit game nuked your career. Go put the fries in the bag little man.
>>34574252Worked for Activision and Netherrealm. Can you shut the fuck up and give me my fries now ? With your attitude you'll never find a job anywhere.
>>34574267Yeah ok. Have fun being miserable.
You know, I actually expect someone who worked on concord to be this toxic. You've even exceeded my expectations with the whole, rape, kill yourself, cancer stuff. I am so happy that you're here posting on 4chan and being absolutely miserable, and seeing how much beautiful karma there is in this world. Sleep well tonight
It's the normie clientel
Keep doing stuff regularly and post it online. I assume you do 3d so go and model known characters and post it on websites to get numbers going.
