How do you stop being an alcoholic?
Alcoholism is like mono.Once you contract alcoholism, you will have it for life. It can flare up in certain conditions, but you will have it for the rest of your life. You just now have to decide to only put yourself in situations that will not cause flare ups. It's entirely possible, and I believe in you anon, but of all vices and problems, this one can't be half assed. If you are addicted psychologically, you have to quit cold turkey. But if you're addicted physiologically, you need help and detox. Seek professional help.Best of luck. Today is the first day of the rest of your life.

>>34598531I drank at least 8 units of alcohol a day for years and stopped for a year and a half so far. Here's some of the key things that worked. Start a notebook or calendar of exactly how much alcohol you drank each day. You can also write the price if money is a motivating factor but I was drinking cheap high aav beer so I didn't. First try to reduce the numbers of drinks daily. Then try and see if you can skip a day of drinking entirely then you can X out that day on the calendar. Try to drink only 4 or 3 days in a week. Try to not drink 2 days in a row. I went for better and better streaks til whole months were knocked out. By the time I didn't need to even keep track because it was all zero It was beaten. It doesn't mean all problems were solved wither, I had to majorly change my diet up especially because at first I overcompensated eating for the calories of drinks I was missing. Good luck you have to want to do it yourself. One motivation I had was I got a car and just knew if I continued drinking 24/7 I would get a DWI so maybe if you sign up for something with risk it can motivate.
If I didn't make it clear too, you need to stop forever like never have another drink and keep that streak going to present one day at a time. One drink or one night indulging and you'll be right back where you started in no time. Also videos on youtube can help but make sure it's men talking about alcoholism, women don't have real problems.
