Since the blood is bright red, that indicates that it is an hemorrhage originated on the end of your digestive tract (since the blood wasn't digested by your intestines).
Usually the cause for this is either a wound in the anal or perianal region, or a popped blood vessel (a popped hemorrhoid).
In the case of a popped hemorrhoid, the cause is usually due to an excessive force when you poop, causing it to brake and the blood to leak.

If you have wiped with too much force, it may have caused some small lacerations, resulting in blood. Also, like I said, if you were constipated and ended up using too much abdominal force to poop. That puts more pressure on the hemorrhoids, and may cause them to burst.

Personally, I don't think it is diverticulitis based on your age alone, it's usually something that only shows up in your 50's and up. However, if you have other gastrointestinal symptoms, like nausea, abdominal pain, etc., and specially if you have a positive family history for it, it might be worth it to investigate further (usually through a colonoscopy).

Like I said, if it's causing you constant discomfort, I think it's best to seek a proper medical opinion on it just to be on the safe side of things.

you really dont want to leave something like this to chance. high chance its just something non life threatening like hemmeroids or a tear, but this is very much not the type of issue you want to brush under the rug, as if it is serious it could be fatal.

the hemmeroids exam is slightly embarassing but its been my experience that doctors are always consumate professionals, and didnt give me any grief during my exam, and the whole exam was over in 30 seconds. if they cant find the cause at the end of the digestive tract though they may opt for a colonoscopy, which is also not as bad as most people make it out to be. its about the equivalent of just one really bad night of mexican food, the whole thing is over and done with in 24 hours.
