I will be moving out this September, but I am not all that sure as towhat I need to do and how.Oh, and I will be moving to another country on top of that Canada --> UK.> and no, I don't need a visa since I have British citizenship. My current plan was that I would save as much money as I could here (though it won't be much), and at the same time I would try tomake an online friend over there so that I could couch surf while I figure things out for a month or two ( I would give them as much money as I could for compensation).I haven't had much luck finding anyone though. I tried on /soc but most people on there seem reluctant on even being just IRL friends, let alone roommates. I could try looking on roommate websites, though I doubt I am what most people are looking for on there given what my initial financial situation would be.Any ideas as to what I should do? And please don't tell me to not move or anything like that. I can't stand living with my crazy family anymore.
>>34599962Where are you moving? Bigger cities are obviously and more expensive than smaller cities. You going to study there?
>>34599962Good luck. I’ve had nightmare situations living with random internet people but it toughens you up after a while. Vet your roommates thoroughly. Make damn sure you’re comfortable around them and they have a sense of civic duty. Not everyone has the ingrained belief that life should be as peaceful as possible for the people they share a bathroom with, even if it’s just because it makes their life easier. If you get the sense someone will create problems you have to get the fuck out asap because they will. I recommend not looking for friends but people who you think have better things to do than fuck with you. Ambitious workaholics are a god send. If you have over 100 iq your roommates should too. Make sure you have a job lined up and get some virtual tours of rooms before you move out. You don’t wanna be stuck on a stranger’s couch desperately needing to sign a lease. It’ll put you in a tough spot. I have a great roommate right now who’s Irish and he has a what’s app chat full of Irish people in the city so he has no trouble making friends and getting connections. I hear Irish people are tight knit that way but if you can find an equivalent it’ll help you out. Whatever you’re doing take your next steps seriously and cautiously because having only moved cross country without a plan I can tell you it’s no joke
>>34599981I was thinking around Leeds but really it just depends on where I canfind friends. Nope, just moving there.
>>34600004Where did you find your roommate? And is it possible to apply for jobs when I don't have anaddress yet? If it wasn't for that I would have started applying to places by now.
>>34600248You absolutely can get a job just tell them you’re planning to move. I got my room on one of those housing apps I think it was spare room. He got his listing on fb marketplace. Stay away from Craigslist and go for a room that’s at least a few hundred more expensive than the cheapest one.
>>34600263You think they would do that for a minimum wage job?I won't be able to afford much more then the bare minium but I willstill be vigilant
>>34600693Yeah at least in the us. Anyone who actually wants the job can usually get it. This reminds me of the plot of spirited away lol
